Wisconsin reminds me of a woman in the 1950s workforce who could never break through the glass ceiling.  What's better to be consistently either great or terrible, or consistently just above mediocre like Wisconsin is at all sports?  Touch call, but give me inconsistent greatness over consistent mediocrity.

Weird sports metaphor or weirdest sports metaphor?

First of all, women didn't even come close to the glass ceiling in the 1950s. That term was coined in the 1980s, I think. Second, women didn't hit the glass ceiling, according to the metaphor of the glass ceiling, because of their own mediocrity.

I feel like Bo Ryan really didn't mind losing this game because he gets to troll the entire B1G's repuation as a whole and he also gets to troll the 80% of people who had them winning that game in their brackets. This stuff is his lifeblood.

You summed up perfectly how I feel about Wisconsin. They seem like either a librarian yelling shhhhhh or an annoying TSA agent just out to ruin your day with annoyance or molestation.

Though I agree with your sentiment, these are the kinds of threads that make us look like douchbags and hypocrites when we complain about other teams trolling our Wolverines.

How do we look like douches? By cheering that one of the most annoying, boring, and lucky teams in all of basketball went home?  You know, the team that beat us with a BS half courter, a banked in 3 not too long ago, and had the easiest schedule in the conference by far?

This is March Madness.  It's not a golf tournament.

Was Wisconsin overrated?  They weren't really rated that high (they were a 5 seed) but they beat us twice, beat Indiana twice (including in Bloomington) and made it to the Big Ten tourney finals.

They weren't an elite team, but they weren't rated as such either.  Outside of their tourney exit (which, let's be honest, happens) they were pretty adequately rated, if you ask me.

UofM is also universally hated, by everyone who isnt a UofM fan

This is true in Big Ten country but not necessarily elsewhere. There are many people in other regions that respect us a lot (often more than they do OSU or ND).

To be fair at this time of year everyone bitches about everyone in regrads to their brackets, especially the teams that you've lost twice too and who you subsquently said "A'ight I'll take you to win 1".

Therefore I dont think its too douchey because we'll everybody is doing it.

they lumber through the B1G season just battering people with hideous basketball doing damage for the sake of damage and then they get to the big dance and completely poop the bed.  So figures.

Question to those who saw some or all of the game:  was it your impression that Wisconson lost because they were unable to get away with bumps, etc., that were not typically called as fouls in the B1G?

I'm curious not only w/r/t Wisconson, but whether our preconception that the tournament officials are calling games tighter than the B1G is being borne out in the early rounds.

Yes but not how you may think.  Wisconsin, for the first time since they began conference play, ran into officials who actually called the game they way it was designed to be called and they were absolutely shocked.  For their last 20 games or so they've been allowed to push, hack, punch and basically play icehockeybasketball by the B1G officiating crew.  Today they weren't and they didnt know what to do.

Look at Wisconsin's record in and out of conference.  I so wish the B1G officials would wake up and stop rewarding that bastardization of basketball (see NY Knicks circa 1995 for reference point) and call the game the way it was designed!

I am thrilled they are gone.

Wisconsin definitely plays a "hacky" style and it's good to hear that the refs were having none of that.  With luck that will be a tournament-wide trend, for the sake of Michigan (who, while hardly soft, is not particularly physical).

As far as turnovers go, I suspect the foul calls took Wisconsin out of its game and comfort zone.  Of course Ole Miss may be a bit underrated - they did beat Florida to win the SEC Tournament.  In any event, I'm with all the folks glad to see Wisconsin eliminated, even if it takes some of the shine off of the B1G.

Anyway, thanks for the input!

I had them losing in round one so I'm okay with this. Wisconsin never does anything in the tourney

This is what Wisconsin is going to get with Bo Ryan. In the Big Ten, they'll be a consistent 2nd to 4th place team and in the tournament they will struggle to make it out of the first weekend. I'd place part of the blame on Barry Alvarez's shoulders as well.
