EDIT: Make that six: Burke has also won the National Association of Basketball Coaches Division 1 Player of the Year award.
Michigan's press release on these awards points that Burke is the first Wolverine in program history to win either honor.
I believe the only major POY award yet to be awarded is the Adolph Rupp Trophy.
To recap, Burke has won the Oscar Robertson, Wooden, and Naismith awards, plus the AP, NABC, and SI player of the year awards.
What???? I thought for sure it would be Craft.
"Duh", said everybody, everywhere
Congrats Trey. Only one win away from the ultimate prize; the last peice of the college resume.
I don't know if this deserves its own thread, but check out this awesome picture of Burke and Desmond Howard.
Great picture of two of the greats! Go Blue!
that is an outstanding picture
Congrats trey! You earned it! Gooooo Blueeee!!! Beat the Cards!!! And Go Blue!
Now let's add National Champion to your resume! Go Blue!
that's the one thing missing. Only for about 24 more hours though
You would almost hate to say that congratulating someone on another major award is routine, but in the case of Trey Burke and the incredible season he has had in concert with the run this team is having, it's an excellent routine. Congratulations to Trey on yet another honor!
Hail.
in order to make it a truly aMAZEing season.....congrats Trey and GO BLUE!
Come on, you should know this one.
Its so cool to see our football legends like Desmond, Charles, and Denard embrace our basketball team. It helps both programs to have the other one kick ass on a national stage.
Is this the last one? Why are there so many different POY awards
One more still to be announced—the Adolph Rupp Trophy.
for Ohio. Not even second string behind Craft. Go figure...
Good lord, he is going to need a really big trophy case...
Congrats, Trey
I don't think he's going to have any trouble affording one.
Jersey is going to be retired. MORE hardware than Cazzie Russell.
I agree. They need to retire that jersey next year.
Your argument is invalid. The only reason why Burke has won more awards than Cazzie Russell is because most of these awards didn't exist in Russell's day. Russell won every POY award given out in 1966. According to the NCAA Award Winners publication, there were only four awarded that year, and Russell swept them: AP, USBWA (now called the Oscar Robertson Trophy), Sporting News, and UPI (now defunct).
All of the following were created after Russell's time at Michigan: Wooden, Naismith, Adolph Rupp, NABC, and Basketball Times. So he obviously had no chance to win them.
Sporting News, for the record, gave its POY award to Victor Oladipo, while Otto Porter was Basketball Times' pick.
and honestly I don't even know the answer to this one. When was the last time Michigan had a Naismith and Player of the year award winner?! DAMN lol Congrats Trey Burke!
Never. They never had a Naismith winner.
What a year for Trey and UM!
Kind of wish they did this after the season was over.
For most teams it is :)
decorated player ever? Not sure, but damn...he's had to win just about every major award.
HE IS A MICHIGAN MAN
Congrats. The most deserving player by a mile.
Justice is served. Looking back I guess Oladipo was never really a threat! Congrats to Trey Burke a true Michigan Legend!
So Mr. Burke, do you think it was a good idea to come back for your sophomore year? I thought so.
Congrats, Trey!! Well earned. Now lets bring home just one more trophy tomorrow night.
Win tomorrow Trey!!
Most likely the last time I will see you play is tomorrow night.... I dont watch the pro-game...
Good Luck
it's ok, you won't be able to miss his future highlights on sportscenter
Congrats to Trey for an outstanding year. Go Blue!
