Why would he not use Rivals and Scout?  The scouting services render a lot of "legwork" redundant by sharing a lot of information from those who have already done it.  If I were in his shoes, I would never use either as a final authority, but to give me a great idea of where to start doing my own due diligence.

I'm sure there are many coaches who use Rivals, Scout, 247, etc. as one of their tools to evaluate. It's not the worst idea.

Also, he may have been joking.
