Tailgating at the Golf Course

Submitted by MGoPoncho on
Hey all--

been a big fan of the site for a few years, but this is my 1st post (hence diary, and not MgoBoard).  With ND and Jimmah coming to town, I wanted to see what the tailgate experience was for WMU at the golf course.

If enforced as advertised, the new rules ("For safety and efficiency, vehicles will be directed to specific spaces as they enter the grounds. Group parking at a favorite spot will no longer be allowed") definitely SUCK.  But what Im wondering for this week is:

1. How strict was the "no group parking?"  i.e. did people have to caravan literally back to back so they could get spots together?
2. Did the line into the course actually move any faster?
3. Any other tidbits/advice from last week's tailgaters on the new rules and bending them?
4. On 4th and inches at the 34, will Coach Weis opt for Pizza Hut or Arbys?  The hut has cheese in the crust, but... there's horsey sauce.

I for one remain very angry and frustrated that the golf course has resorted to this kind of cheapery. But there still must be some creative ways we can circumvent their greed and revel like its 2007.

I parked there this past weekend for the first time. So the new rules really did not bother me, but I know there were a few people around me that were upset because they had to go looking for the friends. Many of the groups around me just followed each other nose to tail so they must have know ahead of time about the rule change. Being my first time there I really enjoyed the atmosphere as it seemed to be a younger crowd where I got parked. I plan on parking there again this week weather permitting.

I was a long time tailgater at AAGO and this game was a trial run to see if I'd ever park there again. I was a member of a longtime tailgating group and we had a specific spot we all individually parked at in our spot. To my suprise they weren't complete Nazis with how we parked contrary to what they made it sound like they would be. In fact they did let you save a spot for someone if they were getting there in the first 5 min or so and you could pick where you wanted to park at in our section it just had to be in those first few rows they were filling. There was actually more room for games and more room to put your stuff up which also suprised me alot. I was very pleased and I will continue to park there. I highly recommend parking here and the enterence off main and to get there early (7:30 ish). I do believe while they killed our tradition the new rules actually made tailgating there better!

We are heading down with a group for our first tailgate of the year this Sat. Where can I find the new rules? Any tips? Should we bail on the golf course and go back to the band field area (I haven't tailgated there since law school)?

I'm also curious how parking worked. Like GoBlueMAGNUS I've parked in the same spot for years and there were quite of few of us that became neighborly, (although last names were rarely exchanged) To that end, if you're the owner of the Octabong and you used to park by the Ann Arbor Saline Rd EXIT of AAGO where Jarts was played hit me back. We had a great time with you last year and we're trying to figure out if we should move, or set up there again this year. We were the 40-50 people with the white Underground Printing vans.

I am going to the game this weekend and I was thinking about trying out the Golf course, but you really need to get there @7:30??? That seems crazy early to me! Is there any chance of getting a spot if I arrive around 11? Any help is appreciated.

Instead of saying "Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh" before kickoff...everyone start the chant as soon as we choose to recieve or kick. By the time the kickoff is ready it can be loud and heard across the nation. He needs our support, our team needs our support. They are backing him, we are backing him, the admin is NOT...so we need to make sure EVERYONE knows we DO! GO BLUE
