A Threet positive

Submitted by Asquaredroot on

A positive about Threet's game that I haven't yet seen mentioned is his vision and awareness in the pocket. He seems to be demonstrating an ability that few quarterbacks have, which is to make minor movements behind the line of scrimmage that buy him the extra time he needs to heave a missile of random accuracy or pull it down and run for his life.

I can't vouch for his ability to find the open receiver, but sometimes it seems like he's got eyes in the back of his helmet. Maybe he's part bat and uses sonar, I don't know, but we wouldn't have won the Wisconsin game without this ability of his.

So take heart! All we need is for him to learn how to throw within a couple of weeks and develop some decent run blocking skills with the o-line and we'll have an offense that is mostly functional.

Can anyone confirm whether the LB who chased down Threet on his 58-yard stampede was indeed the same guy who was recently cited for drinking and driving on a moped? If so, endless photoshop possibilities there.

The thing I like about Threet is how seemingly relaxed he is in the pocket.  Remember how Navarre reacted when the pocket began collapsing?

I'll take Threet anyday.

but, we haven't givevn up a sack this season right? i've noticed the same thing that you are talking about! even when the pressure is coming from his blind side, he seemed like he knew exactly when he was going to get hit and accordingly took off/threw... crazy sonar skillz..

Err... Not sure where I got that idea from. But, just from watching the games, I couldn't recall a play where Threet stood in the pocket and got plastered. I went back and looked at the UFRs from Notre Dame (TENUTABLITZ!!!!!) and Miami (NTM) games, and we did not give up a sack in either of those games. Anyway, Threet Sonar/MaxProt/(Dare I say it)OL, we're certainly not threatening ND's season sack record.

that Threet will be GOOD. Now, after next year, he will probably be used situationally, which sucks. He's had 4 starts in Div-1 football. He's doing well. I see a bunch of positives. The negatives, I believe, are from him trying too hard, not lack off skill.

Not all of the ball touches are guys are getting are quality, unfortunately.  Sometimes other guys try to get their hands on those balls in a violent nature, and our guys can't keep control of their quality ball touches, some times even giving up their chance at touching that ball in a quality way to other GUYS!!!  Too many men, not enough quality ball touches.  Such is life.

I am currently making a highlight reel for Threet's runs. I am in need of more runs for the reel. Laugh, he may wind up the leading rusher. The guy, given forward progress can fall forwards for almost 5 yards.

When Threet's in the pocket, it's almost always going to be a quality ball touch.  He's not taking a lot of bruising sacks; such being the antithesis to a quality ball touch.  When Threet sees a bruising sack coming, he's out of that pocket and fast.  The kid knows what he's doing.
