OT: Red Wings @ Blackhawks Game 7 Open Thread

Submitted by goblueram on

The top-seeded Blackhawks have battled back from a 3-1 series defecit to force a decisive game 7 in Chicago.  This has been a great back-and-forth series, and is a fitting way to end the in-conference rivalry between these two great Original Six franchises.

Zetterberg and Datsyuk have come up huge when it has mattered most for the Wings, both this season and in years past.  Jimmy has been phenomenal in net this year, and he may have what it takes to steal this game in Quick-like fashion.  Toews seems to have found his game a little bit in the last few games (when he is not whining), and Crawford has been solid in net despite 1 bad goal.  This should be a nerve-racking affair.

8:00 p.m. ET - NBCSN, CBC

I'm heading off to the United Center shortly, and I'm hoping it will get quiet in there real quickly.

I've said it before, but I really hope the Red Wings come out agressive and improve their passing! Sharp, precise, deadly passing...stop doing this half-assed passing i've seen go on for several minutes a period.

Go Wings!

Red Wings must actually HUSTLE for everything. They were outskated for a majority of the last two games. They need to show they actually want to move on.

I agree. The Red Wings act very nonchalant at times and don't seem to skate with the effort the Black Hawks are showing. The other thing that bothers me is the lack of speed on this team. But maybe it's more lack of effort. Either way the Wings look like they can't get away from anyone and can't catch anyone.

If you had said before the series, the Wings are going to push it to seven games, I would have said, "Hell, yes!"  After making the playoffs was in doubt, any bit of postseason success has been pretty much all gravy.  Disappointing that they blew a 3-1 lead, but Chicago's a good team, and Detroit has to overcome its flawed defense.

But win, and all is forgiven.  The Wings are 1-2 in game 7s after being up 3-1, so it's time to even it up.  Playing good defense isn't enough; Datsyuk and Zetterberg need to show up on the scoreboard.  Filppula and Franzen, too.  Can't just rely on our 3rd line anymore.

I'm on overnight shift and the hospital I work at somehow doesn't get NBCSports or CBC. I am hoping to not have to suddenly come down with an "illness". Anyone know of a good stream or three?

This game all rests on Jimmy Howard. Our defense has been letting the same chances happen the entire series and some games Howard will give up a bad rebound and others he will have the puck covered. Crawford has been playing better the past few games and it shows, but we now know what Howard is capable of against a powerful offensive team. Let's hope game 2,3,4 Howard shows up.

This is hardly all on Howard. Nearly all of the goals Chicago has scored he's had no chance on. He's had maybe 2 weak goals this series with on of them being a penalty shot he just wasn't focused for. We need to stop the turnovers and get the pick out of our zone when we have the chance. If we do that we win, if the hawks manage to hold in poor clearing attempts we will loose
