Michigan vs. Syracuse NCAA Tournament Game 5 Open Thread

Submitted by M-Wolverine on
Game coverage technically an hour away. But we know it'll be more with a latter tip as the current game runs long. But this is how the first 4 have gone (early thread), so I'm not changing. Somehow we need to counter the jinx of an early preview on the front page, and show the great basketball gods that this is the sincerest board and they can shower us with presents if we sit in the patch overnight. So that Liveblog better be up soon. Talk Michigan if you can't wait, or head over to the first game thread while it's going. Everyone hyping the 2-3, saying no one can handle it, and it's a great season no matter what. But we're there, and there are no Kentucky juggernauts this year....and who knows who stays? Might as well win it this year. Why not us? Four down, two to go. Go Blue!

Good to see the team has settled into a nice groove. They're being patient, eating up some clock and still getting points. Has to be throwing Syracuse into a funk.

Spike fucking Albrecht.

20 minutes away from playing for it all.

...so you can see "The McGary / Robinson Effect" in offensive rebounding:

  FG% 3FG% FT%  Eff. FG% Off. Reb. %
MICHIGAN 44.83% 35.29% 57.14% 55.17% 41.18%
SYRACUSE 40.74% 28.57% 33.33% 44.44% 18.75%

Mitch McGary and THJ have four assists each and the awesome stat of the half - 16 of those 36 points are off the bench. Great all around effort here!

We're up by this much without Burke our nik really contributing offensively. If they step up their second half I think we can pull this baby out

Play Defense. Rebound.

Cuse is gonna get uncomfortable of they have to extend the zone or come out of it. We burn clock and score a few buckets and we play Monday.

LET EM HANG! GO BLUE!

Need to give credit to our efforts on D.

It's clear that we will not be completely shut down by the zone.  This puts a lot of pressure on their O, which they are not used to dealing with.

Would love to see michigan run a double high post, with the pick set to side of key. With double high post one picks and follows allowing Burke a kick to corner , free throw line or a kick back to the original screen man

Beautiful basketball being played.  We look fantastic, and that's with Trey and Nik being stone cold.  Let's keep our composure and stay patient offensively, and we should be playing on Monday.

But if not, if we keep hitting shots, they're going to get tired running in their zone at our shooters who get the ball from our passes, and wear out in the last 5-10 minutes.

I think you have to give them credit. Michigan has hit some great deep shots. Would love to see the ball get into McGary more so he can find the open man. If blue can get it in there consistently it's over

It's for moments like this, when "winning the right way" has meaning, that makes puting up with the shananigens at OSU, ALA, Yes That Miami, etc. more bearable.

Regardless of the outcome tonight, I'm proud to be a Michigan fan and a Michigan Man.

Go Blue!!
