Softball: Michigan vs. Washington Open Thread
The girls beat Arizona State early this morning, and now they are taking on 11-seed Washington. The game is on ESPN (it started at 3:30pm). Win and advance, or lose and go home. The winner takes on 1-seed Oklahoma at 9:30 tonight.
FINAL SCORE: 4-1 Washington. Good season, girls!
Beat the Huskies!
Finally, we're the home team. Go Blue!
I'll rely on the blog and live stats to keep me posted. Go blue.
If Michigan were to beat Washington, they'd have to win two straight games against Oklahoma? Am I understanding this correctly?
That's what I was wondering...double elimination?
so the "if" game will be on Monday. The Finals would start on Tuesday then.
that it really helps things if you can win that first roud game... Why doesn't the WCWS re-seed the teams?
Yes but only one of them would be today due to Friday's cancelled games. Would be a tall order but you have to be in it to win it I guess.
lets get this!
Can the Tigers trade Avila for one of our softball players?
But the tigers would have to throw something else in to sweeten the deal...
As many updates as possible please!
Picked blue in my streak for the cash! Lets go!!
Scoreless thru 1. 2 out walk gets a player on for UM but an 0-2 flyout ends the inning.
Scoreless going into the Top 2 with Washington bringing the middle of their order. Pretty evenly matched so far.
gets a runner to 2nd but thats it. Still scoreless.
via error by SS. Nice hard hit tthough. E6
Lets go. Capitalize here! Thanks for the updates, very much needed
for Washington (Amy and Lauren) 2 outs
gets caught stealing. 3 outs
Scoreless thru 2. Lead off single for UM goes nowhere after 2 strikeouts and then the lead off batter gets thrown out on a steal to 2nd
Looks like ill be letting mgosoftball do the updating. Go blue!
Of Washington has to be a name of the year candidate
still scoreless. Its going to be a 1-run game. The team with the most errors will lose.
So Sara is pitching pretty well?
I haven't been paying 100% attention to the game, but from what I've seen she's probably been hitting the spots they want, and I believe she's throwing a fraction faster than she was last night as well.
Her job is almost certainly "keep it close enough that the top of our order can win" and she's definitely doing that.
and in the park.
and a few other small differences, I think Driesenga and MGB look alike, style wise. Driesenga has 2-3mph and a couple inches on her, though.
Keeps it down? Tough to get homers off?
They both have excellent drops, Driesenga's curve is better than MGB's changeup, though, and that probably amplifies the deeper in the arsenal you go (which is part of the reason Driesenga is pitching in OKC right now). Both get a lot of outs and let up few runs without a huge number of strikeouts, and from what I've seen they both show little/no emotion while pitching.
they work with her to display confidence, and to slow herself down, just from watching on tv.
I give her a hard time because of how little she ever shows. Her catcher thinks her face would look the same after a perfect game or a mery rule loss, and that's definitely not the way I'm programmed in competitive situations. Probably a good attribute for a pitcher, though.
leadoff runner on from a walk and gets advanced to 2nd but that is all. Sara is on fire.
Bottom 4?
Bottom 4, 0-0, 2 outs. Romero grounded out to third (looked like she beat the throw), and Blanchard flew out to center
right now solid defense on both sides
Bad call.
Tough call tho
Still scoreless going into the top o the 5th. Two fly outs that inning so it's good that we're getting the bat on the ball. Just keep plugging away and hopefully putting zeros up on the defensive end.
Let me get this straight, if we are to win this thing we have to win 3 games in 1 day? Jeez
That is why we love this game so much. With Haylie being out, it hurts a tad but not impossible.
So tomorrow's the championship series? Say if we win right here and best OU tonight, then we'd have to play OU again tomorrow followed by a 3 game series all in the same day? That's brutal.
the late game last night/early today is going to affect us for sure.
The "IF" game is tomorrow.
Oh, I get it. I misunderstood when the guy you replied to said we'd have to win 3 in one day. I wasn't counting the game against ASU as today eventhough it technically was.
The Championship Series is one game a day, so Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday (if necessary)
I just looked at the bracket and I cannot believe that they are using a dynamic bracket. I am not sure when they switched, but I much prefer a true "winners/loser" bracket for tournaments.
They really handicap any team that loses on the first day. It's a shame. Oh, well, gotta take care of business right now and figure the rest out when the time comes.
Keep chugging Drisenga!!
WOO! Run scored!
1-0 Michigan in the bottom of the fifth. Two on, two outs.
Michigan 1, Washington 0.
