Will there be more M or MSU fans at the Palace? Will you boo MSU if you go?
This is going to be strange with both M and MSU at the Palace.
I don't know what to expect with Michigan and Michigan State playing in the same venue, in their home state.
I'm somewhat fearful of MSU fans outnumbering M fans and making the Palace a hostile environment for the Michigan basketball team
Maybe some hockey fans have some insight with the college hockey games at the Joe featuring M and MSU.
As for me, I don't think I would boo the Spartans, but I definitely would be happy to see them lose
any and all B10 teams in the tourney, except possibly IU.

It would reflect poorly on the B1G if we were talked up all year as the best conference in college basketball, only to be shut out of the Final Four or something.

Crean has soured me on Indiana and Wisconsin has ruined my last month. Everyone else in the B1G I will back until they play us.
This and every year we should be all-in for our conference peers. During the tournament, during the bowl season, even during congressional hearings for research dollars.
They're like your step-siblings. Some you like, some you don't, but in a weird way, they're all family.
Root for all our B1G peers - and when their not playing root purely for upsets. Brackets be damned.

Your scenario basically puts Michigan in Kentucky's shoes - a respected team in a conference that is widely accepted as terrible.
But if the B1G all fails, it is much more likely that Michigan would be viewed more like Oregon - a succesful yet overwhelmingly disrespected team in a conference that is widely accepted as terrible. We need the conference to be respected to enhance the number of bids the conference recieves and the quality of the seeding into the future, including in some years where Michigan may find itself on the bubble.
Did you even read my comment? If you did, do you seriously think Michigan's recent track record is more similar to Kentucky than Oregon?
My point, condensed, is that traditional powerhouses like Kentucky can get away with playing in terrible conferences because they will garner respect regardless of league strength. Hell, Kentucky was "on the bubble" despite a terrible year in a terrible conference only because they were Kentucky.
Teams without much recent sucess will not get that same benefit of the doubt. Oregon won the PAC12 tourney, finished 2nd in the PAC12 regular season, and is a 12 seed in the midwest. Is this the scenario you want to see play out for Michigan in the future should the conference lay an egg in the tourney?

.....except you left off the part where he said, "The only one I want to succeed is Michigan". Nobody here is just saying, I hope the Big Ten sucks and loses, it's just a lot of people don't really care about the conference's success/failure, it's all about Michigan
but this early in the tournament, I wouldn't say they will stick around to hinder us. If we happen to go farther then maybe, but I don't think so for the first weekend.
MSU is a basketball school first.
I wouldn't boo the Spartans in general. If they made a Sparty of themselves and played like thugs (couldn't happen, right?) I would probably partake in joining the opposition's boos.
sparty will be at the Post by 5pm. We have nothing to worry about. Besides they cant afford the all session pass anyway. We are in session 2 and they are in session 1. I cant imagine they would stay even if they has an all sessions pass.
I will be there Saturday and I will not stoop to sparty's level and boo any young athlete trying his/her best to represent their school. These are students regardless of the color of their uniform.
I hope sparty makes an ass out of themselves. I will take photos and post them.

A) Different sessions so many MSU fans will be heading home.
B) Tickets for the UofM game start at $75 versus MSU tickets starting at $44. The UofM ticket average price are going for more than double the average asking price of MSU tickets... The other game is not a big opponent - so it appears as if there is greater demand for UofM and hence most likely more UofM fans. Or perhaps their Dantonio-like hatred for us is causing them to attend our game to boo us and drive the tickets up! (Prices per StubHub)
We also play in the evening session, so a lot more people are able to attend.

The price differential is easily explained when you consider the salary scales in both the food service and custodial science industries that attract most Spartan graduates.

Whenever I've gone, I've bought tickets for all sessions. It is a hoop lovers wet dream, you get to see 6 games in one weekend, including (2 hopefully), of your favorite team.
In my experience, as long as the place isn't full (it never is), if you sit in your seat for however long you'd like, it's yours.
Everything I've seen on Stubhub suggests that the two sessions are being treated as completely separate events. Seats in the same section are up for sale for both Session 1 and Session 2.
They are separate events with separate tix, but the original means of purchasing said tix required purchasing all three sessions.
This is a non issue.

Lighten up Francis. Are you kidding me? You make it sound like drudgery. These events are fun and it is interesting to see which way the crowd is swayed. I think it will be fun if either M or MSU or both get some Goliath booing at the Palace. Afterwards you hit the bars, meet some neat people from other parts of the USA, and share a few cold ones.

The OPs question is the EXACT basis for "little brother" claims of insecurity and narrowed "anyone but UM"/"MSUs best wins against UM they didn't play in" crap.

When I went to first round (technically second round) games in Cleveland a few years ago, the first two games of the day were ticketed separately than the latter two. Is that how they are doing it at the Palace? If so, MSU would be on the first bill and Michigan on the second bill.
I realize many fans may buy tickets for both sets of games, but the two B1G teams will not be playing in front of exactly the same crowd.
2 games/ticket. MSU fans would have to explicitly buy (or have bought) tickets to UM's game to be there and vice-versa
But there are probably a lot of people who bought full session tickets, not knowing what session UM or MSU would be in (after it became highly likely weeks ago that both would be there) and not wanting to risk it selling out. A lot of them will probably try to sell the session they don't want, though.
Or you could have bought the three session ticket when the Palace was announced as a venue, which many people did.
That's the way it's been every time I've gone. They've literally kicked everyone out of the arena between sessions and you need the second ticket of the day to reenter.
Which, as an aside, makes the Palace a relatively bad venue for the first couple rounds of the NCAAs. 3 of the 4 times I've gone, it's been in a relatively urban arena: Milwaukee twice and the Verizon Center in DC. Between sessions, you just go to a bar, watch the other games and drink less expensive beer. Where are you supposed to go at the Palace? I guess you could tailgate, which is a better option than the games I went to when it was at the Rosemont Horizon (Jason Kidd beating Duke his freshman year), where you basically had to schlep to an airport hotel bar.
Except for Wisconsin. Fuck Wisconsin so hard.
Wow. I used to be all "Go Big Tennnnn!!", until I was married to a Sparty and saw first hand what douches most of their fan base is when it comes to anything maize and blue.
Now I root against MSU every time, no matter what. It's even getting to the point where it's a toss-up between ND and MSU when they play.
I'm rooting for the B1G, which includes pulling for MSU and OSU. The conference must perform well this season in the tourney after all of the hype it has received or else questions about the quality of B1G in future seasons could affect future bids/seeding.
Unless we're facing them, Go Green/Go White, O-H-I-O, On Wisconsin, Fight On Illini, Go Gopher Victory, Indiana Fight, and of course, GO BLUE!
