Softball: Michigan vs. Washington Open Thread

Submitted by Balrog_of_Morgoth on

The girls beat Arizona State early this morning, and now they are taking on 11-seed Washington. The game is on ESPN (it started at 3:30pm). Win and advance, or lose and go home. The winner takes on 1-seed Oklahoma at 9:30 tonight.

FINAL SCORE: 4-1 Washington. Good season, girls!

If Michigan were to beat Washington, they'd have to win two straight games against Oklahoma? Am I understanding this correctly?

I haven't been paying 100% attention to the game, but from what I've seen she's probably been hitting the spots they want, and I believe she's throwing a fraction faster than she was last night as well.

Her job is almost certainly "keep it close enough that the top of our order can win" and she's definitely doing that.

They both have excellent drops, Driesenga's curve is better than MGB's changeup, though, and that probably amplifies the deeper in the arsenal you go (which is part of the reason Driesenga is pitching in OKC right now). Both get a lot of outs and let up few runs without a huge number of strikeouts, and from what I've seen they both show little/no emotion while pitching.

I give her a hard time because of how little she ever shows. Her catcher thinks her face would look the same after a perfect game or a mery rule loss, and that's definitely not the way I'm programmed in competitive situations. Probably a good attribute for a pitcher, though.

Still scoreless going into the top o the 5th. Two fly outs that inning so it's good that we're getting the bat on the ball. Just keep plugging away and hopefully putting zeros up on the defensive end.

So tomorrow's the championship series? Say if we win right here and best OU tonight, then we'd have to play OU again tomorrow followed by a 3 game series all in the same day? That's brutal.

I just looked at the bracket and I cannot believe that they are using a dynamic bracket. I am not sure when they switched, but I much prefer a true "winners/loser" bracket for tournaments.

They really handicap any team that loses on the first day. It's a shame. Oh, well, gotta take care of business right now and figure the rest out when the time comes.

Keep chugging Drisenga!!
