Didn't have a problem with the call but should have probably only been a 2 min minor. 5 and game is a bit much...
Because the ref that was 3 feet away didnt call the penalty...
But the national folks are saying he didn't call it because "he was so stunned" by how vicious it was that he was rendered him temporarily incapable of reaction.
The national folks are idiots.
head was not the initial point of conduct. And we are fucking upset because it wasn't being called penalty initially, and than all of sudden because Anaheim reacted to it it becomes a five minute major, fucking bullshit.
Because Shea Weber slammed Zetterberg's head into the boards and got NOTHING. Evgeni Malkin instigator penalty in the '09 finals, mandatory suspension gets waived (still not over that and never will be). Now the NHL will show how they "mean business."
Those were years ago. Yes, the wings get jobbed a lot. The boot was over the top and if anything else results that will be unwarranted as well. I'm not familiar enough to state an opinion regarding 2 vs 5 minute, but I think that's a penalty, especially now. If you want to bitch about inconsistencies, fine, I am with everyone there. The camera angle that was head on with the guy who got hit too me was the best one showing the points of impact.
Yeah same here, maybe he wasn't "targeting" the head, but it was a blindside hit up high and he left his feet. That's gonna get called most of the time
his feet were on the ice and he slowed down before the hit.
This. It's called a DVR. Use it before you say something dumb.
There's no real great angle that I have, but to me it looks like right as he makes contact, his feet are in the air. I dunno if it deserved the game misconduct, but I don't think it's as clean a hit as some people are saying.
And if (when?) the NHL suspends him, that will be bush league considering what other teams have gotten away with, especially against the Red Wings
get new glasses. I am personal friend of tghe Abdelkader family. He left his feet when he hit. That is textbook charging to anyone with a brain. Going high did not help Abs case. It deserved 5 minutes.
edit: how the fuck is this trolling. Get some perspective people.
No. He didn't. If you watch it frame by frame, he is not in the air with both feet when contact is made.
How you can come to that conclusion is beyond me
Agreeing with you
Because:
1) He didn't leave his feet until after contact was made.
2) Initial contact was to the shoulder.
3) It was only to the head because the player he hit lowered his head.
4) They didn't call it initially, but rather used the TV timeout to talk about it together (after quite a bit of whining by Boohoodreau, I'm certain).
that was a pretty solid kill (almost kill). Ducks didn't really have a good chance aside from that
Can't believe we had so many odd man rushes despite being shorthanded.
except for the first 18 seconds, that was awesome
I do love any chance to see the stache on Bill McCreary. Classic!
thanks for adding to the crappy rep we wings fans currently enjoy. You are making us look like black helicopter Penn State fans.
FSD replay shows Abdelkader stopped striding before the hit, so charging is wrong.
The national NBCSN people are saying at least a two-game suspension.
I don't even know if that's really a penalty and it might get turned into a 5 min major / game misconduct / 2 game suspension? Holy crap. Where did that come from?
This kind of bullshit is exactly why the NHL will always be a distant fourth in popularity. Incompetent refs don't do anything to stop the bullshit thug tactics of teams like the ducks, and an aggressive, hard but clean check gets a game misconduct. I wouldn't put it past the fucktards in charge to suspend abdelkater for another game.
You mean the same idiots that decided not to call a blatant over the glass penalty at the end of regulation against the Capitals? No way...
Fuck Bettman.
A two and 10 yes a game misconduct NO
Disagree completely. That was not a penalty.
see it. I still don't see it as a 5 min major or worthy of kicking out Abdelkader
Followthrough makes it look bad, but it's the wrong angle for seeing whether it's head contact - another angle showed body.
Exactly. When they show the angle that looks straight at the end line it's absolutely clear that initial contact was to the body (front of left shoulder) and then carried through to the head.
Didn't target the head. But definitely left his feet. Not sure it's a major, but definitely a penalty
On his feet until contact and initial contact was to the shoulder. Terrible.
Not saying it justifies a major and game misconduct, but Abdelkader should have kept control of his body through the hit, that's why he ended up in the box. I do agree it shouldn't have been a penalty, and charging was quite obviously the wrong call since he didn't meet either criteria.
shoulder to shoulder. watch the duck's head. if that was hit by the shoulder hit would've snapped back alot worse, and he would be knocked out. bad call.
15 years ago that makes the NHL's season ending best hits video. Total crap.
2 years ago would have been clean. Now its a 5 minute major and game misconduct? Hockey has changed so much in the last 10 years i can barely recognize it anymore.
No kidding... Wings/ Avs that's an average hit!
Hearing Valteri's name reminded me that I heard his name pronounced 'Fil-pu-lu' on sportcenter the other day. That was a first which is impressive considering that his name is butchered constantly
might've been a penalty anyway, but running in place sure helped the cause
Seems like we can't do anything 5 on 4
come on man
GODAMMIT, SHG for them.
didn't think the powerplay could get any worse... ouch
Wow. Game fucking over
Well at least we can say the Abdelkader penalty wasn't a game-change
...in hockey. Gotta stay positive
