When will we see 2014 Recruiting Board?

Submitted by StephenRKass on

I have appreciated the articles by Ace on recruiting and offers going out. However, it would be helpful to have this information all in one place. In past years, there was a helpful tab with the recruiting board for that year. Here, for instance, is 2013's recruiting board.

Seth, or Ace, (or Brian or Heiko,) will this be done for 2014? If so, when might we expect to see this up?

The reason I ask is because with maybe 100 offers out, it is hard to keep them all straight. More than that, it is difficult to know who should be categorized as "Nefarious Eduardo." I'd love to get a better sense of who is legitimately interested in Michigan, and vice versa.

If you go over to Michigan's Scout site (LINK:  http://michigan.scout.com/a.z?s=162&p=9&c=4&yr=2014 you can see a ton of offers. However, many of these don't seem to be realistic. For example, in today's front page, Ace tells us that Michigan's chances with Quin  Blanding are "slim and none." There have been positive reports here at mgoblog on LB Prospect Berger out of Cleveland St. Ignatius, but Ohio site 11 warriors sees things differently. I still don't know whether or not we have a legit chance to land Da'Shawn Hand at Michigan.

I also am a bit unclear on how good the recruits are. Bars, Mixon, and Doles are all way down Scout's list in the meh 3 star territory. I thought all of them were better than that. EDIT:  I know that the 3 star - 4 star thing is over-played. I know all ratings are somewhat subjective, but it would be great to have help comparing recruits to each other. I'm just a fan:  if Hoke and Mattison and Borges want to accept commitments from Bars, Mixon, and Doles, that's good enough for me.

If any of you have compiled a list of say 15 - 25 recruits you think we are strongly in the running for, I'd love to see it.

TTB is great for a perspective on player evaluation, but the old recruiting board was great because it gave at least some minor opinion as to how much of a chance we have with a kid.

A lot of people don't have the inclination to read up on every recruit and would rather absorb a few here and there - knowing which ones we have a 65%+ chance at makes it a lot more manageable.

Plus, Nefarious Eduardo.

I believe the "M Block" has a list like this, as well as Steve from 247. Also, if you go to the 2014 recruiting thread at 247, a bunch of people have posted the kind of lists that you are looking for.

Finally, had I, or anyone who is not a regular poster here, created this thread, I would have been negged -100.

it is simply my biggest pet peeve with this board. Not that people can neg, but the various reasons why people neg, which are often highly subjective. It is the main reason why I don't post here very often; it is a huge detractor, even for a person who has been following this site for over four years--like me.

That is not necessarily true though. If you get negged, your comment basically gets wiped out from the thread and people have to go out of their way to see it. Hence, getting negged renders you incapable of actually contributing to the community in a meaningful way. Plus, this board is extremely peer pressure-oriented, to the extent that getting negged invariably influences the opinions of others. When someone gets negged once, they are usually negged a 2nd and 3rd time by default. So, on this particular site, it does matter.

Anyways, I'm not trying to get into an argument. So I will let it go.

Agreed - I have mine set up so that all comments are shown.

That said, I think most negged posts are done so justifiably.  This OP doesn't have many negs, but this is a topic that has been addressed a ton of times already.  Very rarely do people get a lot of negs for bad reasons.  Sometimes people make a legit comment that is just heavily disagreed with, but outside of that negs are used correctly, for the most part.

I actually did not know that that option existed. So that was a misunderstanding on my part. Nevertheless, I do think that people often get negged unjustifiably here. Overall, I think that people are simply too liberal with the downvote button. The fact that my last post got negged is a perfect example. I didn't say anything neg worthy in that post. I was simply voicing my subjective opinion, and someone decided to subjectively neg my subjective opinion. Just because you disagree with someone's opinion, does not mean that you should neg their comment. For instance, I personally disagree with you in terms of posts not getting negged unjustifiably here, but I have no desire and no reason to neg you.

Comments shouldn't "go away" until you've reached -1. I'd even say, let negs go to -100 if need be. Start at 0 and you shouldn't disappear until -3. I think if 2 people neg you, it's likely worth minimizing...if 3 people neg you, you absolutely shouldn't have made the post (unless you also have pos votes as well).

Just my two cents. In the end, one troll who loves to neg shouldn't take away your post. At least make it so 2 people have to do it.

Ever since we've gone to this current system, I've wondered why it's capped at + or - 5.  If a comment is worthy of it, let it continue on.

I guess what I'm saying is it should be more like the old system.  I know the current +/-'s don't affect your mgopoints, but at least the old system would tally points past +/-5.

Take the initiative and do it yourself. Perhaps then senior management will considering promoting you to "trusted boarder poster guy", that comes with a raise and a free lunch.

During the signing day liveblog Brian said they are working on it and they want it to be more wiki-style. Yes, I know it's already kind of a wiki but maybe the change has something to do with the site overhaul that is apparently in the works.

When will we see the 2018 Recruiting Board?  I've been sitting at my computer refreshing every 5 seconds for at least 4 weeks straight now, and I've seen absolutely no progress made.  Brian, what gives?  Seth/BiSB/Ace/Heiko/Zone Left/Magnus/Brian/Brady Hoke - anyone have any answers?  Has everyone seen the hot chick in my profile picture?  That's actually an old picture of my mom, she doesn't know I'm using it.  I just like the picture, no big deal or anything.  If any of you have compiled a list of at least 38-46 of the recruits you think we are strongly in the running for, I need to see it ASAP.  I don't want to do any research myself, so someone else who's not even employed by this website do it, thanks.  Brian, I strongly urge you to quit your job so you can make the new Recruiting Board this week because I want it.

I'd do it myself but am not qualified. I am not close enough to recruiting to know who is really serious about Michigan and who Michigan really wants.

And I was just wondering whether or when the recruiting board would go up. Not whining, nor agitating.

As for the picture, it is of my wife. And she knows I'm using it. I have been thinking of changing the avatar picture, but just haven't gotten around to it.

I actually am willing to do some of the research myself, but figured I'd ask first before doing this, so as not to reinvent the wheel. There are so many others who either know coaches or athletes themselves and thus can comment far more intelligently than I can.

But, your post does highlight the fact that I shouldn't care so much about Michigan football, and just need to relax and step back from mgoblog a bit. Thanks for that.

EDIT:  FTR, I didn't neg you. Incessant "negging" is tiresome. It doesn't really matter. I leave my filters set so I see all comments, even yours. But even though I didn't neg you, you can dial back that snark and rudeness a bit, pal.

Your list is extensive and the multiple ranking columns must take a lot of time to maintain.

Two thoughts:

1. Can the table have a position ranking for the candidates?  Take the WRs, it would be helpful to rank them based on talent so guys like Drake and Marshon are "more valuable" than Corey Holmes.

2. Include a column for likelihood of UM commitment?  Magnus roughly ranks them on TTB and it would be a starting point.  I am sure the folks with intel would comment on a running basis.
