Wisconsin BBall Postgame Thoughts

Will Beilein ever put a man on the inbound? Forget fouling, that end was exactly like Evan Turner's shot against us

Brian's take on the Refs, and the game

There is no justice. There is only Bo Ryan ruining basketball.

He is the type of player that can carry a team on his back and make a run and in game/tournament.

But, this team is more balanced with him not on the floor. Everyone gets involved more when they are not standing around admiring how great Burke is.

While I love watching Michigan, I hate watching college basketball.

If someone were to ask me, "TheLastHoke, why do you hate college basketball with the fury of a hundred thousand thunderbolts hurled by Jupiter himself?" I would hand them a tape of this game, or the Wisconsin - Michigan State game from earlier this year.

If the refs called every single game like that, Wisconsin would win 10 consecutive ugly basketball national championships.

They rank only slightly above that recent high school basketball team that went up by 2 early in the second half and then refused to shoot for the rest of the game, stalling their way to victory.

I don't know that covering the inbound guy would have made a difference.  After a made basket, the inbounder can run the baseline, so it's not that hard for him to get the pass off.

We simply needed to foul.  It was common sense, and Beilein apparently was calling for it.  LeVert for some reason didn't get the message.

It makes a huge difference. A defender would shadow the inbounder making him take time if the inbounder decides to run the baseline. If noone guarda him he has no pressure to move or if he does he only focuses on the pass and not the pass and the defender in front of him.

another in-game coaching blunder by Beilein?  Is that what I'm hearing.  Yelling foul from the sidelines was a joke and Beilein needs to do a better job.  Someone earlier said that he is a good recruiter and a nice guy which is true.  However, his lack of a game plan other than put the ball in Burke's hands is getting old in the big games.

It never should have come down to that prayer 3 by Brust.

Before Hardaway Jr. made his 3 (which really was fortuntate becuase we didn't run a good play at all there) we had missed our last 6 shots. A couple were layups.

Same thing in OT. McGary gets the steal but misses an easy one,...Hardaway Jr. too hard off the glass. ...ugghhh...

Agree with the other posters that we need to guard the inbounds play. Way too easy for these guys (Turner and Brust) to catch, take a dribble of two and get the shot off.

Oh....and....WILL YOU RUN SOME DAMN BOX OUT DRILLS IN PRACTICE!

We just blew the Big Ten. major coaching blunder down the stretch . You foul!!! Period. No way the other team can get a 3 point shot off. This one is one coach B. One other thought...Stauskas and GRIII have been very very passive in the last few games I've seen. We need them to produce and have the confidence to take big shots in close games. This is particularly true of Stauskas who is supposed to be an elite 3 point shooter. I saw Stauskas pass up several good shot oportunities...

After THJ's three, I thought we had a good shot at finishing this tough four game stretch at 3-1, which would have been huge. Now we have to hope 2-2 with the next one being one the road in very hostile territory. Le sigh.

Really? This team can't win on the road against a quality opponent. MSU's season reminds of the ND football season. They never look dominate but the bounces always seem to go their way and they always seem to figure out a way to win close games. Lose the game on Tuesday and the chance of winning the Big Ten regular season title is basically done.

How about we just got beat on an incredibly lucky shot? I let him have that 100 times and watch him miss 99.

Sometimes team get lucky and make 35 footers. But on the plus side GR3 draft stock is falling off a cliff and Morgan will be back next week. I think we can all agree that is very important after seeing how we look I paint without him

How the hell did that happen? Also, I am sure teams have gone entire games without any FTAs but it can't be often that a team gets only 2 in a OT game.

Just an all around annoying game.

I just don't get it. You have to, have to, have to put somebody (McGary) on the inbounder. Bruesewitz almost fell in bounds making the pass and easily caught Brust in stride. That doesn't happen if somebody is in his face. I am so pissed off right now. When will Beilein learn????

It's already been reiterated plenty of times, Beilein wanted LeVert to foul him, and not just LeVert whoever received the ball he wanted to player hammered. I agree about guarding the inbound but LeVert clearly was on Brust's hip and had a chance to foul and he didn't. He's a young guy and will learn but he botched that play horribly.

He's the difference maker in all of this.  Somehow, somebody with a nice shot, relatively thick 6'7" frame who can jump out of the gym can completely disappear.  Everyone else is playing tough and the guy formerly known as GRIII looks like that middling pick in school yard ball that you pick just to not screw up.

First, against OSU, I figured "Ehhh....first big pressure road game...no big deal." Then at Indiana, I figured, "He has some sweet athletes guarding him....and hes on the road....no big deal."  Then at HOME against OSU, I was discouraged and figured, "I guess he just can't hack it against equivalent athletes yet."

Now, here we have Wisconsin.  A team that can't get 12 inches off of the floor, and this guy can't play defense, rebound or create any sort of a shot.

I'll just chalk it up to being a soft freshman.  Nevertheless, when Morgan comes back, I would be surprised if Beilein didnt start going to more 2 big man sets b/c at this point, even Zack Novack (we miss you Zack) has a bigger presence on the interior.

1. Guard the inbound pass

2. Mitch, I love you, but you ARE allowed to dunk it.

3. Can anyone create their own shots besides Burke and Hardaway?

4. Can anyone play "angry" besides Hardaway and McGary?

5. You cannot win games by talent and stars alone. Guys have to start doing the little things.

6. GRIII, where art thou?

7. I miss you, Jordan Morgan

8. Big Ten refs, man...

9. Bo Ryan is an actual badger.

10. Dan Dakich is a sack of buttholes.

Agreed, but if you go up strong, you're more likely to get the call. This finesse stuff bugs the shit out of me...especially being a talented big man like he is.

We'll be okay in the B1G picture which is what matters. indiana will lose tomorrow and state will lose tuesday.

My only question is-

Y U NO FOUL DAMMNIT?!?!

I can't even be on this website right now. Why did that shot go in? Why did we get no calls from the refs? Why didn't we foul? Why couldn't we man up and win it in Overtime? Why does God hate me? But why did that shot go in?
