Rutgers embroiled in another athletics scandal
Rutgers is a mess. The AD they hired to replace the one responsible in the Mike Rice fiasco is now in the midst of her own scandal from skeletons in her closet. Combine this with the embarrassment of news that new head basketball coach Eddie Jordan never really graduated from Rutgers and you have what looks like a completely incompetent athletic dept. Good job Big Ten.

For every one claiming this is irrelevant because it happened decades ago you are missing the point. She is lying about it NOW.
No one forgets a lawsuit (much less one that cost your university $150,000).
No one forgets an angry team letter (much less one that accuses you of wrong doing and which cost you your job).
No forgets they were at a wedding (much less one where you were a bridesmaid and caught the bouquet).
If she lied to the press and the public (which is proven she did) it only stands that she probably lied to the Rutgers administration when they interviewed her.
Bottom line is the AD is a lier NOW and should resign immediately.
This story isn't going away. The denial (or "I don't recall") of the wedding video, and of even being at the wedding, are mind blowing. Honestly, I can't imagine forgetting a wedding that I was in 18 years ago. I lived with two friends in Ann Arbor for four years, about 20 years ago, and was part of both their weddings. You don't forget something like that.
Further, to minimize what happened at Tennessee, and not to recall, seems very convenient. For that many of her former players to go on the record about her behavior, speaks loudly to me about what she was really like.
I guess for me, the thing that galls is the total lack of any kind of kind of remorse. I don't see any sense of her ever saying, "I made failures in judgement, both in decisions with my coaching staff, and in how I worked with the athletes on my team."
This also appears to bother most of her former players at Tennessee. If she had simply apologized to them, the matter would probably have been long forgotten. They have the feeling that she has not been held responsible for her abusive coaching behavior. I have to agree. Part of learning from a mistake and moving on is taking ownership for your mistake. I don't see that having happened.
In the end, I don't know what will happen, but I hope she isn't released this week, or anytime soon. The longer this festers the better (for Michigan.) She will eventually be forced out. As far as I'm concerned, the longer this takes the better, because of the damage it will cause Rutgers.
Each and every one of you are being the hugest spoiled brats about this all. You're acting like a little boy who is jealous because his mommy is abiut to have another kid and you don't want that because "this is your house". Rutgers is joing us, and that is just how it is. Now get over it and support them and let's try to make this a positive thing going forward and help them fit in, you fucking pricks.

They want to "step up" into a Big-Boy conference? Better have your ducks in order. They obviously aren't prepared to handle a real athletic conference and they've bungled each and every step along the way. Now if you want to just let the new member call the shots, hire liars, recruit cheating "student"-athletes, let coaches abuse players, and generally be a God-awful, joke of a university in (North / Central / South?) New Jersey, then maybe Rutgers should get its shit together so it isn't even easier to mock.
I really don't care what happens to Rutgers & their AD. The reality is that it doesn't matter that much, to either me or to Michigan. You know, I don't take great pleasure in other's downfall, and I'll agree with your criticism that it is whiny and like a spoiled brat.
Having said that, apart from Rutgers, I think their AD is in denial, and hasn't taken ownership for her own past abusive behavior. I feel sorry for her, but seriously doubt her competency for the position. I don't wish her ill: I just want to hear her say, "I was dishonest with myself and others. I was abusive of my players, and no one should be treated that way." I'm not holding my breathe, and she doesn't owe me an apology. Her former players? That's a different question.
Regarding grammar police, write and spell the way you see best fit. No skin off my back. I'll just say, your arguments and positions will tend to be considered more fully when you write, spell, and articulate well. (If I am going to be a grammar Nazi, it would typically be to tweak someone who rarely if ever makes a grammar mistake.)

Adding Rutgers was a horrible, horrible HORRIBLE idea even before they showed themselves to be the keystone cops of Athletic Departments. Now it is beginning to look like the most ridiculously bad move in history. At this point, would the MAC even take Rutgers?

That is what makes this even more mind-boggling - Herrmann was a late addition to the pool and was not on the list of 47 potential candidates recommended by the firm they hired. If Rutgers was looking for someone who will have the credibility in the university community to change the outlook of Rutgers athletics in the wake of the Rice / Pernetti mess, this was about as big of a swing and miss as they could make.
It seems to me that Rutgers could have done much towards beginning to make amends if it had been a thorough search and an enlightened hire, but now they create a public relations nightmare if they defend her even for a little while as well as if they let her go - either way, it looks like they didn't absorb the most important lessons of the previous debacle at all.
I like that each coach stuck to their gender's stereotype... makes it easy to remember. Tice just threw basketballs at players and called them fags... a little physical and a little sexual humiliation. Of course the girl goes in with more subtle, biting attacks that actually might hit closer to home... slut, whore, alcoholic... things college girls worry about. Just a real interesting comparison between the differences of male/female abuse. Thanks Rutgers, this evidence will certainly serve as important evidence for gender studies departments across the Big Ten!
Is the ink dry on the Big Ten contract? Any way to get out of it? I wasn't really sure what they brought to the party in the first place, aside from some east coast viewership, but with the athletic department in disarray, we probably won't even get that.
Sometimes, keep it real isn't the best thing to do
It is amazing how incompetent this athletic department has shown themselves to be over the past 6 months. I was pissed they were being added to the Big Ten before all of this. The Big Ten and all of the member institutions will be laughed at for bringing Rutgers in to the conference. I do not appreciate the negative publicity this will bring to the conference and the lack of national or even regional significance Rutgers brings to athletics. Terrible decision by the Big 10.
Rutgers will need to clean house with it's selection committees, etc.
I mean, how else do you rebuild confidence of the NCAA, the BIG10 and their alumni.
