A Question For ESPN Insiders/Tate for Heisman?

Submitted by allHAILthedeat… on

A quick question for anyone that has an ESPN insider account. This link:

http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/insider/news/story?id=4454381&addata=200…

is to the ESPN 'Week 1 Heisman Predictor' claiming "With Bradford out of the race, a freshman QB enters the Predictor picture".

Now, while part of me really wants this to be Tate, I must be realistic here (it's probably Barkley because OMGUSCLOLZ). I just need to know who this frosh QB is so I can stop obsessing about it.

Also, I'd like to officially start the "Tate for Heisman" campaign.

Premature? Perhaps.
Insane? Absolutely.
Doing it anyway? Hell yes.

Yeah they're talking about Barkley in that article, but mind you it was written before the Notre Dame game (although I'd still be pretty surprised if they mentioned Tate in the next)

I would be fairly surprised too. That being said:
-------------------------
Tebow (current heisman frontrunner according to ESPN):

Pass: 15/24 237yds 4TD
Run: 13Car 71yds 1TD

Tate:

Pass: 23/33 240yds 2TD 1Int
Run: 13Car 70yds 1TD
-------------------------
Not too shabby...

I don't know who it is, but if it's Barkley they are way off. I watched him against OSU and he doesn't look head and shoulders above what I would consider and "good" freshman QB. He certainly didn't look better than Tate has thus far. That being said he played a very stout OSU defense which actually surprised me somewhat. They are far better than I thought they'd be this year (don't know why my expectations for their D was so low).

The writer says he "might" become a candidate with a breakout game vs. OSU. However, he points out that no freshman has ever won it. He then says, in a half-joking manner, that the only way he could win it as a freshman is if he throws 45 TD's this year and averages 300+ yds. a game.

SI's Heisman Watch makes mention of him. Although, I think its premature to start talking about him as a Heisman candidate.

10. QB Daryll Clark, Sr., Penn State

Last week: 20-of-31 passing, 240 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT; 2 rushes, minus-1 yard in a 28-7 victory against Syracuse

Season: 49-of-71 passing, 593 yards, 6 TDs, 2 INTs; 5 rushes, 4 yards

Heisman-o-meter: There are a number of players who could've landed in this spot. Along with the aforementioned Gilyard, Pike and Spiller, Purdue's Ralph Bolden, Notre Dame's Michael Floyd, Alabama's Mark Ingram (who battled the flu last week) and even Michigan's Tate Forcier are among the multiple contenders. But for the second straight week, Clark gets the 10 spot. He didn't have as good a game as he had in the opener, but he has the Penn State passing game moving even after the losses of Derrick Williams, Deon Butler and Jordan Norwood. And he just may end up being the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year when the season's complete.

Up next: Saturday vs. Temple

to the OP's ending comments I will be going to the EMU game and plan on making a sign that says something like

4CIER
4 heisman.

Not very creative I know but I have almost a week to come up with something better.
