11W and the rest of the Buckeye faithful would be exploding in orgasmic descriptions of how perfectly Hand fits the program, not to mention how his butt is the right size for Urban Meyer.

It's like the entirety of Buckeyeland has decided to become the living embodiment of the fox and the grapes parable.

living embodiment of the fox and the grapes parable

First ... props for the Aesop's fable reference.  I'm trying to think if I've seen one before here on MGoBlog.  Maybe ... but I can't recall.

Second ... I can't see an Aesop's Fable and not think of "Fractured Fairy Tales" from the Bullwinkle TV show.

Third ... with respect to "not being a good fit" ... set aside for the moment their practice of dismissing as not a good fit players once they commit elsewhere.  What I wonder about is how a talented DE could not be a good fit ... anywhere.

Seriously.  Is there enough differentiation in the line play in the various defensive approaches where someone as athletic as Hand would really not be a good fit?  Pick your defense: 3-4, 4-3, 3-3-5 ... whatever.  Would someone of Hand's skill every truly and honestly be a poor fit in a defense?

I completely agree that all the "Hand is not a good fit" nonsense ultimately is just sour grapes, as you pointed-out above.  But if there is any merit to the "not a good fit" claim, it would probably have less to do with Hand's football talent and more to do with Hand's interest in attending a high-caliber academic institution and taking the education piece seriously.  That's probably not a good fit with guys who tweet about not wanting to "play school."

Not to brag, but I did reference it quite a while ago when I was trying to describe what "sour grapes" really means. Lots of folks don't use it in the proper context. Also, the Rocky and Bullwinkle show (along with all the others associated with it) is still my favorite cartoon of all time. I'd get up at 6am on Saturday mornings to watch it...as early as age 5. Classic.

Ohio fans think that some recruits believe Urban is too intense for them. When in reality it's most likely because C-Bus sucks, and Urban is a phony asshole.

in his comments:

"With Michigan, what you see if what you get. It's professional. With some, you feel like when you get to college it might, change, but with Michigan, everyone says they're straight.

We don't know he is talking about Urban and OSU, but I wouldn't be surprised.

I do find it really refreshing to hear how many top recruits are responding to Hoke's sincerity and honesty in the process.  I also find it encouraging, because if there is one thing that I don't get from Meyer, it is sincerity.  From what I have seen and heard, he comes off like a used-car-salesman - slick, blessed with the gift of gab, but always working an angle and putting on a show.  Sure, he is selling a pretty flashy used car, but you can't fake sincerity (by definition), and some recruits are starting to see through it.

of Peppers' recruitment, in that he has a couple schools he is considering, but slowly they fall away, a la Stanford and Penn State. If Foster really hasn't called him in a couple weeks, couldn't that be a sign of lack of "interest"? Obviously Hand is considered to be just about the best player overall in the country, so any lack of interest by a major program is more because they think they don't have a chance, or it's not worth their time recruiting someone who won't come.

I think it said that Hand hasn't talked to him not that Foster wasn't calling him. I'm pretty sure the coaches have restrictions on when and how often they can call recruits so this would indicate that Hand hasn't been calling Foster. Either way great news for the Wolverines.

Both programs are pulling top 5 type classes the past few years and I dont expect much to change.  Different kids will like different cultures and the "bottom line, all that matters is NFL kids" will probably view Urban similar to how Calipari is viewed at Kentucky.   I cannot wait until the Michigan pipeline to the NFL gets turned back to how it used to be before 2008 so we have that card going for us again too.

the delusion in this thread is delicious: http://www.elevenwarriors.com/forum/recruiting/2013/06/dashawn-hands-visit

some winning quotes:

"You kinda stole the words from my mouth. Some players want the laid back atmosphere and thing they can strive in that and others want to be pressured to get better. Some kids like to thing that there are no winner and losers and others are motivated by being a loser so they know they have to get better."

"I'm sure both TTUN and VTECH hinted to Da'Shawn Hand that he'll start if he commits there. Urbz obviously won't do that and he's not considering us.

I don't want kids like that here. "

and my personal fave:

"Hand wants to be given his spot. With urbs sense of competition he'd have to earn it and I don't think that sits well with him. Him n peppers seem like arrogant douches to me. Perfect for scum I guess."

That last post you referenced drew a lot more down votes than up votes. I hate OSU as much as any other Michigan fan, but having spent a considerable amount of time both at 11W and MGoBlog, I don't think their posters are any more biased or delusional than ours. Some are obvious blind homers, but a number of them are pretty open minded all things considered. If the shoe was on the other foot with OSU in the lead for Hand and Michigan having no shot, I'm sure we'd see some idiotic posts on this site as well.

I disagree with your last point, because we've seen such a situation before.  When a player is liking Ohio and not Michigan, I don't see so much rationalization like what we're seeing on 11W.  It's more questioning the staff's ability to recruit big time players, or wondering what players see in Ohio.  I can't think of a situation where posters have said we just cooled on him unless it was obvious (i.e. Yuri Wright).

But here are some facts: - I was born and raised in suburban Detroit - I grew up as a huge Michigan fan in the 80's watching Harbaugh, Morris, Jokish, Kolesar and crew - First game I ever attended in person was the 91 Desmond Howard game vs ND - I went to UM for undergrad from 94-98 (my senior year was the 97 NC season) - I've been to the Big House for games vs OSU in 95, 97, 99, 01, 05 and 11 - I forced my wife to take a bunch of pictures of me and our 3 month old baby yesterday wearing matching Worst State Ever shirts I go to 11W because it gets boring hearing the same side of the argument on Michigan blogs all the time. While I love Michigan and hate OSU, I do respect The Rivalry and enjoy having good conversation where I can find it with fans of the opposing team.

Does this sound like somebody on this board would say?

TDIBLE - Serious question for you.  Why would Meyer be any more concerned now than he was the last two years?  Michigan brought in Top 6-7 classes the last 2 years under Hoke and snagged some good talent out of Ohio along the way.  What's happening this year is largely consistent with what happened in 2012 and 2013.  In both prior years, OSU still finished with highly ranked classes.  So why should Meyer be any more worried now than he was 12-24 months ago?

That's a story as old as the rivalry itself.  Ohio fans have always taken intelligence for arrogance.  I would say the definition of arrogance is cheating for a decade and then offering to "penalize yourself" with a couple years probation.  Or how about suggesting that southern schools can't comment on the Big10 until they learn to read and write? (I would probably make that joke too anonymously on a message board but not in public when my coach is trying to base his recruiting in the South...)
