If you had...

to, for some terrible, terrible reason, turn in your Michigan Fan card and adopt some other college football program as your own, who would it be?

I would like to pick either Wisconsin or PSU because for some reason I have always liked those programs, but it would be to tragic to have to root against Michigan every year.

I think I would untimately hop on the Texas bandwagon. They seem to have a clean program, and generally have fairly classy players. Their coach seems like a nice guy. You don't hear a ton of crap about their fans. Good tradition, average stadium. Great rivalry game with OU. Also under consideration would be Georgia Tech or Virginia Tech.

Texas first, Ga Tech as well, PSU. Huh. I cribbed your list. Great minds and all that.

Oh, I'd add Univ. of Washington. Honestly. Maybe Wisconsin.

Probably a team that is constantly terrible. That way any win would be cause for celebration, and a loss wouldn't make me feel sick to my stomach for a few days.

Big Ten - PSU - agree, even if their fans are a little out of control wrt distaste for Michigan.

Big East - Before Jihad I, WVU. Now, UConn, up from I-AA.

Pac 10 - Cal - agree

Big 12 N - Iowa State (family ties on mom's side way back)

Big 12 S - Texas

ACC A - Wake Forest (a number of friends attended)

ACC C - NC (family ties)

WAC - Hawai'i

SEC - Vanderbilt (an oasis in a swamp of obnoxious)

MWC - Colorado State (my baby sister goes there)

Is it like Us Vs The Panhandle AND WE FUCKING HATE THEM! I mean, the University of South Florida sounds like it might be as tough as the University of the Northwest Territories (only warmer). High school on steroids?

I heard you get a"D" in science at USF if you have tan lines. Is that true?

I don't get why everybody thinks Texas is so clean? They've had slews of arrests, guns, weed and it's even become a joke to talk about how many pot heads they have on their team. (I'm surrounded by both UT and A&M alums and even the UT guys don't deny the excessive involvement w/ the police - down here they are regarded much like how we think of OSU...).

Personally I'd go w/ TCU if I had to - have a good coach, seem to play at least 1 big name every year so you'd have a chance to pull an upset and, at least lately, they've been pretty good. They also at least have some history with 2 NC's and players like Sammy Baugh, Davey O'Brian and LT.

Nebraska. Iowa and Wisconsin as runners-up. I need a rich, old-school tradition and a midwest location. Good academics are a plus, but I can't bring myself to cheer for ND what with Weis and the whole Catholocism thing. Northwestern has so little fan support that it seems like it'd be boring to be a fan of theirs. Otherwise they'd be up there, too.

Honestly, nobody. I don't really root for any other team in any other sport, amateur or professional. There are certain teams I like to see win, but no one I really care about all that much.

PSU, the U, 'Bama.

For whatever reason I always cheer for teams with tradition outside of ND (yes even OSU). It makes college football more fun when the "powers" are powerful.

Side note: this is why I am in favor of a playoff. Just the thought of something like this actually playing out...

1. Michigan
8. Texas

4. USC
5. OSU

6. The U
3. 'Bama

7. FSU
2. Oklahoma

...gets me all giddy.

I've always loved LSU, having them as my second favorite team to Michigan.

Their coach is a Michigan man +1
Decent Historical Tradition +1
Unique Uniforms +1
Incredible Gameday Experience +1
Excellent Recent Success +1
Great Tailgating Food +1
Awesome Tiger Mascot +1
Incredible Recruiting Base +1
SEC School that can beat up on FLA, Bama and TN +1
Southern Hospitality +1
Hot, Easy, Southern Girls +1
Nice Football Weather (in the fall at least) +1

I've always liked LSU, which might be attributed to the fact that Louisiana is my favorite state (after Michigan.) Have always liked it down there, which makes LSU my second favorite team behind Michigan

LSU is the number two team in my house, as Mrs. 60 is an alum and native. Never been to a game in Death Valley, but if the tailgating food is as good as the rest of the food down there, it's worth more than +1.

Otherwise, I could probably become a Maryland fan if I worked at it. I can't bring myself to list another Big 10 school but will say I've been to plenty of Penn State games and never had a problem rooting for the home team when there wasn't a Wolverine on the other side of the line.

I suppose admiring LSU from afar makes some sense but truly they have one of the most ignorant, myopic and redneck fanbases around. I live in New Orleans and everything is LSU all the time.

Since they are the only competitive D-1 school in the state (Tulane being the other D-1 but non-competitive school) everyone is an LSU fan, and they get face-twistingly confused if you live in Louisiana and don't support LSU. People speak of Wal-Mart Wolverines but b/c of LSU's position in Louisiana the WHOLE STATE is nothing but Big Lots Bengals.

Their support is not of the mgoblog variety, they have little historical perspective on anything and generally know very little outside of SEC football. I've had LSU fans tell me that Tennessee has the biggest stadium in the country and that LSU is a much more prestigious program than Michigan.

As far as the redneck stuff goes: I was at the LSU-Tulane game last year, wearing a Tulane sweatshirt and some LSU fan got in front of me and my friend and asked us why we had Tulane stuff. We told him we were alums, he said: "What are ya, a bunch of Jews?!" I hate LSU.

Fresno State, my hometown college ball team. Maybe Cal, as it is likely where I would have gone if I hadn't moved to Michigan.

Georgia Tech (b/c Paul Johnson impresses me), Oregon (love the crazy approach to an inherently conservative sport) and Texas Tech (the Dread Pirate of Lubbock is to clever and nutty not to like).

edit: Whoops, forgot to type a word. Go me.
