OT: Dog Name

Any ideas for a Michigan/Football related dog name for my wife and I? It's down to Remy, Bo or Blitz. Any other ideas? Thanks.

Is actually named Bo. So yeah, I think that's a good one. I'd also go with Woodson. Lloyd would be awesome for multiple reasons: 1) Dogs with human first names are awesome; 2) dogs with obscure human first names are even more awesome (my buddy's dog is named Walter); 3) Lloyd would obviously be an obscure man's first name, who also happened to win the only national championship in the last 50-plus years for U of M. . . Or you could really be badass and call him Barwis.

Not to get all "I know how to raise my dog/kids/neighbor's dog/kids/arrgh" on you, but it is the voice and intonation of how you say it. When we say "Bo" to call him or say, you know, like "hey dude! Hey Bo! Go open the fridge and get me a beer! Go on boy!" it's a little different than the voice used to say "NO" as in, "NO, BO, stop humping the nice prostitute I brought home. That costs extra!" It's how ya say it, man.

I'm a big fan of giving pets human names, specifically "elderly man" obscure names. I'm not far away from getting a dog myself (English Bulldog) and I'm already thinking of names months before I actually get him. I'm trying to decide between Lloyd (I had already thought of it before this thread), Winston, Herman, George, Chester, and Wally. The names Barney and Max fit the criteria but are too common for pets.

It's the gift that keeps giving. 6 years ago I named my dog Moxon,a Vizsla, after the character from Varisty Blues. I always thought getting dog names from characters in movies you like is a good way to go. You get some non original, but original dog names that way. Never regretted it, it's different. Kids can say it pretty easily. And provides an unendless supply of Dawson's Creek, James vander Beek Jokes. Of your 3 choices, I would go with Remy, depending on the breed/type of dog. If your going to name your dog blitz, he better be a running dog, or look like a linebacker like a bulldog.

If your dog is something like a pittbull or other scary may-attack-you-so-watch-your-back kind of dog, then Blitz. If your dog carries the charisma and is likely to leave his doggy-impact on the world of canines everywhere, then Bo. I'm sure Brian may appreciate "MGoDog."

I had a dog once and when naming it I read to stay away from one syllable names. The rationale behind this is that all commands are one syllable. What I read said you don't want the dog to confuse his name with a command, you want him/her to associate it soley with him/her. Hopefully, this helps. But you could always do your own thing and screw the established norm.....you should have got one of Barwis' wolf's offspring.
