Cissoko's coverage today

He was up against a very accurate QB (when he has time to throw, which he did today) who was throwing to one of the best receivers in the country, and ND was picking on Boo Boo because the other choice was Warren.

I made this comment on another thread, but to my untrained eyes it seemed like there was a lot more safety help for Warren rather than Boo Boo. He did play soft but without safety help I think you need to play soft. He got burned a few and also had a few great coverages (including that BS pass interference, still pissed about that one) My guess is that Gerg gambled by letting him cover one on one a number of times. Lost a few times but also won a number of those. So yeah, maybe it is the euphoria of a win, but I thought he actually played pretty well.

Where he was lined up was where the coaches wanted him lined up. If they had wanted him playing press coverage, he would have been lined up closer. The intention of the defense for most of the game seemed to be against giving up the deep pass and allowing some of the shorter stuff as a result. While Cissoko definitely got burnt a few times today, I really liked seeing his consistent physical play and he never really got discouraged. He was going up against really really good receivers today, maybe better than any other 2 we face again this year, and our corners were bound to get beat a few times. It didn't help that we didn't get much pressure on Clausen in the first half.

He played well for the most part he just gave up a few big plays and dropped an interception. People are just making out like he did worse than he actually did because his mistakes were obvious. For going up against probably the best WR corps in the entire NCAA I think he did well.

must have been frustrating for Golden Tate early in the game. He dropped several "easy" catches in the late part of the game. Boo Boo must have got into his head early.

BC's play wasn't good at times, but I think that it was more of a schematic issue. When we sat back and relied on our front four to reap havoc, we gave Jimmay too much time. His coverage got better in the latter parts of the game because there was more pressure on the QB. Simply put, if our d-line is kept in check, an accurate passer will light us up. Fortunately for us, ND's o-line is considered better than a lot of the o-lines we will face, so this shouldn't be a reoccurring theme!

Micheal Floyd is a beast that looks to be a top ten pick come draft day. Boo did play hard and at the end of the game he did have some very good play. I'll give him a "B"

Floyd and Tate are one of the best WR tandems in the country and IMO Floyd is one of the top 5 WRs in the country. But, Cissoko still didn't have a great day. But, the thing that pissed me off most about Cissoko today were the plays were he got very, very lucky not to get burned and then got up and took credit for his coverage. I don't think I would've minded if it weren't for watching the game with a bunch of ex-players who were screaming at him the entire game.

I really want to come to his defense right now. All of my friends were goating him and people in the stadium were doing the same. He had a tough assignment is the first thing. Second thing, he didnt get safety help that much, so that didnt make it any easier. Third, he was injured guys!!! He almost didn't play this week. He doesn't play and we lose the game bar none. JT Floyd gets torched over and over again! Last is just how important he is because of that fact and our depth, so get behind him

More of a general gripe: It's fucking mind-boggling to me that ANY Michigan fan can watch a game like that, after the season we had last year, and LATER THAT DAY write an annoying, hand-wringing post about things that went wrong. At some point, we can worry about the performance that Cissoko put up, but fuck - can't you enjoy a win like that for 24 hours? To your point: He was a 5'6" CB playing a 6'3" WR who is about 70 lbs heavier than him - frequently without safety help. He was playing against a QB AND WR that we'll see on Sundays, and who were operating without much pressure the entire day. Our defensive struggles can be summed up with this: their offensive line killed our D-Line for the entire day.

He didn't have a great day, but I also didn't see much (if any) safety help for him on most of those plays. I don't know if that was a schematic thing or what, but we've got to get our safeties around the ball more.

that with our lack of depth, he and Warren played basically every single defensive snap and both were out on islands all day. While they did give up a lot of yardage, they both limited YAC - we didn't see missed tackles that led to really long TDs like in last year's game. Also, BooBoo was the victim of that truly atrocious PI call where Tate ran over his back and threw his arms up and the ref came in and threw the flag about 10 seconds after the play was over.

It may have been a little smoke screen regarding our CBs. Last week RR was talking about how our CBs love to play at the line and blanket the defenders. Was RR selling his "snake oil" again?
