If you have a point to make, trublue616, then "dumbass" and "tool" are not really the best way to communicate that point. We're better than gratuitous name calling around here. Points return in a month.

Yeah, except Nebraska is actually UNL, not NU.  Calling them NU is like calling Michigan "MU".  Their website is even www.unl.edu.

Northwestern University, on the other hand, is actually NU.  It's even a (very basic) cheer in the student section (Go U, N-U).

It's certainly true that people know what you mean when you say or write "NW", but it seems to me like people should respect what others want to be called.  It's like someone named Andrew wanting to be called Andy and you just pat them on the head and say, "that's nice" and then keep calling them Andrew.

In the ccha it was uno as well. Not nuo. I'm surprised they say it, what seems to me, backwards. Most universities are either U of (State) or (State) State U. Directional or modified like e.g. central or southern use Modifier State U, named or area (other than state reference) use Name University.

Basically I'm saying Nebraska University at Lincoln sounds odd. It should be University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Or just University of Nebraska if it is the main campus.

Yes, Nebraska is UNL, but for sports it is often abbreviated as "NU."  Don't know exactly why this is, but it's a weird Big 12 naming convention:

Univ. of Kansas - KU

Univ. of Colordao - CU

Univ. of Oklahoma - OU

Best of luck to you, Doles. Would have loved to have you, but with the abundance of talent Michigan has got coming in on the O-Line, you've probably got a much better shot of getting playing time at Northwestern.

Actually, Minnesota people refer to the Univ. of Minnesota as "the U of M" or simply "the U" (ntu).  Only in Michigan do people drop "the" when saying "U of M," which is kind of ironic since "the" is officially part of the name of The University of Michigan, whereas with Minnesota it is not.  The more you know.

If I understood his recruitment correctly, Doles had the opportunity to commit long ago but didn't. So either Doles didn't quite feel comfortable enough with Micghigan to commit or he waited too long hoping for more offers or the desire to do officials. Either way, that was his decision and now he made a good choice to play at NW. At the end of the day, it's not a loss for Michigan.

I'm just confused. I know we have been talking to him for a while, but this isn't a serious loss, is it? We won't even be playing NW on an annual basis after this year.

.......and this is why Doles went to Northwestern.  He already learned all he needed to know about abbreviation, punctuation, spelling and insults from an Mgoblog board.  Now he can hang by a lake with chicks, hit up Chitown, walk to class and not be late and stare at that temple and try and figure out what type of architecture best describes the nature of its design.
