OT: Roushar leaving msu
Today is a very sad day.
Joe Rexrode
@joerexrode MSU confirms Dan Roushar is leaving for New Orleans Saints RB job.

Unless their OL play improves I dont think it matters who is the OC of that team.
February 16th, 2013 at 3:34 PM ^
And why should I care?

Dan Roushar, the Spartans greatest opponent will be missed.
Goodnight Sweet Prince.

Lloyd would usually "fire" coordinators by finidng NFL position coach gigs for them. I suspect that's what Dantonio did here. If and when Narduzzi leaves, it will probably either be for a HC position or a DC job at a more prestigious school.

Was it the same with Malone and the Saints?
February 16th, 2013 at 6:51 PM ^
I was thrilled to see him go to the NFL.
February 16th, 2013 at 7:13 PM ^
Especially with how late he is leaving MSU (spring practice starts in about 4 weeks). I can't imagine Dantonio would allow this to happen unless he wanted him out and already had a replacement in mind
February 16th, 2013 at 3:40 PM ^
And those 6 yard outs on 3rd and ten were so much fun to watch too...
February 16th, 2013 at 3:41 PM ^
I bet all the Sparty fans are happy. They blamed all the Offensive problems on him.
February 16th, 2013 at 3:41 PM ^
And everywhere Spartan fans rejoice.........
You think we got frustrated with Al last season? Roushar made Borges look like he was running the "point a minute" Fielding Yost squad from 1901.

Roushar was not the problem there...IIRC they had an "11 win team" and a "clear path to the Rose Bowl" according to my Sparty associates pre-season last year.
Suddenly, it's Dan Roushar that caused their problems? Hardly. How about recruiting more skill than lucking out on LeVeon Bell and a transfer from Tennessee.
February 16th, 2013 at 3:46 PM ^
Not really OT, but yeah..Sparty fans will be happy, but their lack of an offense will become apparent regardless of who their OC is..
February 16th, 2013 at 4:27 PM ^
Well, the Saints had the 25th best rushing game in the NFL last year and the Spartans had the 95th best offense in Division I, so it's almost a lateral move from an overall performance standpoint. The next question is this - do they hire internally or does Dantonio walk over and sit at Hollis' desk and look desperately constipated for a number of hours before he concedes and offers to pay for an offensive coordinator? It is a shame that he is leaving - few people made Greg Davis look average for $300,000 or so per year.

I'm pretty sure this was Dantonio's way of firing Roushar. Even though it's the NFL, is a RB coach position for a team that isn't run-heavy. I think Roushar took this job because Dantonio told him that he better start looking around.
February 16th, 2013 at 4:25 PM ^
Could be, but if so it's a dick move to the 2013 offensive recruits, who just signed on the dotted line assuming he'd be their OC. If you're going to fire a guy, do it in January.

See the mgo.licio.us sidebar ... that's what Brian was thinking, too.

MSU will follow new B1G tradition by looking at their giant piles of money and then they will still hire someone from the MAC

No one thought the guy sucked a year ago. Maybe their players last season just weren't that good.

Personally, I find it hilarious that MSU fans believe that their next hire at OC will be a great one. That athletic department doesn't exactlly have a reputation for making big name hires. Should be interesting to see who they get.

Really late to go looking for an OC. Unless Dantonio hires someone from in house, it should be interesting because I can't imagine many people will be available unless you open up the bank.
Not to mention with spring practice starting in about 4 weeks, they will have to install a new offense and get position coaches on board with his system.

I mean ... really
February 16th, 2013 at 5:25 PM ^
He was beyond awful for them last year. Pretty astute move by Dantonio IMO. He has ties to the Saints, he needed to get rid of Roushar, but didn't want to have to fire him, so Dantonio got him an interview with an NFL team. With a decent OC, MSU might have won a few more games last year.

for UM. MSU may just hire someone decent.

Again, addition by subtraction. However if Staee is not going to pay anyone decent money, they'll get the same clown in a different suit.
