Packers to let go of Charles Woodson
Boo hiss. He was the only reason I ever kind of rooted for you, Green Bay.

Word economy lesson: "to let go of" could be said as "will release".
February 15th, 2013 at 12:18 PM ^
And what's with this layoff shit? You always see this in the paper: JC Penny to layoff 4000 people nationwide. Those people are not getting laid off; they are straight getting 86'd.
February 15th, 2013 at 1:16 PM ^
They are both 12 characters.
February 15th, 2013 at 1:49 PM ^
but one is three syllables and the other is four.
February 15th, 2013 at 1:51 PM ^
Do you read the message board out loud?
February 15th, 2013 at 1:53 PM ^
and sometimes my lips move when I read, too.
February 15th, 2013 at 3:34 PM ^
...you...DON'T?!??!
EDIT: well, i should say, i DID, until certain posters kept putting things in their posts to get me in trouble at work, like "my Dixie wrecked" and such.
February 15th, 2013 at 4:13 PM ^
And go boom.
February 15th, 2013 at 12:18 PM ^
I really hope the Lions pick him up. He'll sell a bunch of jerseys and we need a safety real bad.
February 15th, 2013 at 12:19 PM ^
Congratulations! It took 8 minutes for someone to suggest the Lions pick him up. I was thinking it'd be 2 minutes at the latest.
February 15th, 2013 at 12:24 PM ^
I'm sorry I let you down. My stupid job got in the way and I couldn't refresh mgoblog fast enough.
February 15th, 2013 at 1:00 PM ^
It's a joke, Howdy.
February 15th, 2013 at 1:09 PM ^
I know it was.
I was also joking.
February 15th, 2013 at 1:38 PM ^
He'd be the best DB the Lions have. I'd absolutely sign Woodson to a 2-year deal and let him finish his career in Detroit.
I'd still draft Dee Milliner and let Chuck tutor him for a couple of years.
February 15th, 2013 at 1:45 PM ^
Maybe he'll turn the tide as well.
February 15th, 2013 at 12:16 PM ^
If the Lions don't sign him, I will not watch a single Lions football game in 2013.
February 15th, 2013 at 12:28 PM ^
Same goes for the Pistons for me.
February 15th, 2013 at 12:31 PM ^
The pistons already have a logjam at PG/SG, I'm not sure if Woodson would really help them.
February 15th, 2013 at 12:32 PM ^
anthony carter, butch woolfolk, desmond. All closed out their careers in detroit after being awesome somewhere else.
February 15th, 2013 at 12:17 PM ^
Lions jump on this.
February 15th, 2013 at 12:17 PM ^
UM great, but he's getting old, and has been injured a lot the last couple years. He isn't worth the cap hit anymore, so this release makes sense for Green Bay.
February 15th, 2013 at 12:21 PM ^
Missed nine games last year. One the year before that. And played in all 16 games for 4 of the 5 years before that.
February 15th, 2013 at 1:02 PM ^
Tell me, would you keep an about to be 37 year old safety, who just missed half the season, and holds a large cap hit, on your team?
If you answered yes, then you would be fired as GM sooner rather than later.
February 15th, 2013 at 1:10 PM ^
... boom, you've be Forded.
February 15th, 2013 at 12:27 PM ^
Watch your mouth!
February 15th, 2013 at 12:34 PM ^
As a Packers fan, this makes all the sense in the world from a salary cap perspective. He's an all-time favorite of mine, but he's slowed down a bit. Glad to see the last two Michigan Heisman winners go on and get a Super Bowl ring with the Packers.
February 15th, 2013 at 2:29 PM ^
Who cares, despite his age and recent injury history, he still has a better chance to staty healthy than Delmas. I couldn't even tell you who our other safety is.
February 15th, 2013 at 12:18 PM ^
It's not all bad, now I don't have to root for the Packers like the OP.
February 15th, 2013 at 12:20 PM ^
I'm a huge Bears fan so when they would play the Packers it would be hard for me to root against him and at least hope that he played well. Now I can go back to just completely hating the Packers. Hopefully he'll find himself a good situation where he can finish out his career.
February 15th, 2013 at 12:19 PM ^
My Bucs are in dire need of a corner and some veteran leadership. Make some moves, Schiano.
February 15th, 2013 at 1:26 PM ^
Yeah, Schiano...make some moves! TB needs Woodson (36 yrs. old), playing next to Ronde Barber (37 yrs. old), because they need leadership...? However, I could see a team like New England going after a vet like CW.
February 15th, 2013 at 12:20 PM ^
I wish the Redskins would pick him up,but his agent and Dan Snyder don't get along that well.
February 15th, 2013 at 12:20 PM ^
I would love for the Lions to pick him up, but do they have the cap space? Salary cap is the single biggest issue the Lions are facing as they try to revamp their personnel, and Woodson was just released specifically because he was too expensive for the Packers.
February 15th, 2013 at 12:22 PM ^
I hope he goes to The Pats and him and Brady win another Super Bowl.
February 15th, 2013 at 2:25 PM ^
...a Super Bowl that I'd actually be willing to watch. Normally, the endless hype, overabundance of commercials, and lengthy song-n-dance baloney makes it the only football game that I avoid.
February 15th, 2013 at 12:22 PM ^
As our recruiting coordinator. Watch
February 15th, 2013 at 12:23 PM ^
he's done in our secondary. I'll miss him greatly but that frees up a lot of cap space for us to go out and look for better defensive players. We need to get rid of Hawk also. Packers need another guy like Matthews and a running back desperately.
February 15th, 2013 at 4:09 PM ^
As a Lions fan it angers me to know how little you need on your roster. The Lions need cap space to bring in guys at uhhhhh lets say EVERY POSITION
February 15th, 2013 at 12:37 PM ^
Agreed, Hawk has to go. DJ Smith and Bishop can hold down the middle. It will be ineresting to see what Nick Perry can do next year as well.
Most of their cap space is going to go toward Matthews, Rodgers, and Raji.
I'd love to see them get a solid OL.
February 15th, 2013 at 12:52 PM ^
ugh we could use that speed in our running game so bad as for Hawk I wouldn't mind seeing Jared Allen with our defense. A lot of intensity and I could honestly care less if he played for the Vikes. Hes quicker and faster than Hawk.
February 15th, 2013 at 1:45 PM ^
I wouldn't mind bringing Allen in for pass rush downs, but why are you comparing him to Hawk? Totally different positions.
I don't want to see a high pick for a RB. They need another safety back there with Burnett and offensive line help. I'd like to see them bring Finley back as well. Will be interesting to see how Perry and Worthy come back from injury (Sherrod as well too). On defense you are talking about getting 3 starting LB's back and a starting DL.
February 15th, 2013 at 3:03 PM ^
Nick Perry has the potential to be another guy "like Mathews". That injury along with the other ones at linebacker killed the Packers this year.
February 15th, 2013 at 12:24 PM ^
This damn well better not be the surprise everyone keeps talking about.
February 15th, 2013 at 12:42 PM ^
Coach? I would dig it.
February 15th, 2013 at 12:26 PM ^
Come to San Diego.
February 15th, 2013 at 12:28 PM ^
Any inkling if he's looking to get into coaching once his playing days are finally over?
February 15th, 2013 at 12:32 PM ^
...love Woodson, will root for him wherever he goes...even to Lions. Hell, I even liked the Raiders when he played there!
February 15th, 2013 at 12:34 PM ^
I was worried this might happen. Going to the Packers was huge for Woodson's career. Hope he ends up somewhere where he can make a big difference like...not Oakland.
February 15th, 2013 at 12:40 PM ^
Eagles could use a safety....
