MBB vs, Wisconsin 2nd Half Open Thread

Submitted by San Diego Mick on

I created this thread for 2 reasons, a more entertaining half hopefully, especially for Michigan and to divide up the traffic from the other thread.

We should be leading by more, let's hope we can beat this team down, Go Blue!

It just seems like this team does not have any passion more often than not....what does it actually take to get them consistently ready to play?  Burke appears disinterested and lazy with the ball, and going to too many fall away jumpers again.  Robinson always looks gassed running up and down the floor, Stauskus is always bad if he is not hitting his 3s.

Also, for a team that spends sooooo much time shooting apparently, why is it soo fucking hard to hit a free throw?  They rarely celebrate with each other, and I can barely remember any times when someone on the team actually got into someones face about playing hard.

It would just be great to see some fire......and god damit, Burke needs to step into a shot vs trying to hit the damn fade away... JFC.

We call a set, we run it...no we walk through it...for two or three passes until the ball gets back to Burke, and then it's a ball screen.

Players just moving to the next spot on the floor instead of making a cut. It's driving me crazy--it's all so un-Beilein-like.

...Wisconsin made it to 30 points first.  This game practically over now.

I blame uniformz!

Pathetic free throw shooting and offensively incompetent post players will probably cost Michigan this game and any chance at tournament success. It really sucks. I'm going to have a hard time picking Michigan to get past the sweet 16 ... maybe not even that far if they run across a mid-major that has a solid post scoring option. Points are just extremely hard to come by. Everything is a jump shot, fadeaway, floater, etc ... I really hope Morgan, McGary, or Horford gets hot in the tourny. And by hot, I mean score more than 10 points combined per game.

This is a carbon copy of last season.  Choke your last home game and cost yourself a title(or outright title last year), play unintrested and lazy in the 2nd round of the BTT, and we all know what happened in the tourny.  For whatever reason, these players on this team find a way to shrink in the big moments.   12 minutes to wake up and show some pride.

Didn't the preview say let Bruesewitz shoot the 3?  Is there some kind of preview jinx where every opposing player who is encouraged to shoot in one does and proceeds to make them all?

Before the game, who would have thought Michigan would have more rebounds but more turnovers and less assists than Wisconsin at this point?  My mind is unable to process this game.  Its like a train wreck - I cannot look away.

For the first time in forever we keep running the set after the ball gets back to Burke and what do you know, he finds somebody open at the rim for a layup.

If it were me I think I'd call about a five-minute moratorium on ball screens. Make these guys play defense, make our guys stop standing around.

10 point lead early with Wisconsin shooting like shit, and UM still couldn't pull ahead.

It's like the Purdue game where we saw a 12 point lead go to a 12 point deficit.

Now, WIsconsin is hitting 3s, and it's going to take a great finish to win this. Frustrating.

I have said it for years he is to passive and recruits theeballers live by it die by. It will always end this way if he remains the coach

has done with the program

but

For an offensive minded coach, how come our guys seem so nonchalant, make bad shot selections, can't hit lay-ups, can't make FT's, we don't box out well, don't rebound well even when we have more guys under the basket, so many things that frustrate me

I think a lot of this comes down to the reliance on so much two-man-game, something Beilein's never done before as far as I know. It's effective as far as it goes, but it leaves the other three guys standing around. And when you spend a lot of every game standing around, it's hard not to look nonchalant, miss easy shots, take bad shots when you finally have the opportunity to.

His sets aren't supposed to work on the first two passes every time--the whole point is to keep working it for 15 or 20 seconds if you have to, to reverse the ball two or three times and give the defense a chance to tire and get off balance or out of position and then your athletic guys can take them, or you get an open shot for one of your shooters.

And if you get to late clock and nothing's developed there's still time to go to the ball screen or isolation for Burke if you have to.

I don't think this is a mystery to anyone on the staff--Belein's comment before halftime was "we need to stop taking the first shot we see", Dakich's comment just prior was that the ball doesn't get swung enough to ever create a good shot. But I don't think anyone realized how hard it would be to undo, once it set in.
