Just buy it, it's a great watch each and every time.

Would love to see the Fab Five honored in some way in the home opener next year. Even if a banner was raised that was just jersey number '92-'94 with "Home of the Fab Five" under the years and a block M on top like the other banners.

Or don't even give them a banner, just honor them at a game. Wear the black shoes and black socks and put up a little "memorial" to them on the concourse of the Crisler Center like the House That Cazzie Built piece we always see on TV.

Yes, I do.

Thanks for your assumptions

I would love to honor two former student athletes that left our athletic program in a black hole that lasted more than a decade, especially one that has ZERO remorse for his actions.

The ethics of the NCAA rules on boosters and student athlete compensation is another discussion all together. One, at which I side with Chris Webber and Ed O'bannon. However, rules are rules.

By two, I presume you mean one, since, among the Fab Five, only CWebb was found to have run afoul of NCAA rules, along with post-Fab Five players Mo Taylor, Robert Traylor and Lou Bullock.

And, candidly, none of those guys is responsible for the hire of Brian Ellerbe, the self-immolation of the basketball program, or our journey through basketball Siberia.  Or the formerly decrepit facilities.

Lots of programs have bounced back more quickly from more severe NCAA sanctions than our basketball program did.  That we chose not to do so is not on Ed Martin's 4 bought players.

Not to say that UM was wrong to do so.  If Mary Sue Coleman doesn't badger the FBI into making Ed Martin's plea deal contingent on coming clean in the UM basketball booster case, none of this stuff comes to light.  It was the right thing to do.  But you'll also note that the state's other D1 basketball programs weren't exactly falling over themselves signing up for that same disclosure that MSC demanded (looking at you, M. Peter McPherson, Louanna K Simon, [AD] Ron Mason and Tom Izzo).

How do you know they have ZERO remorse?

Have you spoken to Chris lately?

Bonus question:

SHOULD Webber have remorse? Michigan made MILLIONS off of Webber and the Fab 5. Nike made MILLIONS off Webber and the Fab 5. The city of Ann Arbor made MILLIONS off of Webber and the Fab 5.

Me, personally, I don't care anymore...The Fab 5 wasn't what put Michigan into a black hole. It was what happened AFTER the Fab 5. If Webber and Rose take money and NO ONE afterwards does. Michigan is in a USC Football situation. Still bad, but not 10 years of hell bad. You identify all 10 years with Webber and the Fab 5 because of their celebrity. Thus you clearly don't know what you're taking about and you have no foundation for your opinion.

There will be a banner that says just 'Fab Five', but only after Webber apologizes to the University of Michigan for stealing Bill Cosby's sweater.

If you visit this blog with any regularity and you haven't seen the Fab 5 documentary yet...you NEED to see it. Get your popcorn ready...it may change your life.

Before the Penn State game they put a video on the scoreboards for the Crisler Rededication.  It was going through each era of Michigan basketball and they skipped right over the Fab Five.  Might be an insight into how the administration view the idea of a banner/appearance.

It's interesting to go back through the stats from 1991-92 and 1992-93 and see the sorts of numbers the Fab Five put up, and whenever this is on, I seem to find myself doing that. In those two seasons, they managed an effective FG% of 53.8% as a unit, which would put them in the Top 20 of Division I if they played today. Together in those seasons, they combined for 1,969 rebounds and 885 assists as well as 4,415 points (which is about 63 points per game as a group).

The documentary really is a good watch, if you have not yet seen it.

God I want to win it all just so we can move past the Fab Five.

They were exciting and great, but also a black stain on the school. And they didn't win any championships which - say what you will - is significant.

I'm just ready for the past to be the past.

On another note, it would be interesting to see a true documentary on the story - I'm not saying this is biased, but it was put together by an involved party.

Christ, quit acting all so high and mighty, like a National Championship is all that matters. What Chris did is nothing to be proud of, but everyone makes bad choices.

Its widely believed he took the money after his last Michigan ball game, and before the draft. He didn't do drugs, booze and drive, assault someone, shave points, but took us fair and square to 2 final fours. Not to mention the other 4 guys did nothing wrong.

Michigan benefited enormously from the Fab 5 back then, and is even now. Any 'black hole' the program has gone through has way much more to do with coaching than the sanctions.

You don't get rings and banners for "culture," "style," or "legacy."  There aren't banners for bald heads, black socks, and baggy shorts.  Yet that's what these guys cling to, because all they won was a Maui Invitational.  No conference championships, no national championships.

Michigan means more to me than the Fab Five's self-important "legacy."  They weren't the only guys on that team, yet Chris Webber wiped out everyone's accomplishments.  And the other four Fab Five have spent the last decade making excuses for him.

I'll stand up for the Jason Bossards of the world over the Fab Five's "culture" and "style."

I was actually referring to B10 championships. The Nat'l 'ship is a crap shoot that any number of teams can win, I agree.

Also, I didn't say that championships were all that matters, I simply said that they do matter.

In my mind, I'll forever appreciate Stu Douglass, Zack Novak, and CJ Lee more than the Fab Five. It can be argued they did more for Michigan Basketball than all those NBA'ers.

This thing is constantly on ESPN and I'm fairly confident just about every die hard M fan has seen it. There was no need for this thread.
