UMHoops has a message board!

Submitted by oriental andrew on

Not to drive traffic away from here (as if that's possible, amirite???), but the good folks at UMHoops have just set up a new message board/forum, which is open for business.  If you're looking for some dedicated basketball talk, would be worth taking a gander.

I'm not affiliated with UM Hoops at all, other than being a frequent visitor/reader and occasional commenter.

Mgoblog's mobile app kinda sucks(when compared to the full website). You can read the site and enter text. Can't vote. Can't insert photos/videos. I don't even like mobile optimized sites. Gimme the full HTML please, and don't make me search for the link.

Just a thought that has probably been thought of before, but wouldn't it be cool if MGoBlog acquires UMHoops?  Not that the basketball coverage here is bad by any means, but what an awesome combination it would be to have Dylan's full time dedication to the hoops team along with everything else here.

What's wrong with going to two sites for different information? Do we really need to further the Walmartization of America by extending it to Michigan sports blogs?

1) There is nothing wrong with going to two different sites for information.  2)  Do we really need to bring in the "Walmartization of America" to this discussion?  Yea I used "M&A" but I'm not asking Bryan and Co. to turn into Mike Duke and buy out (price out in Mr. Duke's case) all and any competitors.  My post was not trying to take anything away from either site, as they are far and away my favorite two Michigan sites to visit.  Hence why I thought, wow, wouldn't it be cool if they were combined, I could view it all here, and have one forum and board to discuss my favorite teams?

I'm sure there are others here who would agree, or at least welcome the combination.  Dylan's coverage of the hoops team has been amazing since way before this season, and we all know the goods about this site.

Obviously based on your upvoting people agree with you.  I stand by my opinion that it isn't hard to type in two separate URLs or click on two separate bookmarks to access the infromation currently.  What benefit do we receive, outside of the 2 second savings from only clicking one link?  Further, combining sites would pose jouranlistic issues.  Who's the boss, and who's responsible for editorial viewpoints?  The style of the writing?  The physical website itself?  Assuming based on size of current sites, Brian would swallow up MGoHoops.  If that's what happens, would Dylan have complete control over the direction of the site?

That sounds like something a recruiting service would do. Have a fusion cuisine of sites and writers. If that were to happen though, they'd run The Wolverine, GBW, W247 and Wolverine Nation out of business Free, better boards. The only thing they'd need would be recruiting vids and a prospect ranking system. Could hire MichiganHockeyNet and YostBuilt for hockey recruiting coverage too. We shall rule ze world!

It was before my time, but didn't that already happen once when MGoblog merged with Tim's old blog, and Tim and Paul (?) joined Brian as the MGoblog staff?

I don't have a problem going to two sources for information, but I think some type of joint venture would be very beneficial to both blogs.

EDIT: apparently it wasn't that much before my time, but here's the link to Tim's old blog Varsity Blue for those of you who weren't aware of some of the site's history.

but I find it to be too much "just the facts" without any editorial content.  I think the site could expand the way it covers Michigan basketball a little and be all the better for it.  I guess the message board may be headed in that direction.

Can my MGoBlog points transfer? Will this stop readers from posting here, everything that goes on at UMHoops. Will they still have Pick to Click? And will we ever find out who the winner was? Are Brian and Dylan brothers? So many questions.
