OT: NFL Draft / Who Do You Want Your Team To Draft? OPEN Thread

Submitted by Mr. Yost on

I wouldn't create this type of thread if either Football or Basketball were in season, but since it's the slow period, I feel like it's okay.

That said, are your more following Michigan players in the draft or do you have a team? Who do you want your team to draft? Where do you think Michigan's players will be drafted?

Any and all discussion is welcome...

I want the Lions to draft Dion Jordan. He has freakish athletic ability and can do things that guys in his size shouldn't do.  He would be a great fit as a 4-3 SAM LB with his ability to cover against TEs/WRs yet has the athleticism to line up at DE on passing downs and rush the passer.

with the signing of Quin, resigning of Houston and Delmas.  I liked 2 young CBs in Bentley and Green, and both can start for the Lions.  CB is not a big need that many think they are, and I believe that Mayhew thinks the same as well.  They do need a quality backup S just in case Delmas gets hurt.

They need more help at DE than at CB. Dion wouldn't play DE for the Lions but would play at SAM LB for them because of his ability to do a lot of things for the Lions defense.

I would agree but Delmas is basically a glorified cheerleader he misses so many games. He plays about 6 games a season and he only plays hurt on National TV games. We can count on him week 1 & if we're on MNF, SNF and Thanksgiving. Other than that it's a mix of random nobody types that are moving from CB to FS to SS to LB, etc. We NEED 2 things in this draft to pan out: Secondary (at any position, with a preference for Milliner) and OL (As many as possible as our record hasn't been great picking them). So, if we stay at 5 and landed Milliner or either of the concensus top 2 OTs I'd be fine. After the first pick, use the next on whatever you didn't take and then keep piling on OL. We do need a late pick at LB & DL, though. So, assuming no trades it should be something like 1 DB, 1 DL, 1 LB & 2-3 OL. (Lions only have 5 or 6 picks, right?)

As much as many think they do. It's not as big of a need as DE or SAM LB on defense. I also don't think Milliner is as good as the value at #5 overall IMO(to me, he's a late 1st rounder), and other CBs in the draft in 2nd/3rd round are just as good as Dee.

I tend to think they will go for Ziggy at #5 if that we're to happen.

but I teach at the high school that Dion went to out in Arizona.  I spot at the football games as well, and while I have no great insight on what kind of pro he will be, I hope he makes it.  What he went through his senior with the burns he suffered (if you've never read the story, here's a link, http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nfl--perseverance-leads-oregon-s-dion-jordan-to-brink-of-nfl-after-accident-almost-ended-his-dream-023331504.html) and how it affected his recruitment really makes me want to see the kid succeed.  I've never heard anything but good about him from the people who worked with him...

I think this thread would be fine any time. It's a pretty big event and involves a lot of players from Michigan and players who have played against Michigan. Anyway, I almost think there's no way the Lions can mess this up. I just don't want them to take Ansah, I just don't get the hype with him. I'd like them to take Milliner but really anything from Dion Jordan to Eric Fisher would be fine with me.

After thinking about it, I would have to say the lions should get the best LT ( Probably Fisher) that is available. I was a big Dee Millner fan at first but im not sure hes gonna be a shut down corner right away in the NFL.. If he was Patrick Peterson I would say grab him, buts hes not. So LT it is. We need O lineman real bad.

My team will draft Denard Robinson. That's because the team that has Denard will become my team. I think he'd fit in well with the lions, iggles, or patriots.

The Lions need both line help as well as secondary help, but I think a corner is a stretch that early. And given their cap situation, I'd rather spend whatever money on linemen than corners, at least in the short term. The lack of a running game and decent pass protection scares me

I made this (for the Detroit Lions) a month ago, although it's oozing with B1G Homerism in the late rounds and I obviously have no knowledge or expertise, it was just interesting to look at prospects and try to see what I would do.

1st Round: Eric Fisher (OT) - Central Michigan

1st Round [via trade with Denver Broncos*]: Bjoern Werner (DE) - Florida St.

