Mich/Indy Predictions

Big game today at Crisler for the home finale against Hoosiers at 4pm CBS.   Michigan returns home and has a chance with a win today to bring home their second consecutive big ten title.   The crowd should be electric for this one and with students back could be crazy.  Its senior day for some of the guys that have been instrumental in the process.  If Burke wins and plays very well today no question he should be the national player of the year.   The frosh always seem to play a lot better at home and we have Morgan back for this one which is big.  I think Mich gets it done today and gets a win.

Already 600+ Maize Rage members in line. And the bleachers only seat 388! There were 200ish in line at 3am. Crowd's gonna have to come out in full force tonight, but I think Burke goes off and shows up Oladipo for POY.

Michigan - 77

Indiana - 73

My only prediction is that the game will be ridiculously close from start to finish. I don't expect a whole lot of leads on either side to be greater then 4 or 5 points

It's not a prediction but it is a hope that Inidana gets to "enjoy" some B1G official home-town love for our boys just like they ALWAYS get at Assembly Hall.  If Creen got a technical from yelling at the refs it would warm the cockles of my heart.

Fuck Indiiana. Fuck Tom Creen. Fuck Victor Olidipo for POY and fuck their stupid candy-striped warmups.

Here's a quick stat comparison for conference play:

Offensive Stat Comparison
  Indiana Michigan
Points/Game 74.7 72.1
Avg Score Margin 10.7 6.8
Assists/Game 12.5 13.3
Total Rebounds/Gm 35.5 33.5
Effective FG % 53.4% 53.3%
Off Rebound % 37.3% 30.8%
Defensive Stat Comparison
  Indiana Michigan
Opp Points/Game 64 65.3
Opp Effective FG % 44.8% 49.1%
Off Rebounds/Gm 11.7 10.1
Def Rebounds/Gm 23.8 23.4
Blocks/Game 3.7 2.4
Steals/Game 6.9 6.6

It won't shock anyone perhaps that this game was left as a Pick Em by many sites, but Massey did adjust our estimated win probability upward slightly to 56% (up from 55%, so not much). I have to think this one comes down a a possession or two either way, but the optimist in me will go with a 78-74-ish Michigan win that hopefully would involve getting Zeller out of their transition offense now and again, effective guarding of Olidapo and some opportunistic stops. That, and if we can exploit some of the things that Wisconsin and a few other teams did, like Indiana's trouble with the pick-and-roll, then we could slow them down enough to get past them today.

Not exactly a high-confidence pick either way by the numbers, but nontheless, beat the Hoosiers

I predict Jordan Hulls won't miss a three point f**king shot.  God that kid drives me nuts.  I agree with the above that if we can contain Zeller and limit his presence, I'm personally hoping for some physicality from our guys that's shown to quiet him down, and limiting Oladipo from going on a tear, we have a shot (not to sound so cynical).  Watford is a key player as well; GRIII struggled with him first time around, I once again hope that he's learned a thing or two on how to handle his style of play.  I also predict that they shoot more free throws than us; they better not go ~90% again, though.

My head is ready for this game, I think, but I'm not so sure my heart is; God this is going to be stressful and intense!  Go Blue.

I don't do well with those in big games, and this one's a BIG game.

Only prediction I'll make is that Jordan Morgan will be the difference-maker.  He barely played at IU; he's full-strength and ready to go now.  There's a huge +++difference +++ for us on both ends of the floor when he'sout there.

We are either going to win by 2-5 points or lose by 15-20 points.  We have two versions of our basketball team.  It all depends on which one shows up in the first 5 minutes of the game.

Morgan's presence is noticed on the D end, as Zeller scores only 12 points

Stauskas returns to form and lights up Jordan Hulls for 22 points

Oladipo has a stong game with 18 points and 3 steals, all on Timmy, but...

Trey seals the player of the year award, scoring only 15 points, but dishing out 12 assists and 2 steals.

Score: M - 79, IU - 71

Beilein will find a way.

But in all seriousness, whether or not we win depends on which version of our team shows up. I'm just so happy this game is at home. I hope the noise from Maize Rage just blows the roof off the place.

Beilein has said that Robinson is one of the smartest freshmen he's ever coached...he won't make the same mistakes twice and will neutralize Watford.  Hardaway will bring a heart bigger than Ann Arbor but he'll be too anxious to make a difference and risks foul trouble.  LeVert will be asked to log meaninful minutes and won't disappoint.  McGary will make a couple of early plays that inspire a confident game while Morgan quietly logs the most effective overall minutes.  Somebody better be talking to Stauskas about defensive discipline or we will see him multiple times darting through by the no-man's land sign waving his arms in the air.

And then there will be Burke.  In the depths of the Penn State loss the instructions were written.  I look for him to be gazing up towards the sky in a joy filled scream of confirmation as he inches closer to what he believes he was meant to be.  THE LEADER AND THE BEST.

There's a few glaring things going against the good guys today:

1) More pressure to step up at home on Senior Day & jitters for the freshmen especially with the ultra significance of today's game

2) I believe Indiana will be more relaxed, even in a hostile environment, than they were against O$U on their Senior Day

3) The proverbial "you have to learn from losing in big games with Championships on the line before you can win" comes into play here for this young team.

Prediction:

IU - 78

UM - 70

They play basketball at 4pm. It's gonna happen... Mark my words. As for what happens during that game, Michigan's has been rather inconsistent throughout the year so I have no idea what the score could be.

1. Trey will score > 15.

2. Stauskas will be called "not just a shooter."

3. Bobby Knight will throw a chair.

4. Sparty will burn couches.

Bonus: Wisconsin will beat PSU on a last-second buzzer-beater 63-60.
