M Baseball to play northwestern at Wrigley

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Saw this on the schedule a couple of days ago. In addition to Michigan's game at CitiField against yale, Michigan will play northwestern on April 20 at Wrigley Field.

Perhaps northwestern's relationship with Wrigley (discussed here a couple days ago) was only for baseball?

Northwestern and the Chicago Cubs have entered into a partnership that will result in the university staging athletic events for many of the school's 19 varsity programs at Wrigley Field over the next several years, the two sides announced Tuesday.

The events will include five football games, with the dates still pending while the field completes its ongoing restoration project. The first Northwestern event at Wrigley Field will take place on Apr. 20, when the school's baseball team hosts Michigan

My only concern is that very few people (in the North) follow college baseball.  If there are 10,000 people there this would be awesome.  If there are 500, it will still be pretty cool, but significantly less so.

As I recall, one of the few games actually played in Tiger Stadium between the end of the 1999 season and its demolition was a collegiate game, but it was the Great Lakes Summer League, not a Big Ten or major conference game.

As for Michigan and Northwestern playing in Wrigley, I definitely agree that it is a great idea to play at one of the two remaining ballparks built before 1960. Excellent way to connect with the history of the game.

CMU and state play an annual game at Comerica every year called Clash at Comerica and it attracts about 5 people, 4 of them are parents.

Why they don't follow hockey's lead and have Michigan play state in Detroit in baseball every year is beyond me. Other than this year, that game at JLA has sold out every year. One of the harder tickets to get.
