Those who have served in the armed forces so that I can observe my freedoms, I just want to say thank you for everything. You are the true heroes. Enjoy this day.
I would like to hitch my wagon onto these sentiments as well. And to everyone in the us enjoy your day off work.
Thank you to all those who have served our country in the past, to those that currently serve and to those that will serve in the future.
On a side note (not meaning to criticize the OP), is it appropriate to say "happy" memorial day? Seems like it should be something more measured.
It's happy that we are still here isn't it?
I think it would be an insult to my grandfather and others who fought for this country if we were to spend the day sorrowfully...
just my take.

We always do the normal Memorial Day thing (beer, barbecue, swimming pool) but we include the families of some of my friends who never made it back. It's a very joyous occasion with a lot of laughing and a lot of fond memories are shared.
to things like "Happy Easter" and such, where the underlying event is solemn and respectful of the departed. But, English being such a relatively limited language, not sure what the alternative is. At least nobody says "Happy Pearl Harbor Day!" or "Happy 9/11!" yet. Yet. Matter of time til "Macy's Big 9/11 Sale!"
Kinda wish department stores didn't just turn it into another day for a big sale, but hey, it's a free country... mostly because of the people we're supposed to be remembering.
As a veteran I do appreciate the thanks of everyone who offers them. But let's also keep in mind that today is a day specifically for those who've died. Remember them first.
I don't know why, but so many have forgotten that, which is ironic given that the name of the day is "Memorial".
EDIT: reply to Wahoo FAIL
And thanks to all of my fellow brother and sisters from our (USAF) sister services especially the ones that paid the ultimate sacrifice. I love you all. Ive been away from home for 3 months so far with another 5 months left on this current deployment. Enjoy the day while remembering that its not just another day off.
Thank you for your service.
and my son was born at 1:14 this morning. Semper Fi and Go Blue.
Congrats
waiting on the hello post
Awesome!
Best of luck to you and your family!
congrats to you and thanks to all, past and present, that served our country and gave all.

May we all respect, may we all remember those who paved our road.
Thank you to all veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of this nation.
If it has not been said, I will save the time of the person who wants to say it, which will spare the lameness for said person:
"Whadya drink'?"
From Fallujah, to Kuwait. From the jungles of Vietnam to the hills of Korea. From Normandy and the Argonne, to Gettysburg and Bunker Hill. God bless those who gave all, so that we would have so much.
Never forgotten.
Thank you to all who serve and the families to those have lost loved ones.
My favorite quote from Band of Brothers. "
I like that one, too.
We should also remember the families of those who have served this nation, and honor them for how deeply personal their sacrifice must be.
both serving and who have served, God bless you and thank you!

Greeting from a frequent MGoBlog reader and current U.S. Marine deployed to the Middle East. I wish I could be spending this memorial day in the states instead of watching Jabrill Peppers commit on a non-working ESPNU link (or a Nebraska/Oregon softball game nobody cares about) and not eating boiled hot dogs at the chow hall!
in the desert. many unfriendlies around.
Both grandfathers were WW2 vets. My fathers father US Army who operated in the pacific, a life long tiger and Umich fan. Always had a tigers hat on, never missed a game on the radio. Never missed a Michigan game on TV. I owe my fandom to sitting in his chair enjoying those moments. My love for silver dollar pancakes and hot sausage gravy i owe to my Mothers father who was a cook on a destroyer. Miss them both everyday.
To those who have served, past and present, thank you for your service.
I saw several older veterans this morning wearing hats that identify the war in which they served. I thanked each and every one of them. To a man, they thanked me for recognizing their sacrifice, and it doesn't have to be only Memorial Day that we show them our gratitude.
I would also like to add my own thank you to all of the servicemen and servicewomen who have given their lives defending ours as well as defending our freedom, and a thank you to those curently (and formerly) serving here and abroad.
Why should I care about a bunch of dead guys?
Because they sacrificed the best years of their lives so that I could live the best years of mine.
Appropriate that we remember those who died on this blog, since neither this blog nor anything that it discusses would exist in their current form without the freedoms afforded us by those who offered and sometimes lost their lives.
Thanks to all those who have served. My grandfather was a Michigan alum and served in the Korean War. He was the reason I chose to go to Michigan.
Thanks to all who have served our country in the armed forces. Personally, I remember my Dad who served in the Pacific in WWII and my oldest brother, who served in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam era and also in the first Gulf War. Love both of you.
For all of those that served and paid the ultimate sacrifice for this Nation! For those of us that made it home to our families, there is never a day that passes that I don't think about those men and women that didn't get this opportunity to do the same. Thank you to the OP for the post! I was put off by the post on Friday talking about how many fucking days off they have this weekend. I stopped reading after the first 30-40 posts because not one person mentioned why they have that extra day off. It's a time celebrate and mourn and to never forget.
Thank you to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and to their families. Thank you to everyone who has served in the Armed Forces and their families.
May there be a day where war is a distant memory.
I'd like to give a big thank you to the members of this board for their support of the vets and those currently serving. I'd just like to say lets not forgets those who can't enjoy the drinks and the bbq's because they paid the ultimate price. I've lost many friends during my 14 years of service. Today is their day. I raise my glass to the fallen. May we never forget.
