What did you do when Trey hit The Shot and/or when the KU game ended?

Submitted by Erik_in_Dayton on

I wasn't able to take part in the MgoCelebration this weekend, but I don't want to be done enjoying what happened.  So, what did you do when Trey hit The Shot or when Michigan beat Kansas?  I let out an "Ooooooohhhhhhhh!" when Trey sunk the three, and I stared in disbelief at the TV when the game ended and then jumped around in a circle for a good thirty seconds.   That will be one of my favorite sports memories for the rest of my life, I have to think.

I had been standing in front of my tv for the past couple of minutes, so I leapt in the air and punched nonexistent things and screamed expletives for a good thirty seconds. I then started texting everyone I know wh wasnt present incoherent things that were made even less coherent by my shaking hands.

....here is a copy of one of my many posts from Friday night...

"...screeching like my 9 year old daughter and her friends...watching the game alone in the dark in my family room...drunk on the blue drink I was drinking out of my 20 year old Michigan glass.

I've been on the phone with my 45 year old Michigan grad friends and we're all losing our minds.  Between Denard and Trey this is an epic era in Michigan sports.

I'm losing my mind over here."

Mouth widely open.  Gutteral sounds continually emitted, growing louder and louder until reaching an intolerable cresencdo.  My dog left the room in utter fright.  Then a completely silent commercial break before OT in an attempt to digest what happened.

I screamed "HE DID IT....HE DID IT....HE DID IT" as loud as I could at my television while pointing at and jumping up and down.  Then I high-fived my wife and my very confused (and probably a bit frightened) 8 year old.  The cats all took off and went downstairs.

Now I'm not one to take credit for the win or anything here but lets face it.  Pretty damn obvious by the way they played in OT that the team could feel my positive emotional presence  here in Northern Ohioi and fed off it to secure the win.

Your welcome.

Leaped up, grabbed my 7 year old son in the other room (who was watching it in the other room, since the first half we watched together M wasn''t playing so well), he dove off the bed, I carried him around like a human victory cigar into my 5 year old daughter room, who was now woken up, as we were all screaming going crazy and screaming 'RIDICULOUS' and then the victors..

Then after we won, spent the next 3 hours pressing refresh on the Internet.

Somehow got the back alcove at Buffalo Billiards and just ran around hugging people.

Someone spilled their beer all over my back and I didn't even notice until my friend pointed it out.

Rewatched the last 5 minutes and overtime on DVR as soon as I got home and was still screaming. Exhilarating is the only way I can describe it.

I was at a wedding, and I had my March Madness app on my phone while the meals were being served (surprisingly, an excellent video feed). I didn't know the bride or groom personally, it was a co-worker of my girlfriend, so although I was being incredibly rude, I didn't feel too much guilt.

When Trey hit The Shot, I let out a yelp, although stifled it rather quickly for fear of being overly rude. I noticed at the same time multiple people had let out yells, screams, or yelps of the same sort all around the reception hall, and realized that somewhere around a dozen people at the wedding were doing the same thing I did. When the clock finally hit zero in OT, I simply raised my hands in glory, and with my girlfriend not too happy with my decision to watch the game, I spent the rest of the night making it up to her.

That my dog jumped out of the couch, looked at me really confused and ran away as fast as I could. Then when Trey hit a 3 in overtime I screamed again, and I honestly think my dog thought about biting me he was so confused/scared.

I was at a bachelor party friday night in Detroit, we had dinner at Fishbones and watched most of the game there. We went to the bar in our hotel , the Antheum, and watched the end of the game there starting with about 3 minutes left in regulation. We went absolutely nuts in the hotel bar...after that I celebrated way to hard. Like piss my pants drunk....

NOOOO! ANYTHING BUT THAT THREE ATTEMPT! ARE YOU KIDDING ME WITH THAT BURKE! WORST IDEA EVER TREY! WAY TO BLOW IT!

then...

I yelped and said screamed like a little girl. Then I was/and continue to be in utter disbelief of all things. Like I no longer believe in gravity. I don't think the earth is round. I am nothing but a projection of what my mind thinks I am. The entire world isn't real and this is all a dream that a zit had one time right before getting scrapped off by the giant who actually exists.

This theory is even more sound after the total dismantling of what we think is the Florida Gators.

Said "holy s#!t" then turned off the television.

I'm less than two weeks from my PhD comps exams (five fields), and Michigan basketball is too emotionally involving and draining right now. That sequence from the missed free throw to Burke's shot is the only Michigan tourney basketball I've seen live this year.

I better pass these #*($! exams.

I'm at work right now, so mgoblog is okay.

When the books come out, mgoblog pretty much disappears. Plus, mgoblog never gets my blood pressure, rage, elation, etc. up the way live Michigan sports do. It's the exhaustion of the event that makes it bad for studying.

Earlier in the day I had gone out to lunch and had some really hot foods, so it was a bad night for me already. I had to dump the last 7:00 of the 2nd. I was watching the game in my basement and when Trey hit that 3 I jumped up and down (bad idea) and punched the air screaming as loud as I could, waking up the baby that was on the 2nd floor. Then I proceeded to take a very fast dump and ran back downstairs just in time for OT to start.

