MBB to Wear 1968 Throwback Jerseys vs Penn State

Submitted by DH16 on

According to Rothstein:

Michigan basketball is going to wear 1968 throwback jerseys for its home game on Feb. 17 against Penn State. Part of the Crisler dedication.

Looks like you can buy Cazzie's at the MDen too: http://www.mden.com/shopping/product.cgi?TI1203+2030

Are these some jerseys people like for once? I for one approve, and wish they weren't so expensive to buy.

EDIT: pasadenablue made me realize I have no pic of them, he posted one a few posts down to compare to our home jerseys from a few years ago, here they are:

Beautiful! Now THAT is a throwback!

On a side note, who do you think the next the honored player to receive a banner at Crisler will be? I can't think of a more deserving candidate than Rickey Green. I'd even go as far to say Zack Novak being he lead this program out of the darkness.

If Michigan were to ever do a Rickey Green banner night, they could wear these (minus the ass hugger shorts)

Cazzie Russell

Phil Hubbard

Rudy Tomjanovich

Glenn Rice

Bill Buntin

I loved Ricky Green but as a JUCO transfer I don't see it happening. My vote would be for Jalen Rose to join that group.

And no way does Zack have the chops to be in that group of players.  I'd put Henry Wilmore, Campy Russell, Mike McGee, Roy Tarpley, Terry Mills and Rumeal Robinson all in before Novak.

Ricky Green, my favorite "Green" to wear the Blue of Michigan so far!  That is a throwback I'd love to see, those mid-70's unis like on that SI cover shot of Green.  TX for posting that!

BTW, are you back from Bolivia now?

I don't care at all how silly we might look, I would be so excited to see us wearing short-shorts and dunking all over PSU.  It would be all over every type of media.  If you have enough confidence, you can pull off anything.  The Fab Five went baggy in '91.  Maybe the Fresh Five will go tighty-whitey in '13.

Additionally, regardless what the shorts look like, they should definately wear the belts.

Oh man, I can't wait to see this.

No, I'm not gay (NTTAWWT).

Cool throwback for a game. Are they better than what we have now? Nope. I actually like our recent jerseys (the normal ones, not the bleed-out), but think our shorts should be the Fab Five era shorts with the big block M.

Dave Strack's last year as HC before Johnny Orr took over, right?

Is Strack still alive?  I looked him up on Wikipedia, but it was missing that info, as well as his DOB.  I would imagine that he's in his late 80's, seeing that he played for U of M in the mid 40's.  If he's alive and in good health, I'd love to see them honor both him and Orr (now 85 years old)  who was an assistant under Strack in '68.

Here's a link to an Ann Arbor News article on Cazzie from '66, includes a picture of Cazzie wearing #33 in his home threads:

So much better than our regular uniformz. These plus the shiny maize fab five unis plus some plain navy ones with maize numbers and stripes.

Those should be our 3 uniform combos.

...and even think that the normal jerseys should look like that pretty much all the time.

What I find troubling about all of these jerseys alternatives is not just the poor design (that shows up to often) but also how frequently they are deployed.  They are called "uniforms" and there's really no reason to deviate.  We wouldn't even need a "throwback" if we simply kept to a modest traditional design.

Michigan has over 100 years of athletic experience and you'd think we'd have settled firmly on clean classi uniform design by now.  Instead, we look like a bunch of indecisive twats by rolling out something new every 4 or 5 games.  It's really quite embarrassing.
