EDIT*: Michigan wins its sixth-straight game, defeating Notre Dame in South Bend, 4-1. As Center Ice pointed out, Notre Dame went into the game ranked in the top 25, ranked between #16 and #24 by the various polls.

James Bourque went 5 1/3 to get the win and is now 3-4 on the season. Matt Ogden went the rest of the way in relief to earn his first save.

The Wolverines next play host to Penn State for a three-game series this weekend.

With wins against VT, OU, and Cal Poly, Notre Dame is a good team.

Michigan is playing very well today. It's good to see them taking care of business against the #22 ranked team in the country.

but damnit, I was planning until yesterday to go to this game as soon as I got away from my job today, being less than a half-hour away.  But too f'n tired and hungover from last night's loss to have the energy to go, though, and looks like I missed a good one.  F me!

South Bend Tribune article on the game has a lengthy discussion of the near-triple play. The umps said that the runners on second and third had tagged up on the play, so they were safe, but the runner at first had not, so he was out. But as the article points out, by the time the runner at first was tagged, he had returned to first, so he shouldn't have been out either. One of the most confusing plays I've ever seen.

Team is playing very well right now. Unexptected considering we have a fairly young team and Biondi is not 100%. Alot better than I expected in Bakich's first year. Probably going to check the team out against Penn St this weekend.

Bakich made his weekly appearance on WTKA this morning. Podcast can be found here.

Among other things, he said that Ben Ballantine had surgery on his ankle yesterday and is doing well. Team has responded positively to the injury and "are really motivated to make sure we continue to play our butts off and do it for Ben."

He also said that Evan Hill "still has work to do, still not firing on all cylinders yet"—which is rather scary. Hill earned his third Big Ten freshman of the week award a couple days ago.