I stood up as soon as the free throw was missed and yelled, "We have a chance." Then after the shot went in I started running around the basement alternating between yelling "yeah" and "what is happening?"

I had to pause to let my wife know that I was going to continue to be loud and that I would stay up with the kids if I woke them up.

We have an old house with low textured ceilings and I had to make sure not to jump. I scraped off the skin on all of my knuckles on my right hand during the Northwestern football game last season with a jumping first pump.

Yeah, a lot of shit went through my mind in short order. Then I posted some completely irrational stuff on Facebook.

I ran around my house family room and dining area screaming and fist pumping like a mad man. It sounds like I was not alone in this sort of activity. I am glad I have company.

I watched the game alone so as not to annoy anyone when I rewind every great M play 7 times. I've been standing up in front of the tv ever since Trey stole the ball in the opening minute of the VCU game, only sitting for timeouts to check MgoBlog on the iPad. So, I was standing, laughing hysterically and screaming, "What the hell?!!! What the hell??!!!! Holy shit! Holy fuckin shit! What the fuck just happened???? Holy shit! Ohhhh my god. What the fuck.....just happened? Yessssssss!!!!" Over and over again. Just in shock.

I had moved right in front of my TV because proximity to the TV obviously makes it more likely for Michigan to win. When he hit it, I shot up off my knees and started jumping up and down screaming.

yelled "Ohhhh!!!!!" really loud and shot my arms in the air scaring my wife who was on her computer next to me paying only a little attention to the game.

When the Kansas ball hit off the rim to end the game I again started yelling and air humping profusely

As soon as he hit it, I proceeded to jump and yell for about 30 seconds, and then run around the first floor of my house screaming for another minute or two... then ran upstairs and popped into the bedroom for about 15 seconds screaming at my 8 months pregnant wife "BURKE TIED IT, BURKE TIED IT" and then back downstairs.

My cousins happened to be coming over, and they waited at the driveway when they saw on their phone that there was about a minute left because they knew I'd be too focused.  Needless to say, before their phone could refresh they knew what happened from the loud screams coming from inside.

After the game, I spent about 30 minutes trying to convince my wife that we should name our unborn daughter "Alfansa," after one Alfonso "Trey" Burke III.

The next morning my back was very sore... guess I'm getting too old for all that jumping.  I also found the following note waiting for me:

I yelled "Hoooollly Shit" like 10 times at the top of my lungs.  Absolutely speechless.  My roommate also says I yelled, "sorry neighbors!" afterwards (I live in an apartment complex).  I don't remember that though, must of blacked out.

Great moment.

I sank to my knees and started giggling in disbelief (but in a manly way of course) after the shot. After we won,  I was lucky enough to be home alone so I just started sprinting through yelling and acting a fool. This is in contrast to UTL where I literally had to grab a pillow and put it over my mouth because my family was sleeping.

Burke his the shot I started pacing back and forth with out purpose.  I don't know why I did this, it was just the only thing I could do from literally going out of my mind, that shot was so incredible I literally almost lost my shit completely for about 30 seconds.  Then I realized that there was 4 seconds left and Kansas was without question going to hit a game winner so I talked myselt into the fact that we were still going to lose and not to let it kill me.  Lucky for me things went another way.

Was at the Brown Jug.  Went from sitting to jumping almost as quick as Josh Bartelstein and high-fived everyone I could.  Stood there shaking until overtime happened.  Then did it all again.

Setshot

April 1st, 2013 at 12:35 PM ^

Before Trey hit that shot, Elijah Johnson was shooting the 1 and 1 and they showed his stats that he is about a 75% free throw shooter and that he was 3 for 3 on the night. I looked at my dad and said, "stats say he is due to miss this next free throw, then Trey is going to hit a three and we will win in overtime." Well, he missed, and we all know what happened after that. When that shot dropped I jumped in the air, yelled at the top of my lungs in disbelief, and gave my dad the biggest hug. That will be one of those moments that I will never forget for the rest of my life. Hopefully I have a couple more great moments this weekend. Atlanta bound on Friday!

I was in a  bar in OKlahoma, not really paying too fine attention to the game because M was down by a sizable margin pretty much the whole time. I had pretty much resigned myself to the loss. I mean shoot, they were down by 10 with 2 minutes left, I think many of us felt that way for a bit. What was the win probability at one point? 0.6%? It sure felt like a 1-in-100 type of situation...not much hope, just expectant to see the game over with a L. Of course, i knew the players wouldn't give up, but it takes more than effort and will to come back from 10 with so little time left.

And then, GRIII hits that clutch layup off of the Hardaway miss, and I actually thought they had a chance.

And the last play...from the missed FT to the chaos of McGary falling down on the screen, and then Burke launching a prayer from waaaay beyond the arc, all I thought was "No way, that's game."

But, funny things happen in sports. The prayer was answered, it went in, and my reaction was something similar to the sound of orgasm, honestly. With an "Oh my God" mixed in there and  some maniacal laughter.

Me and the two other M fans in the bar made a scene. I don't think anyone there really cared much who won...but we did, and we let everyone know about it. And it was fun.

Was watching the game with a coworker who went to Kansas and had been talking smack the whole game. The look of disbelief on his face was priceless. I shouted in his face, "It's great, to be, a Michigan Wolverine."
