Michigan Basketball vs. MSU Open Thread
But we are much better on defense with them in the game
state relying on the 3? surprising offense thus far
Hour ford has no idea what he's doing
Horford
I hate that MSU's bigs can go over the back and push all over without getting fouls called.
Get Horford out of there. What was that??!!! Was he even looking to rebound???
Can't hit threes. By the way, thanks for play horford
That was an interesting approach to the box out by horford
Refs making their presence felt already
WHAT IS HE DOING THERE? Box out and watch the hoop a little
michigan cant seem to get a call
what else is new tho
Surprising for me is 16 points in paint for us to 2 not. If we maintain a semblance of an inside presence and our jumpshot kicks in, nice.
Pts in paint. Not from our posts
Albrecht feels spazzy to me.
Robinson making plays!!!
diggin' on Spike, good stuff
I don't understand why our defense calls for sending our bigs out past the 3 point line so freaking much. Makes no sense to me.
I'm trying to make sense of it too and the only thing I can think of is that we're trying to get bigger/taller men in front of their players shooting for a 3, hoping some actually don't go in hah.
Can't figure this one out either. It's frustrating and has left so many opposing teams with wide open shots
There's basically four ways (in my opinion) to defend the ball screen.
1. Go underneath it. Never done at a high level because a PG can just pull up for an easy three.
2. Hard trap it. If a team knows it is coming, a good point guard can easily make you pay by splitting it, passing out of it early, etc etc. Many ways to beat it.
3. Hedge and recover. Most teams, including us, will hedge and recover. The hedge forces the ball handler far enough out that the big man can recover to his man.
4. Switch. Rarely a good idea with exceptional guards going against big men.
I like Spike a lot. When he's a senior, I think he will be amazing.
Yet, I want him running the offense usually - not shooting without passing twice in a row.
Man is Payne good. Probably a B10 1st teamer. I'd like to see us attack him a bit on offense.
Agree - hope he goes pro next year.
Probably the most improved player I've seen in the B1G this year, living up to the pedigree he came to EL with. We've got to keep him off the 3pt line.
Same old shit.
why can't we get defensive rebounds.
Is not NBA yet.
No Trey = No offense
this game will not end well unless that changes. Box out and hustle need to increase a lot, and soon.
That needed to change 5 games ago.
This week on "Stats that will regress to the mean": MSU 50% from 3, UM 0%.
Stauskas back to a standing ovation!
I have to remember how young they are. There is a lot of talent on this team, but not enough hustle. Makes me miss Novak
Good energy but poooooor defensive blocking out. Payne will cool off but let's hope Harris doesn't replace that scoring.
I know the students are on spring break and this comment isn't directed at this game. Why don't we put the benches on the other side of the court and jam pack the other side with students like Duke does?
We have to have the most dysfunctional student section in basketball and it annoys me.
Trey needs to take better shots on 3's, Horford needs to start improving at some point, maybe put Max in instead sometimes
We can't afford three or four minutes of spike today.
you'd think guys would try and distinguish themselves by hustling more
Where the hell was the foul on that alley-oop?
Holy shit I wish they'd miss a 3.
Just me or did McGary get wiped out on that oop attempt?
Not you
Getting tired of our 3-point defense
Mitch must have stones for hands
What a line up out there right now. Wow.
Defensive effort.
Gawd our D is awful..
MSU shooting 56% from the 3 while outrebounding us 2:1 won't end well, so hope that changes soon.
got to reel them back in and get some momentum back. This team is too young to be down 10 at the half. Let's get er going
