Pretty good piece about Tate on ESPN:.com
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4452596
It's early, but he also almost cracked to top ten in Eff. rating

"Tate said he cried when he ran out of the tunnel and on the field and saw 110,000 people and truly realized how much Michigan football means to so many people," he said. "It gets me choked up just thinking about him telling me that because it tells me my son really gets it."
Quote from Tate's father. That is awesome.

This is what I was talking about on the "non believers" thread. Most kids just don't get that kind of mentorship. Athletic Maturity is what Tate developed. It's a deep mind set and you have to consciously tap into with the help of a trainer.

You are very smart so people on this board will probably get jealous

Shut up McFarlin
September 7th, 2009 at 10:44 PM ^
I can't even read your name its so long, so I will just call you Mommaboy and everyone knows mommaboys are name calllers
September 7th, 2009 at 10:47 PM ^
Refer to my first post.
September 7th, 2009 at 10:51 PM ^
At first, I thought this was just a poor impersonation, now it's almost realistic.
September 7th, 2009 at 10:56 PM ^
Im convinced its him. And if it isnt, what kind of loser would want to impersinate McFarlin? no sugarcoat.
September 7th, 2009 at 10:59 PM ^
why don't you just do a painting of me if you are so interested, mommatheregoespicasso
September 7th, 2009 at 11:03 PM ^
Why dont you just stop posting here and go get life.
September 7th, 2009 at 10:47 PM ^
I don't know if I overlooked him on the list but I don't see his name at all...
September 7th, 2009 at 9:59 PM ^
"...slow-footed junior Nick Sheridan at quarterback." Couldn't they just say, Nick Sheridan? No need to point out his lack of 'Lace-like speed.
September 7th, 2009 at 9:59 PM ^
"He's a good leader for us -- even as a freshman," junior guard Steve Schilling said. "He's confident, and we're confident with him back there."
Tate is already the leader of the team, and maybe Denard is a little faster but not much
September 7th, 2009 at 10:10 PM ^
and think he will be a great quarterback for U of M, but I have to disagree with you. Tate can be elusive and has some quickness, but Denard has world class speed. He has the ability with his legs to take it to the house at any moment. Tate does not have that capability with his feet. But he can get good gains and keep plays alive and that is what we need from a QB.
September 7th, 2009 at 10:21 PM ^
how many td passes do you think Tate would have had if RR had turned him loose in the 2nd half, records would have been made for sure
September 7th, 2009 at 11:12 PM ^
Banhammer, please.
September 7th, 2009 at 11:16 PM ^
Was being taken care of as you typed that. Sometimes I just hold out hope that these McFarlin impostors (or the real one) gets enough points to make a forum topic that is so hilariously ridiculous that it makes it worth waiting to apply the banhammer. Sigh, the impostors just can't hold face long enough without caving to the overwhelming desire to jump the shark with the name calling.
September 7th, 2009 at 11:20 PM ^
Gracias, senor.
September 7th, 2009 at 11:27 PM ^
who the eff is McFarlins?
September 8th, 2009 at 12:08 AM ^
Once upon a time, about 3 months ago, there was a 14 year old who posted by the handle "McFarlin." This teenager posted some good things, many over optimistic. Whenever his opinion was challenged, he would result to juvenile tactics such as less-than-clever name calling or absolute idiocy. He would post intentionally flammable posts and try to pick e-fights. It came to the point that Brian wasn't going to allow it any more. I believe it was the first banhammer of mgoblog v3.0, but I could be mistaken on that.
Since the original banhammer, there have been "McFarlin.", "Mc_Farlin", and now "McFarlins". I might be missing another as well. Normally they come off as impersonators, unable to keep the character in the 14 year old mentality and slip into more adult topics. Some, you just can't tell if it's an impostor or not. In any case, it always turns into a flame war.
September 7th, 2009 at 10:00 PM ^
He is #5 and got pulled out early, but Tate had to share duties with several other QBs!
As for QBs who lead in rushing yards, Denard has the 11th best performance.
Not bad huh?
September 7th, 2009 at 10:10 PM ^
