Kickoff Cheer
There are some pretty cool college kickoff cheers out there.
Just to name a few, Oklahoma fans yell, "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO U!", Auburn fans yell, "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR EAGLE!", Notre Dame fans yell, "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO IRISH!", while Georgia fans yell, "GOOOOOOOOOOOO DAWGS! SIC 'EM!"
Michigan fans, on the other hand, yell, "ooooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOH!" (See below)
Why does our kickoff cheer suck so bad?
I mean, seriously, "oooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOH"?!? Is that the best we can come up with?
Has anyone ever given any thought to at least yelling, "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BLUE!" or something like that?

We could yell:
"11 National Championships and 42 Big Ten Titles and 3 Heisman winners and The Most Wins In College Football History and The Best Winning Percentage......aww forget it.."

"ooooooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHH!" However, perhaps we could turn it into: "ooooooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHH! LET'S ... GO ... BLUE!!" with the BLUE part happening as the return man catches it/the ball hits the ground in the end-zone.
Too complicated?

JMO, but that sounds a lot better than plain, old "ooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOH!"
At least it has something to do with Michigan.

Although I think ooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHH....... GO BLUE would be simpler, and still be cool. On a side note: I noticed at Saturdays game the GO BLUE chant that was done with one side of the Big House yelling GO and the other side yelling BLUE was changed a bit. Now it's LET'S GO BLUE, broken up into thirds. I think it was louder the old way. Anyone else notice this?

was new to me last year.
The GO----BLUE chant was performed later in the 4th quarter, but quieter than usual this time around. Perhaps a number of people had lost their voices at that point.

I sit near the top of section 33. Every time there's a kick off, someone a couple rows behind me does exactly as you suggest. Been happening for years. But he's always by himself in shouting "Let's Go Blue!" I think I'd miss that terribly if either he or I were to change sections.
Any chance that's you? Anyway...I think it's a great idea.

I thought it was supposed to be 'Let's Go Blue' but it just got kinda sloppy over the years...
I thing Gooooooooooo BLUE! could work well if it were widely disseminated enough.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoo before kickoff then when the ball was kicked it was BLUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUE (as per some AD marketing stuff that was thrown out in a packet for "michigan traditions at the big house". Obviously most people don't know this and so they just make noise like OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHH (which is fine for defense)
But whenever the ball is kicked off I yell "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BLUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" and whenever I sit by anyone that isn't doing that I tell them to do that.
Also STOP THE CHOP! We aren't seminoles/native americans! We are Wolverines and as such should do the CLAW!

Sounds like a good opportunity for them to use the bottom panel of the scoreboard to educate the masses by flashing a "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" and then a "BLUE!" when the kicker strikes the ball.

it's not really a chop; rather, it is a first down signal (since we are getting the ball back).
September 8th, 2009 at 12:57 AM ^
Except for when the other team decides to go for it on 4th down and converts the first.
September 8th, 2009 at 8:34 AM ^
Perhaps you should also alert the referees to stop the chop as well -- there must be a more culturally sensitive way to signal first down.
This always seemed like a Daily-manufactured controversy to me.

I always enjoyed that random guy who, in the silence after the "Oh," would yell something along the lines of "[visiting team] SUCKS!" But that's just me.
September 8th, 2009 at 12:53 AM ^
Yeah, if I saw one of Michigan's fans doing that, I believe I'd get all glarey death eyed at him. Not my idea of wit, encouragement, or sportsmanship.

Against WMU sure there wasn't that much need for intensity but against a bigger opponent during bigger stops the limp wrist goes away.
And either way the "limp dick" claw is still INFINITELY better than the chop. Again we are not native americans. STOP THE CHOP!
(also you could just read the daily's article back when they first debuted the claw)
***EDIT** meant in reply to oct it's too late I'm going to bed

Just to add another one with Alabama I believe its "oooooooooOOOOOOO Roll Tide Roll"
I do like octals suggestion though. It seems simple enough. Along the lines of the kick off cheer, has anyone else heard another school playing the "let's go blue" chant? I could have sworn I heard it while watching a game on Saturday. Not to think that it was actually only ours. I just have never heard it from another school. Is it actually common to other universities?
September 8th, 2009 at 12:49 AM ^
I think Purdue and Alabama both use the same music as U-M's "Let's Go Blue" music for one of their cheers.

The AD marketing department has put out literature saying what the appropriate saying is for kickoffs (this was several years ago like 5/6 years ago).
Apparently people don't read my posts. They just see the name and neg. Good to know.

Seriously just quit complaining. Points are meaningless after 20 so why do you car if you are negged?

on the kick off they all yell GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BLUE!

Marketing Dept. needs to hand out complementary copies to the first 20,000 fans through the gates.

THANK YOU GOD nobody mentioned OSU's peutred kick off cheer.....ugh

Neuveau peutred spelling

I like the idea of "oooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHH -- LET'S GO BLUE." Sorta fits in with the student section first down bit.
September 8th, 2009 at 3:41 AM ^
So long as we're not just jingling keys.
September 8th, 2009 at 9:41 AM ^
We used to chant de-fense when on defense, and now we just yell. We need to come up with some better defensive chants.
