Good. Let's take him back.
February 13th, 2013 at 8:04 PM ^
Flip him Brady. I heard a rumor on 247 that he's not very solid to Ohio which can be confirmed by his visits to Michigan and MSU recently. It would be sweet and a gut punch to Meyer if we got him to flip to the good guys.

My fear with Webb is that he is such an early commit, he will develope relationships he will not be willing to break. And once you start recruiting other players, it's hard to backtrack. The longer he is committed to them, the tougher it will be.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:27 AM ^
Kyle Kalis anyone?
February 14th, 2013 at 11:54 AM ^
The solace I take in the Webb situation is that Cass Tech players have been so vastly overrated for sometime now that I just assume that he (as well as UM's Cass Tech commits, unfortunately) will never really live up to the recruiting hype.
February 14th, 2013 at 12:40 PM ^
Not sure why you would take solace in this. Coach Wilcher is a Michigan Man and he's doing a great job with the CT program. He deserves a lot of credit for churning out more and more players that are garnering national attention. It will only benefit Michigan if these guys start to meet or exceed expectations.
February 13th, 2013 at 8:10 PM ^
Yeah Coach Meyer I want to be a buckeye...by the way I am visiting MSU and UofM the next couple days.
Just seems odd to me, but then again it is recruiting it does not make sense
February 13th, 2013 at 8:14 PM ^
his commitment was done impulsively. Happens a lot. See: Ward, Denzel. Glad to see Michigan is staying on him. Elite talent or not, can't have Ohio taking our guys.
February 13th, 2013 at 8:16 PM ^
This situation demonstrates, once again, the idiocy of a "commit" visiting other schools and flirting with other coaching staffs, and hopefully will shut up the lingering malcontents who complain about Hoke's no-visit policy.

Hand is the #1 overall prospect in the country. We would likely accept him as a "best available" even if our DE needs were met. Preventing Urban Meyer from building pipelines into the state of Michigan is a huge priority, and landing Marshall is a major step toward stemming that tide.
Also, while it is technically correct to say that our scholarships are limited (in the sense that, due to NCAA rules, there are a finite number of scholarships we're able to give out), this class is not shaping up to be significantly smaller than a standard class, once you factor in expected attrition.

See below. This is moot - he doesn't play the same position.

Strong and weak side ends are very different positions in our defense.

February 14th, 2013 at 12:20 AM ^
but I don't think you know what you are talking about. Hoke and Mattison have both mentioned that that the 5-tech and 3-tech can be somewhat interchangeable in our defense. You are the first one I've seen suggest they look at the 5-tech and 7-tech that way. It's pretty obvious they have been recruiting different types of players for those positions.
February 13th, 2013 at 8:40 PM ^
How is continuing to recruit someone that you've offered "settl[ing] for less talent"? Are you suggesting that Marshall's was somehow not a "commitable offer"? #bucknuts'd
Also, I'll reiterate that we would likely take Hand regardless.

Marshall is a Weakside DE. Hand is a Strongside DE. McDowell, if he adds a little bit of weight, could be a terror at DT as well. They play different positions - don't worry about it.

If I were a D lineman, Michigan would automatically be in consideration. Obviously I'm biased here, but objectively speaking, is there any better staff in the country for development at this position?
February 13th, 2013 at 8:52 PM ^
Alabama seems to do okay.

February 13th, 2013 at 9:43 PM ^
With Alabama and LSU it's really hard to tell if they are doing an extraordinary job developing these players or they are just recruiting absolute studs.
I trust our staff to develop d-linemen as well as any other staff in the country given their focus and the head coach's background. Now if we could just pull in a few of those SEC type talents.

think 5 th overall by chiefs
they have lots of other nfl talent last 5-6 years
couple of natlchamps as well
February 13th, 2013 at 9:45 PM ^
Alabama has signed 27 D lineman over the past 5 years, and the vast majority of them were 4 stars and above. Of course they're going to have some hits. They've also had quite a few misses.