4th Round: Tyrann Mathieu (CB) - Formerly LSU

4th Round: Ryan Swope (WR) - Texas A&M

5th Round: Earl Watford (OG) - James Madison

5th Round: Johnny Adams (CB) - Michigan St. / Terry Hawthorne (CB) - Illinois

6th Round: Jake Stoneburner (TE) - Ohio / Joseph Fauria (TE) - UCLA

7th Round: MarQueis Gray (ATH) - Minnesota

7th Round: Kenny Demens (ILB) - Michigan / Mike Taylor (OLB) - Wisconsin

*In trade with Denver Broncos, Detroit Gets: Denver's 1st, 4th and 5th round selections. Denver Gets: Detroit's 2nd and 3rd round selections.

The Honey Badger is really good. But, he is too much of a head case for the Lions at this point. ***If the Lions went and got Woodson, that would make more since to have a mentour for Mathieu.                                                                                                                                                I like Fisher or the other OT in the 1st round. The Lions need a running game.

I wouldn't mind if in the fifth round....or to trade back into the fourth round...to take Lattimore, the injured RB from USC (not that USC). I think he is the best rb in the draft, and is a steal below the 3rd round, although he is there for the obvious risk involved

Mathieu will be taken in the late 2nd/early 3rd round.  There is a possibility we could get Werner in the 2nd round, so not sure why we would give up our 3rd and 4th rd picks.  I don't mind swope in the 4th.  I'm not a fan of the rest of your picks though.

Here's what ESPN has...

I'll say Denard is a mid-late 3rd rounder, Campbell is late 4th/early 5th round, Kovacs is late 6th/early 7th and Demens is mid-7th round...

I'm very intrigued by our draft possibilities. I haven't kept up with the offseason chatter but I assume we'll be after offensive playmakers at WR. Would have been after the top LT if not for Jake Long (woooo!) Can't wait to see what Fisher has planned for all his top picks.

Especially on the defensive side of the ball. Was there a better defensive conference in the league last year? I don't think so, personally. Best part... the Rams had the best record within that division last year... just couldn't keep it rolling outside of the NFC West. OT Edit: Ah so you're the one who beat me to Solo Dolo. I would've gone with Solo Dolo Man most likely.... to hide my proclivities a bit more subtly.

I was going going to make it Mr Solo Dolo, but for some reason I didn't, obvs. I don't smoke anymore, ((most)real jobs aren't too keen about that), but I have no problem with it or people that do. Is yours from "Who's got the herbs" by 311?? That's what I always think (hope)when I see your screen name. Love me some 311.

As a Chargers fan, I don't think they pick anyone other than Lane Johnson, Chance Warmack or Jonathan Cooper. And I think Buffalo picks either of the guards to replace Andy Levitre. TB doesn't need a WR that early, I think they go corner if the Revis deal doesn't work out. Bottom line, I'm trying to sway you with my unprofessional opinion that Austin falls to STL. They do need a guy like Austin pretty bad!

I was hoping my Bucs traded back with St Louis or Minnesota because they both want Austin. They better not have given up too much. I'm sure they did because the GM's job is on the line. All or nothing type of season.

I'm also a rams fan and that is my fear too but that leaves a chance that one of the other three or four (warmack, vaccarro, cooper, fluker) prospects that could really help us on either side of the ball and they could also go best player available.

gsot21

April 21st, 2013 at 1:51 PM ^

If the Rams grabed a saftey and a Tavon i would be happy. Or if one of the top two guards is avialibele during their pick (warmack or Cooper) i would take them over any of the safteys in this draft. Also i really hope they dont reach for Lacy, dont think he is that good of a RB.

I figured we (rams) could still get a Fluker or Ogletree type at pick 22. The Rams have Washington's pick as well. RGIII.

They haven't had a player like Austin since Marshall. I also worry they continue to trade down to compile picks. At some point the team needs to get playmakers and not focus so much on depth. Only way to take the next step.

I see Will being a 5th-6th.  Has too many measurables as a space-eating DT, maybe a practice squad guy for year 1 before becoming a solid platoon contributor.

CB Desmond Trufant from Washington, or the best DE that's on the board. I wouldn't mind the Donkeys taking all defense, and picking up a solid RB somewhere in the 3rd or 4th round. This team is gonna be fun to watch this year.
