OT: RIP broadcasting legend Pat Summerall
Broadcaster Pat Summerall has passed away at the age of 82. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
He currently holds the record for most Super Bowls called, at 16. He was on-air partners with John Madden for over 20 years and the two did 13 SBs together.
He will be missed by many football fans.

The fans and organization of the NFL will miss you.
Better even than his in-game calls was his work on the EA Sports Madden games. He was the voice of my Super Nintendo.
This is sad to hear - a connection to my childhood of watching the NFL is lost. I always enjoyed how Pat Summerall was the more introspective, reserved foil to John Madden, and CBS Sunday Nights (later Fox, of course) into my early adulthood were looked forward to because of his voice.
His introductions to playoff games and Super Bowls were epic. One of my favorite Summerall moments:
and was able to see the cowboys/bills in the super bowl that year. i may not like them much, or jimmy johnson, but they had a heck of a football team.
Did you get that info about the Super Bowl from the article? The Super Bowl rotates networks so I wouldn't think Madden and Summerall could do that many Super Bowls together. Seems like that number should be 6 or 7.
Quick Wikipedia search shows 8
Pat did an incredible 16 Superbowls, but I'm not sure how many of those 16 were with or without Madden. Seeing as that his number of Super Bowl broadcasts is more than any other announcer, at least one of those games was not with Madden.
Stewart Mandel's twitter feed said it, and this is actually what wikipedia says:
Super Bowl legacy
Summerall has broadcast 16 Super Bowls on network television with CBS and FOX, more than any other announcer. He also contributed to 10 Super Bowl broadcasts on CBS Radio as a pregame host or analyst.
Sad to hear. He was always money with Madden in the booth.
RIP, sir.
he was one of the best. RIP.
Pat Summerall, John Madden, the FOX NFL theme, and the NFC powerhouse Cowboys, 49ers and Packers rivalries, those were the ingredients to the greatest pro football enchilada the NFL ever hoped it could be. Memories for the ages. Pat was pro football's Kieth Jackson. Second to none. He will be missed.
and his style at it. one of those so-familiar voices. might be the football version of earnie harwell, though earnie i have no doubt is in heaven's hall of fame too.
blessings to the summerall family.
Although he was dismissed for his racist comments the BEST football announcing team was not Madden and Summerall. It was Brookshier and Summerall!
If you are old enough to remember or care to YouTube - watch a few "This week in the NFL" and check out the narration & music. This was back in the day when you got one, maybe two games a week and highlights from other games were only available via these types of montages.

Back in the day, I'd watch any game being called by Summerall/Madden. These days, I hardly watch any NFL games at all. I've missed that pair (and Keith Jackson on Saturdays) for years.
RIP, Pat.
Thanks to the EA sports work, he was the voice of football for me. Other than Chef on South Park, True Value hardware never had a better spokesman.
