Players calling recruits
While I was walking home from work up at the student rec center at CMU, I noticed some bigger guys near the entrance to my dorm. They were obviously football players by their stature (and based on the dorm they were staying in) and I noticed two of them were on the phone. I couldn't help but overhear their conversations and they were talking to recruits and giving them advice on things and just your general program fluff.
It got me thinking. I wonder how often the players of college teams actually make calls to other recruits that their coach is recruiting. We've heard things about Tate and Ricardo Miller calling other recruits to try to sway them our way, but how often do other players make calls and how frequently?

Well probably a lot considering they are friends with a lot of them. I can't believe Tate hasn't convinced Brennan Clay to decommit from Oklahoma yet! Maybe after we have a stellar season and Oklahoma just plays average, it will happen.

I'm assuming that these players have a lot of connections to each other due to the caliber of players that they are, E.g. camps, combines, all-star games.

My question would be the legality of this. It'd be nearly impossible to regulate, which is probably why it resides squarely in the dreaded Grey Area.

I'm almost positive that players are not allowed to make contact with recruits, but who the hell can regulate it? IME, I personally think it SHOULD be allowed.

couldn't agree more. Yeah the coaches come to their house or they visit the school, but let's face it they see the good. The players are the ones who are there "in the trenches" and can really tell them what it's like in the program. I'm not saying these programs are hell or anything like that, just saying, it's never as great as it seems

some people on here would know better than me, that if a recruit has a "prior relationship" with a current player on the team then they can call each other as much as they want. and most of these kids meet each other at camps and whatnot, so many of them fall under that loophole.

Haha Well Michigan doesn't have to worry, it's Central that does. In any case I would never (try to) throw my schools under the bus in any way.
