Piped In Music Solution
It occurred to me on the drive home today that I know the perfect solution to our stadium RAWK dilemma. We need a song that has a brief but catchy hook, makes people oddly excited, isn't bothersome to old people and most importantly isn't a cliche in every stadium in America.
So what does everyone think about Apache by Sugar Hill Gang?

What should they replace such Joe Louis Arena favorites as Journey and Sweet Caroline with??? I may puke if I hear the damn techno they play at Beaver Stadium (how do a bunch of hicks from the hills of Pennsylvania get fired up for techno???)
Didn't the L.A. Guns do a song called Big House??? Can't remember whether it sucked or not?

Shouldn't Seven Nation Army be played at Michigan Stadium because the band is from Michigan. Like the version I've heard on those ESPN soccer commercials.

No more piped in music... . Maybe during TV timeouts when the band ain't playing they can show some classic highlights on the scoreboards. I'm sure the crowd would get pumped up seeing any number of Desmond, Woodson, or Braylon highlights. Wangler to Carter, or anythings else with Ufer's voice blaring over the PA would sure rile up the oldies.
I don't think the music thing would be an issue if there was something to cheer for last season. When we continue to win, the crowd noise will take care of itself.

1 solution would be to stop complaining about it. If I remember correctly, they only played piped in music maybe 5 or 6 times. That's not much, the student section got into it, I sang along too, it was fun. Move on. It's not that big of a deal. And during the game I didn't hear a complaint from anyone anyway.

Its not a big deal, the only did it during TV timeouts when it was apparent that neither band was going to play anything.

If it really starts to aggravate people, why not commission a current undergraduate music concentrator or Music School grad student to compose original music to be piped in? That way, complaints regarding the content of the music would diminish and Michigan Stadium could claim piped-in music that is uniquely its own.

I've always thought the band should play some Yakety-sax. I suppose having that piped in would work too. After an Emu sack?

However, I really liked how last year a few members of the band, namely the drum line, would perform in the northwest corner of the field during TV timeouts. The crowd really loved it and I thought it was very entertaining. I didn't see (or hear for that matter) any band members playing in the upper part of the bowl after halftime. That has always been tradition. I wish they would bring that back.

There were a few instances where small factions of the band were playing near my section (Section 4). I'm in the lower half of the bowl (in the 20s) but I'm pretty sure I heard/saw band members behind me up toward the section tunnels.

Not sure I am a fan of the "music" yet, but I am trying to keep an open mind. But, if they are going to do it, they need a better sound system. It sounds like they are just piping it through the PA system.

but too bad they can't mic up the band to the PAS. I can't think of too many sounds I like better on a Saturday than the drumline!

Instead of saying "Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh" before kickoff...everyone start the chant as soon as we choose to recieve or kick. By the time the kickoff is ready it can be loud and heard across the nation. He needs our support, our team needs our support. They are backing him, we are backing him, the admin is NOT...so we need to make sure EVERYONE knows we DO! GO BLUE
