Shop Class: Michigan State Comment Count

Ace

One of the great things about this here blog is the user-generated content. After the Michigan State game the board came though with a photoshop thread inspired by Melanie Maxwell's great shot of Trey Burke's steal. This, in turn, has inspired a new regular feature—"Shop Class"—where we'll highlight the best work from these threads (and I'll throw my hat into the ring, as well).

Let's start with one of the many variations of that Maxwell shot, this one posted by hail2thevict0r, who maximized the Appling shadenfreude:

In a similar vein, BlueBarron was reminded of a meme of yore—though I'd imagine the Spartans were quite impressed, actually:

Brian's front-page commentary led to my own effort:

If you're all welped out, I made an alternate version with just Burke's laughter.

[Hit THE JUMP for the, er, inspired(?) work of resident gif wizard chunkums and more.]

The latest work of chunkums—the man who brought you Taylor's Twosie Punchout gif—is, well, it's something:

Yeah.

The board also brought back this previous chunkums effort, featuring 100% less poop:

Izzo was also on the wrong end of this creation by TatersGonnaTate:

Finally, Blazefire revealed Burke's post-game celebration:

Stellar work, everyone. As said above, we plan on making this a recurring feature, so keep posting your photoshops and gifs on the board or send them to me via Twitter or email and they could be featured on the front page.

This is tremendous.  It should definitely be a weekly thing.  My selfish advice is to make it a Friday thing since those are generally slower days.  Twitterverse and Shop Class could make Fridays epic!

I definitely don't think this is front page material. It's low class and beneath the standards of this site, particularly the fecal themed photoshop.

Hmmm. My post does come off as a little holier than thou, but I really am embarrassed by this. If RCMB posted a poop themed photoshop with Appling and Beilein, I'm guessing the reaction wouldn't be "this is great!"

You are probably right that if RCMB did a photoshop like that one it would be made fun of on this blog. The diffrence is that most of the things over there is pretty low brow while this is the exception to the rule on mgoblog. Every once in a while it is ok to have some elementary school humor. I think it is funny as hell.

Word. I do appreciate the effort to bring a multimedia flavor to the site via OFAAT, Seth's Highlights post and, to a lesser extent, TWIT. Obviously, I'm in the minority, but I like to exude my Michigan Arrogance with a clear conscience. Poop Gifs make that a wee bit harder, in my opinion.  That said, Chunkums is clearly a talented individual.

I do not find poop hilarious, either.  But I'm a woman.  We will never get why pooping or farting is funny.

I do find Lloyd Brady draped over anyone quite hilarious.  Or facepalm guy.  The one where Appling's face was everywhere was quite funny, too...  Also, anything with the angry coaches from Nebraska and Wisconsin.  Pelini and Ryan.  They get so mad!  Good stuff.

I'm not sure who pissed in Colin M's Wheaties, but I think this is hilarious. I missed this thread after the game. I think it's a great idea for a regular series.

My main concerns are:

1) Dear Diary has done an excellent job of linking threads that are worth reading, and every past photoshop thread has been included (Seth feel free to tell me I'm wrong). If images start appearing on Twitter, it is assumed they will either be reposted into threads here (to then be linked by Dear Diary), picked up by BiSB in TWIT, or posted by Brian in UV. Compiling them into Shop Class may already be unnecessary unless this issue spurs MOAR PHOTOSHOPZ. In which case...

2) Quality may be lost from the quantity of recurring this issue. Sometimes images just beg to be photoshopped that produce downright brilliant results (see Taylor's Twosie, the phenomenon that is Lloyd Brady, Brian Photobomb, etc), and if this issue helps highlight more images like those I am 100% in support. I mainly hope that our collective standards of which images deserve to be photoshopped, MS Paint'd, captioned, meme'd or GIF'd don't lower just to create more content.

Still, Chunkums and Blazefire still do great work, and I like highlighting it if it's as good as what's in this post. Should be interesting to see this issue going forward.
