Edit: The Indiana Goes Down @ Home to Ohio State...We Have a Chance...Beat Purdue Thread

Submitted by B-Nut-GoBlue on

Big potential looms large tonight (for those of you on the Moon, the potential is that we still have a shot at a Big Ten Title if Indiana loses tonight and we beat them Sunday, AFTER beatin Purdue tomorrow night).  We essentially become big Ohio State fans for the second year in a row.  They can pull it off, but will they?  Tune in at 9:00 on the Big Ten Network brought to you by Rotel and "I've got your 6", and find out.  EDIT: Ignore that garbage, it's on ESPN.  Sowwy.

Iowa has Illinois at home, as we speak.  This would have been a huge game for Iowa if they hadn't lost to Nebraska last week.  Now it's merely, meh-big.  Doug Gotlieb (spelling?) now on CBS Sports, has Iowa as a Last Four In; he's the only one (except for possbily me, if they can win two BTT games).

Duke at Virginia Tech, as we speak.

Arkansas at Mizzou, as we speak (if anyone is interested in Arkansas).  Arkansas is a Bubble Team to many analysts.  This would be a big Win for them.

Ugh.  Go Buckeyes.

If they had a realistic shot at winning this game, I would be all "OHIO! FUCK YEAH,"  but them winning this game is about at realistic as Rory Mcllroy's wisdon tooth excuse, so they can go to hell.

I get what you mean but if Minnesota and Illinois can do it, for some reason you really think Ohio St. has no chance?  Too one-dimensional or what's your reasoning?

I think you should re-evaluate thinking Ohio State doesn't have a realistic chance.  They certainly can win, especially given their impressive play over the last 3.  We needed them to step up big and down No. 5 MSU last year in the finale, no reason they couldn't do the same.

Now, if you want to say it's not likely, well, I agree with you there for sure.  OSU probably won't win, but then again I didn't think that Illinois would beat Indiana, nor Minnesota, ah, who knows.

I do find it's pretty fun to watch basketball that your team isn't directly involved in, much easier to enjoy the actual game.

I don't think they have any shot to win this game.  I would love it if they did, but Indiana took Ohio a loooooong way behind the shed, in Columbus, when the crowd was all "da-da,dadada,da," and tOSU was on a semi-roll.  I'm sorry, this is the finale this year at Assembly Hall.  Thomas is good but there is just not enough there. They simply can't score with IU.  I put the probability at 3.7%, and that is being generous.

They too can with this. OSU had the ball and at least a chance to tie at the end of games at Duke, Michigan (in OT), and Michigan State.

you misunderstood my posts above.  I was trying to say that I thought Ohio was a darn good basketball team and had a very good shot to go into Assembly and roll Indiana on Senior Night.  I don't know what you were reading, but I think I was pretty clear on this point.  ;)

Yeah, I want to put my 2 cents in on that event.  Last wednesday I had my wisdom teeth out, they were all impacted.  That following saturday and sunday I played in a golf tournament, and was in tons of pain, hammered up on pain killers, and it was almost beyond me just to walk straight.

IF McIlroy is telling the truth, which I think he is, I have full symapthy for him, and I think that it is very realisitc that the tooth could have affected his game like that.

I have no idea why people don't respect OSU's hoop team; if these guys are making some shots they are as good as anyone, AS THEIR RECORD SHOWS.

BTW--*UCK DUKE.

It's not likely but kenpom has them at about 20%. I mean, if Indiana can lose at home to Wisconsin, if we can lose to Penn State, Kansas to TCU etc etc. It's not like 1%, OSU is still a good team. Crazy things can happen in one college basketball game.

As much as I want a share of that big ten Championship a OSU loss would really help up with seeding for the BIG Ten tornament so it really is a situation where you have to look and say which one benefits us more.  But because I hold on to every last inch of hope I want OSU to win and pray we win out would be lovely to share it again.

Almost as bad as Ohio vs Duke.  I didn't have enough hate in my body so I couldn't watch.  For this one I'll give it a go but in no way will I root for that team.  3 overtimes would make me very happy.

I'll never get the Duke hatred. Is it because they're always good? Search for "Krzyzewski controversy" on Google. He runs what appears to be a squeaky clean program that wins a ton of games and tends to graduate its players at much higher rates than other NCAA basketball powers.

I hate that they beat the Fab 5 too, but that's the only reason I can think of to hate Duke.

It's actually a great place to live, if you want gritty/authentic plus college amenities (concerts, coed scenery, university facilities, etc.) with a stellar food and art scene. But a college town it ain't. Chapel Hill is much more of a college town....it's Ann Arbor's Southern Mini-Me. My judgement based on growing up my first 20+ years in A2, last almost 20 in Durham (but with family still in Ann Arbor).

For what it's worth, Massey estimates that Ohio State has an 18% chance of winning, and most sites give are picking Indiana as a favorite by 7-8 points.

Here are some of the highlights from TeamRankings' stat comparison, which uses the whole season, not just conference play:

Offensive Stat Comparison

Total Rebounds/Gm 35.9   39.0
Effective FG % 50.9%   56.2%
Off Rebound % 32.0%   38.8%
Defensive Stat Comparison

OHST IND

When the teams played in Columbus, OSU got killed.  Also, OSU is 0-5 against ranked teams on the road this year.

I don't think there's a chance in hell they win this game.

I don't understand the popular "Hoke is geographically challenged" notion amongst the people who perpertuate it daily by shouting at one another for help spelling the very thing they stand against.

Go Ohio.
