needs to have an independent firm perform investigations into alleged academic and athletic violations at schools. They are now part of the problem.

The NCAA should also have regional offices around the country (much like the regional university accrediting body system) for all matters that come under their jurisdiction.

It's been well documented but Mark Emmert gave just a horrendous "press conference" yesterday, where he basically fillibustered to avoid questions and eventually sarcastically talked shit to Dennis Dodd who advocated him getting fired.  You gotta be a real shmuck for me to side with Dennis Dodd against you, and Mark Emmert is that shmuck.

transcript of Emmert's press conference yesterday and on paper he sounded awful. I couldn't imagine actually watching it. He's a joke and should be embarrassed with everything that has gone on just these past couple years under his watch.

And basically agreed with the author. It ~should~ be a big deal, but it's not.

It's interesting that the NCAA did not turn up any wrong-doing when they were on campus investigating the Cam Newton situation... Definitely a head-scratcher...

The NCAA is an embarrassment. I was looking forward to seeing them make an example of Miami and now there's a chance that they get off scot-free. I don't know if the organization as a whole needs to be dissolved, but at the very least, it seems like Emmert should step down, and maybe they should hire an outside enforcement firm to handle these things. College sports are quickly turning into the Wild West.

The notion college sports are turning into the wild west is misleading. There's more coverage so people know more of what happens. But I don't think for one instant things are shadier than the past. We just are aware things are shady. Disagree? Go ahead and look into the 70s and 80s if you want to see the wild west. Steroids were rampant, payments were blatant. Today it's tame, but there are 496 thousand sports sports channels now so the perception has changed.
