Reminder: Punch your ticket to Auburn Hills

Michigan is highly likely to end up with a 2 or 3 seed and, in that scenerio, they would end up in Auburn Hills.

You can buy all three sessions - 4 games on Thursday and 2 on Saturday - or you can purchase single sessions.  I chose to buy the Saturday session, banking that our guys aren't going to allow a repeat of last year.....

I issue this reminder, not necessarily because I want to sit next to any of you yahoos, but because there is also a very high liklihood that MSU will also be slotted in Auburn Hills.  If you wait until Monday or even Sunday night to buy your tickets, it will probably be too late..... and I don't really care to have the Palace full of a bunch of MSU fans cheering for whoever Michigan plays against.  You know that's exactly what the majority of them will do.

So....  don't let that happen.... buy your ticket..... spread the word.

What about if I bought tickets to Indy for the sweet 16 or elite 8? Was that a little too premature thinking we were the #1 overall seed? Oh well I guess I'll just yell at Dwight Schrute all weekend.

Do we know for sure that we'll be slotted in Auburn Hills if we end up as a third seed?

I bought my tickets early in February...and just want to be able to use them!

What helps is that there are also games in Dayton, Lexington, Kansas City, and Philadelphia.  Any higher ranked team that might have "seniority" would be geographically closer to one of those.

I'd start to worry if we got bumped to a 4..... please don't lose to Penn State again.

Would that put Michigan in Indy if they make it to the Sweet 16?  I'd love to see them but I'm not going to buy tickets if they won't end up there.

Can someone explain to me how this works? Based on Lunardi's Projected Bracket, only the 6-11 and 3-14 games, in both the South and the West brackets, are going to be played at the Palace. So if we somehow get bumped to a 2 seed after the BTT, or drop to a 4, why would we still be in Auburn Hills?

Anyone who can explain this to me would be doing me a big favor, I can only afford to buy tickets if Michigan's going to be playing at the Palace.

Michigan might remain a 3 if they lose to Penn State, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them fall to a four.

They also might get to Auburn Hills as a 4 but I have no confidence in that happening.

If you want to be safe, tickets aren't going to sell out before tomorrow evening if you want to wait until after the game.  If Michigan wins, buy your tickets and feel good about it.

want to hear anymore about this lose to Penn State stuff.  We are gonna bash them.  And then we are going to bash Wisconsin.  Not by couple of points, but to the extent that they will feel thoroughly bashed.

If Arizona and Florida win their conference tournament as projected, they could slide up.  What if Oklahoma State/Kansas State, Syracuse/Marquette, or Wisconsin win their conference tourneys?  They are all projected 4 and 5 seeds who aren't projected to win their conference tournament.  If any of them do, the seedings will shake up.  If a team has to slide down, it might be the team who ended the season on the worst loss.

Perhaps you are right.  Perhaps they remain a 3 even with a loss, but I won't feel good about it until the seedings are announced.

Each site has 2 pods of 4 for the "first round" and "second rounds".  Teams are kept as close to home as possible with the better seeds getting priority.  The pods will adjust based on the teams, so if Michigan were to move to a two seed that whole pod would move to the 2-15, 7-10 games. It's not a guarantee Michigan will be in Auburn Hills, but it is highly likely given their high seed probability and not a ton of better options close by.

I will give you my best understanding - hope it helps. If you are a top 4 seed, you are the best team in your pod i.e. during your first couple of games in the tournament - therefore you would be given relative home field advantage during the first two rounds. It just so happens that both M and MSU happen to be 3 seeds in the bracket you referred to but the location of either game would not change if the teams fall to a 4 or rise to a 2 or 1. After the first two games, the sweet sixteen and elite eight game locations are selected to help the number 1 seed in that region i.e. east for duke or west for gonzaga. If we need to end up in the Midwest, our best chance would be to either be seeded higher than Indiana and MSU or for Kansas/Louisville to be seeded higher than both those teams and for us to be a two seed in the Kansas/Louisville bracket.

One will be a 2 seed and the other a 3 seed. Even if it's determined that both "should" be 3 seeds, they try to keep teams close to home (especially the top team in their pods, so 1-4 seeds), so they'll most likely adjust to take that into account.

There will be two separately ticketed doubleheaders on Thursday and another on Saturday. 
 

One of the Thursday doubleheaders will most likely start somewhere between noon and 12:45.  The second Thursday doubleheader will most likely start between 6:45 and 7:45 pm.  Michigan and MSU will not be in the same doubleheader on Thursday.  The time for each game will be announced Sunday evening, usually a couple hours after the selection show.

The Saturday doublheader for the advancing teams could start anywhere between noon and 7 pm.  If Michigan wins, the time of its game on Saturday typically would not be announced until late on Thursday.

it would be early games.  The other sites that will host on Thursday/Saturday are in:

  • Lexington, KY
  • Salt Lake City, UT
  • San Jose, CA

I suspect Auburn Hills and Lexington will have the early games and Salt Lake City and San Jose will have the later games.

So on Saturday, do both games occur close together? For example, if Team x plays Team y at 12:30, does the following game begin not too long after the first game is completed? Or is the second game sometime later that evening, like at 7? I am speaking for both games at the Palace.

I think Wisconsin is probably too low right now to worry about them taking Michigan's spot in Auburn Hills.  There are two potential spots in Auburn Hills - MSU likely gets one.  Worry about Marquette - as they could stake a claim.

As for Lexington and Dayton - those places are likely going to be hosting the winners of the play-in sites.  I've seen Lunardi project other places as hosting the winners of the play-in games but the distance simply doesn't make it likely.
