All 5 Starters 20+ Point Games in Tourny
Stauskas' 22 points against Florida make him the fifth starter to clear the 20 point mark in the tournament thus far. I'm not even sure where to find historical data on that feat, but it seems like quite the accomplishment. I'd love to know how rare that actually is. If anyone can shed some light, that'd be great; if not ... well ... its a cool stat IMO.
20+ Point Games:
- Florida - Stauskas 22 points
- Kansas - McGary 25 points, Burke 23 points
- VCU - McGary 21 points
- SDSU - Robinson III 21 points, Hardaway Jr. 21 points
pretty cool stat, actually
someone new has stepped up big every game.
Then we could definitely be having this conversation again next year.
I have heard this speech more times than I can count - at this point, I can literally recite it verbatim.
Yet every single time I hear it, I literally get chills.
Bo was truly amazing.
The fact that we have (at least) 5 guys on our team that can go for 20 on any given night, and already have in the postseason, shows that we are not completely reliant on one player like Burke and thus are harder to defend. I'm still pumped from the win today and I can't wait to be in Atlanta this time next week.
This is a "Team of Destiny" requirement: contributions from everyone at unexpected times. I am still laughing at the incredulous reactions of players on the other teams when Albrecht came in and "Spiked" them. The steal and scoop under the basket is still making me grin.
Not sure the data is availalbe but I'll bet that's never happened before. Most of the time there is one guy that carries the team, maybe two. Usually there is a big man or power forward that gets a lot of boards but can't shoot. This has to be the most balanced team of shooters ever.
Spoke very well of the team in an interview after the game. Was refreshing to hear her put emphasis on the TEAM (knowing her son is f'n awesome)
I really like seeing a good distribution throughout the ranks on our team. The 20+ points stat is great, but there are contributions up and down the floor from everyone, particularly down the stretch against Kansas when Morgan came in. It's a very deep and complete team, and the way Michigan is playing, I have really high hopes for this weekend.
Good catch, that is amazing. I remember the '89 team had contributions like this from a lot of players but I can't find the stats. Sean Higgens, Rice, Rumeal and Mills all 20+ games and Loy was grabbing a lot of rebounds.
AWESOME stat.
How the fuck do you gameplan against that? We're a matchup nightmare.
I had the same thought watching yesterday's game.
During the prior few games, you could kind of lay oof of Stauskas, since he was really slumping. With his three-point performance (along with his general not being just a shooter game, complete with behind the back passes and some ok ball handling), you CANNOT lay off of him.
So what is a team to do? You absolutely have to cover and be aware of Trey on every play. You may have to double McGary down low at times. With Stauskas bombing from long range, you must keep a guy on him along the sideline. It becomes very difficult to go man to man against us, and should result in some good open shots for guys like GRIII and THJ.