Mallett was a whiny, immature, inaccurate qb...maybe he has grown up a little and decided not to throw every ball 100mph straight into the ground. I hope a Big Ten discard tears up the SEC (yes he left but did so understanding that his style would no longer suffice).
September 7th, 2009 at 10:15 PM ^
I meant to say not bad that we have Tate at #11 in Efficiency, and Denard at #11 for QB rushing yards.
I'd take the 2 frosh qb all year long sharing duties, not Mallett.
September 7th, 2009 at 10:07 PM ^
a very diplomatic way to say "terrible football player."
September 7th, 2009 at 10:08 PM ^
I was bouncing around ESPN looking at the other two articles and saw the video of gameday wrap up. Is it just me or does Desmond just not act excited enough for being an alum? Herbie was more jacked than he was.
September 7th, 2009 at 10:14 PM ^
that Desmond is just trying to look professional. I think as a professional analyst, you want to try to remove yourself from being a fan, so that you will be taken seriously. If you act like to much of a homer, than people will eventually question your integrity and say your opinions are biased. That is just my take on the situation as I think Desmond is most certainly a fan and strong supporter of U of M.
September 7th, 2009 at 10:17 PM ^
you are right. Good stuff JewofM. +1
September 7th, 2009 at 10:20 PM ^
very much. It is rare that I have a coherent thought : )
September 7th, 2009 at 10:22 PM ^
right. that's exactly why I could never be an analyst.
September 7th, 2009 at 10:26 PM ^
with you 100%. It is hard to not be a fan. Imagine being a TV analyst for a U of M game where it is close and U of M pulls it out at the end. Like when we beat Penn State a few years back on the pass from Henne to Manningham at the end of the game. I would be jumping up and down and screaming in the booth. I would probably be fired and removed by security.
September 8th, 2009 at 12:07 AM ^
A professional with integrity like Lou Holtz?
September 7th, 2009 at 10:15 PM ^
you feel when Lou Holtz starts predicting ten win seasons for the Irish every year, then ask yourself if you'd want Desmond doing the same thing.
It's called impartiality, and trying to retain credibility. You don't think Desmond is gloating after a victory like Saturday? C'mon.
September 7th, 2009 at 10:15 PM ^
Desmond is as anti-RichRod as it gets.
September 7th, 2009 at 11:00 PM ^
Examples?
I'm not disagreeing with you, but I don't have cable and thus don't watch enough ESPN to know what D has said that might show a lack of support.
EDIT: I didn't neg you. I honestly don't know what D has said.
September 7th, 2009 at 10:34 PM ^
I thought he was the one who worked out in the UM weight room after RR took the job, and said that Justin Boren was a whiner?
September 7th, 2009 at 10:22 PM ^
Isn't it time that we gave the Sheridan bashing a rest? Give the guy a break, I mean he is better than BJ Dickey right?
September 7th, 2009 at 10:26 PM ^
I agree. The occasional line is alright a la Cone, but there's no need to consistently bouje him.
September 7th, 2009 at 10:54 PM ^
I don't think he is better than BJ Dickey, but he may be better than Chris Zurbrugg.
September 7th, 2009 at 11:32 PM ^
#1 Clausen (who'd a thunk it?)
#5 Mallett (good for him)
#6 Cousins (MSU likey Montana State)
#9 Barkley (another Southern California boy starting as a true frosh [USC])
#10 Tebow (every time I hear his name I can here Jerry Seinfeld calling George Costanza T-bone)
September 7th, 2009 at 11:51 PM ^
He is definitely better than Demetrius Brown was against State in '87. Made Todd Krumm look like Charles Woodson. Honestly, we should believe what Coach Rod says about Sheridan. If he really sucked why would he even get mentioned as warranting more playing time after Tate's performance in the spring plus Tate AND Denard's in game one.
September 8th, 2009 at 12:06 AM ^
to beat Alabama in the Hall of Fame Bowl in 87 (1/1/88) and to beat tOSU in the shoe in 88. Also QB'd Mich to victory in the Rose over USC (1/1/89).
High school honorable mention all-conference QB Sheridan led us to victory against Minnesota. Let's just leave it at that.
September 8th, 2009 at 1:13 PM ^
Thanks for the reminder about D Brown's better games. He did throw a tight lefty spiral. And thanks for reinforcing the contention that Sheridan deserves praise not ridicule for working hard enough to go from a "high school honorable mention QB" to getting playing time at Michigan even if his performance isn't top notch.
