Request: The Floor Slapping Sequence

Submitted by Mannix on
In reading through the post game thread and the snowflakes thread, a few requests (including my own) for the sequential Sparty floor slap and the subsequent Burkian floor slap were made.
I was wondering if anyone had come across that in gif or video.

From Nix: "We did it a lot my freshman year, but we do it more this year than any year I've been here," Nix said. "We did it more this year because that's what we pride ourselves on. "Not saying that other (Spartans) teams didn't, but when it's time to sit down, that's what time it is. It's just a discipline thing. It's a feel that everybody else on the court does. Once it's time to slap the floor, they knew we're about to sit down."

The first time he slaps the floor and I can still feel it. He even gets back up and walks towards the Michigan PG like "GAME ON, BITCH!"

...also I saw the 3 Michigan players do it, but I didn't notice that one was Robinson. That's pretty big because he's the last person you'd expect to do this (Stauskas #1 by a long shot).

Anyway, I'd love to get a zoom on Burke's first slap and reaction.

The problem with all this is after that timeout, State promptly cut down our 8-point lead and tied the game. If you're going to slap the floor, you actually have to play the defense. The much better response is just scoring in their face after they do the floor slap.

Boo. That misses my favorite part of the floor-slapping sequence: Burke getting a layup after all the Spartans slapped the floor, and then Morgan slapping the floor after it went in.

(Nothing against you. I know you just embedded the BTN highlights, so someone else editted that part out. So boo them.)

Hate to say it, but I don't think so. It's something I was thinking about all game.

I think this game really exposed Nik as our main defensive weakness (along with the hedges of non-Morgan big men). Nik gets beat too often off the dribble and forces other guys to help, leading to a lot of our defensive breakdowns. State definitely didn't have as many open looks (especially in half court) as our opponents have had in the last month or so.

I think LeVert needs to get some more minutes, which will hopefully lead to his offense becoming a bit more refined and maybe it will give Stauskas some fresher legs as well.

You may be right, but I would venture to guess that Stauskas would have hit a few threes as well. He wouldn't have been guarding Harris or Appling, so any points he gave up in this game probably would have been eclipsed by his offense.

Lavert was solid, though. Especially for a true freshman who came in way under the radar.

I think Stauskas getting pegged as our big weakness defensively is not really fair. He leads us in +/- average and has been in the positive in every game except for @OSU and @MSU

In comparison Lavert in 20 games played has been in the negetive 5 times and zero 3 times

You're not really comparing apples to apples by looking at straight +/-. Lavert's minutes come more when the other backups are in so his +/- is probably a bit deflated and Stauskas' inflated b/c he plays with all the starters more. Besides, none of us needs this stat to see all the times Stauskas has gotten beaten too easily or failed to rotate quickly to help.

to know what Izzo said to Hardaway when it looked like Hardaway went over to listen to Izzo and Appling.

Michigan got in their heads a little, unfortunately it may have lit the fire for their comeback in the last 4 minutes.

I'll take the win, but let's also remember we almost choked this game away by allowing a 10 pt lead to be cut to 3 in 90 seconds. Burke saved the day on a great steal, that probably had a little to do with Appling not being secure and Burke/coaches noticing a tendency in film/play. The win feels great, but I'm still nervous about the tournament.

"Once it's time to slap the floor, they knew we're about to sit down."

That's funny, my dog likes to spin in a circle twice before he sits down. I didn't realize he meant he was about to defend the shit out of me.

Sparty should not steal things from Duke.  I've met Duke (recalling something like a Duke 24-0 opening on UM at Cameron a decade ago) and Sparty you are no Duke.

If anyone has enough free time to splice MSU's clapping to the Miley Cyrus Boom boom clap, boomdee claptee clap song. Then our clapping to Queen's "We Will Rock You." That would be great.  Disclaimer: I have 3 girls and thus am in the know of the Miley Cyrus song.

for those of us with blocked video streaming at our offices, is this in Gif format yet somewhere? Or do I just have to wait for Ace to make OFAAT?  There should be a ton of great stuff for that this week.

It reminds me of when Spartans hold up the 4 fingers for the 4th quarter during that winning streak we had over them, as if they actually would finish in the 4th.

Gives a piss poor floor slap which allows his man to alley oop on the next possession.

Sparty really needs to practice this drill this week.  It's a glaring weak spot and will expose them come tourney time.
