Punches thrown by Michigan players?

Submitted by adamsojo on

Weis actually made some serious allegations about Michigan players punching ND players in the face during the game. Has anyone who has re-watched the game seen if this is true?

Throwing punches at opposing players would certainly be a mark of a team without family values.

Cissoko actually hit Floyd in the helmet when he got his cheap shot in. This is what he is referring to I believe.

Weis said blow to the head I thought? Not punch but someone else probably will confirm that.

I am very quickly losing respect for this UM defense.

I didn't even think my opinion of Cissoko could get any lower but it sure is nice to see him make another appearance in the cheap shot reel.

You can even see him glance over at the referee to make sure he isn't looking, as he goes to give his own jab on the lineman. Absolutely incredible.

It was a shove of the face mask, which probably warranted a penalty, but given the level of chippiness that had gone on all day, I think it was a good no call.

I saw a lot of stuff by ND during that game that was not called (unnecessary roughness, holding, mugging, grabbing, pinching, etc...). That stuff happens... A lot of times retaleation won't be called if the Ref knows both have a part in it (unless it's really bad). Weis is just getting his pudding out.

When I played DIII ball people were always doing stuff. I have had more bod hair pulled out during one game my Jr. year than I had when I had my back waxed last year...

Weis is trying everything he can to deflect heat.

have pinpointed another instance, where Mouton punched a lineman after getting pancaked. The poster said it happened between 7:00 and 9:00 in the second quarter.

He landed the punch under the lineman's facemask. It was a retaliation for the lineman blocking him on the ground after the whistle. Maybe could have been a call on the lineman, but definitely should have been a call on Mouton. Can't retaliate and definitely not with a punch. We dodged a bullet on that one.

You lost, move on and prepare for Sparty before you get caught with another loss. Weis' God complex that he does nothing wrong is annoying and if his boy Tenuta had a defense that didn't allow 38 points maybe they could stop whining.

Weis has a history of accusing players of throwing punches. Recall the 2006 MSU-ND game in the rain in which he said an MSU player punched him on the sidelines when the replay clearly showed Weis was nowhere near the accused player.

I think our family values fighting. Without the fight, we probably would be discussing the loss to Notre Dame. Boo definitely went a bit too far with that 'shove' to the face; it was right in front of the ref so maybe the Domer-was it Tate?-was yapping his trap and the ref overheard? It was a chippy contest, those things happen.

boils down to the fact that you can probably find a penalty on every down in college football. Division 1A or whatever the new name for it is (BCS division?), has premium athletes that play at high speeds. It is hard not to find a hold on most downs. Basically what I am saying is that penalties happen all the time and if the refs called them all, the game would take 9 hrs to complete. Refs are also human and sometimes they miss a call. That is life. We all have to deal with that. We used to have to deal with it even more before instant replay. Life goes on. GO Blue!

Not trying to be a grammar nazi here but D1 is now FBS (Football Bowl Series) and what used to be D2 is now FCS (Football Championship Series). Realy not a big deal but I made the dreadful mistake of using the D1 and D2 labels and got hammered with a few negs and a very rude reply about how terrible of a person I must be to have used such an outdated label. I hope this comes off to you as informative and not rude. I hope you have a nice day

"Not trying to be a grammar nazi here but D1 is now FBS (Football Bowl Series) and what used to be D2 is now FCS (Football Championship Series)."

Not trying to be any kind of Nazi, but...

Division I is split into 2 subdivisions for football only. One is called Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), the other is called Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). FBS used to be called Division I-A. FCS used to be called Division I-AA. FBS and FCS are collectively called Division I.

Division II ("D2") still exists, and is still called Division II.

Sorry for the off-topic post, but I feel the need to act whenever I discover that somebody is wrong on the internet.

Yeah - the only instance I can think of is Cissoko giving Floyd a blow to the facemask when he was getting back up. It was a stupid thing for him to do, and he shouldn't have done it. I don't think this was rampant behavior, though.

Omg, get over it. Football players get frustrated and, lo and behold, shove each other after the play is dead.

There is a difference between shoving after the play, even if it's not cool, and yelling to the student section to "shut the fuck up, you faggots." I feel dirty for even saying that. I wonder what Weis would have to say. Check that, I don't really care.

Edit: This is in response to nobody specific, just the general whining by Weis et al.

This allegation, and the whining has made me hate Weis...and I didnt hate him before the game. He is such a dick.

Because of this....Im almost rooting for Sparty this week... and that is tough to do for sure.

same reality as rosendouche. he said "punches" plural and made it sound like there were many instances when I'm sure the only thing is the facemask push that could be argued was a continuation of the play and the player was off balance (not really).

I thought Denard was hit late when he ran out of bounds near the goal line. I'm sure you could find cases on both sides, but Charlie's ego is so large he refuses to take any blame for the loss.

Ignoring anything Weis, Rodriguez, or any official says about the tacky behavior that probably characterized both sides, I think people need to remember that this is a rivalry and obviously during the course of a game in which so much emotion is involved, things get heated. Each side got their fair share of no-calls and I'm sure if WE had lost, there would have been plenty of things to point at in terms of where we were treated "unfairly" as well.

I still think it's extremely important for our players to be classy, because this is Michigan, but those Irish fans that are calling us classless need to realize that Michigan didn't treat them all that badly. Besides good natured trash talk, I saw no serious harassment on game day, and ND/M fans kind of just enjoyed the day.

A few shoves at facemasks is really nothing, but it's a sensitive topic when you lose the game by 4 points in the waning seconds.
