baseball: M 5, PSU 1

Submitted by snowcrash on

The Michigan baseball team scored 5 runs in the 8th inning to sink Penn State today. They managed just 2 hits off PSU starter TJ Jann today despite striking out just once. Jann left after the 7th, and with 2 out in the 8th PSU proceeded to walk the bases full. M then got consecutive hits from Michael O'Neill, Zach Zott, and Kevin White.

Trent Szkutnik was outstanding, walking just 1 and striking out 12 over 6 2/3 innings. Matt Ogden finished the 7th and pitched the 8th, and Jacob Cronenworth finished up.

The team's record is now 18-14, 5-2 in conference.

That's the seventh-straight victory for the Wolverines, their longest winning streak since the team won 9 in a row in 2010.

Michigan Baseball just tweeted that "Szkutnik's 12 strikeouts are the most by a Wolverine since Chris Fetter struck out 13 against Illinois in 2009."

I am glad. It appears things are going vise versa from the previous two years. Last year and the year before that would've been Michigan with the 1 run lead then blowing it. Good to see Bakich turning things around, hopefully they can get back into the Big Ten Tournament this year. Go Blue.

Most home games have an audio stream through the official athletic website. The game on Sunday is supposed to be on BTN. Michigan got screwed by BTN for baseball coverage (really, baseball in the B1G got screwed by BTN). Only 20 regular season games are being televised and Michigan is featured in exactly one of them, tied for last in the conference with N'W and Iowa. One blogger had a good write up on it: http://b1gbaseball.com/2013/02/20/the-big-ten-networks-swing-and-miss/#…

So unless we make the conference tourney, Sunday will be the only chance to watch on TV
