Finals Rivals 100

Submitted by Bo Knows on

The finals rivals 100 has been posted

Players of interest

  • Green #8
  • Poggi #70
  • Morris #81, #4 QB, #2 in MI (behind elmer)
  • Kugler #82 (now listed as a guard)

Bosch and McCray drop, not surprising since they didn't play in all-star game

Ohio's guys

  • Mike Mitchell #26 new 5 star
  • jalin Marshall #35
  • Cam Burrows #39
  • Joey Bosa #47
  • Ezekiel Elliott #84
  • Eli Apple #89

Highest rated player in big ten is Hackenberg at #24, new five star

Some thoughts on the list as a whole

  • really surprised Treadwell moved up to number 5, he's still the only 5 star receiver and during the games I didn't see anything from him that he was far and away better than the other receivers (drop on Morris TD.. grrr), must have looked amazing during practice
  • Also surprised Isaac kept his 5th star, he looked real thin and almost lost during the UA game
  • Thought that if anyone deserved that new 5th star it'd be derrick henry (now listed at RB) I'm happy it was Lacy and not him we faced
  • Reuben Foster dropped out of the top 10, I'm a bit surprised.  He said in an interview that Georgia wants to use him in the Jarvis Jones role, and I'm not sure he;d succeed there, but that kid is gonna be a run stopping force in the middle for somebody.

I know he had mono, but he wasn't particularly impressive during his senior season, during practices at the UA game, or at the game.  Other than him being a Michigan commit, I'm not sure what the argument is that his drop was unfair.  And being ranked 81 is obviously still really good.

What was impressive about Hackenberg during the UA game?  He showed a strong arm (as did Morris) and the ball went all over the place.  Aside from the interception, their UA games were pretty indistinguishable from each other.

I didn't watch practices, but you can't look at any QB's performance from the UA game and be impressed.  Those quarterbacks had games that were varying degrees of terrible.

Morris had the INT, but I also think he had the most impresive throw of the game.  He threw a beautiful, perfectly place pass (read NFL-like) to Treadwell in the endzone which Treadwell then dropped/had stripped before he could secure the catch.  That was about the closest thing to a TD that anybody had at that game.

I think the fact that Shane Morris is still ranked as high as he is, is a testimate to how good he actually is. He had Mono most of his senior season and a pretty poor performance in the under armour game, or whatever it was. I think most knew he was going to drop his fifth start after his lackluster performance in the under armour game game but top 100 players, outside of the top 15 or so, end up all pretty much having the same success rate in college. Not to mention he's still a five star on scout.

Plus, is anyone really dissapointed in this class? I don't see how anyone could possibly be. Especially if we add Green I think this may be our best class ever, and maybe the highest ranked class ever.

Has anyone ever had a top-end recruiting class as good as USCs according to Rivals?  They've got:

6 five stars

3 top ten

11 Rivals 100

All of those have to be a record or something.

And they had Max Redfield and Eddie Vanderdoes committed at one point, both of whom are current rivals 5*. Heck, even the kid that Kiffen screwed over is just outside of the top 100.

I beilieved Shane was overrated from the get BUT I think If he RS and gardner gets a med RS he will ultimately be a good QB... As far as green I've always loved him due to size speed and ability to run north and south.. Also he's not gonna shake defenders out of there shoes he will just run them over.. He's the guy at the end of the game who will gain 120 yards on the ground in a game and you will look up and say did he really have that many yards... Just my .02

he has never really looked amazing to me.  cannon arm but thats about it...

That said, he should get two years before he plays and a lot can be learned in two years.  No one coming out has that arm so at least we have that going.  If we could just get a speed wideout...

There are two things I noticed.

1. Michigan's point total dropped from 2592 to 2577. That's hardly a significant change.

2. If Michigan lands Green on Saturday, Michigan will jump from #6 to #2 in the team rankings with 2801 points. (This is of course assuming the teams ahead of us don't get any commits between now and Saturday. If Notre Dame picks up Smythe, they would jump up to #1 with 2845, which would knock us down to #3.)

I have no idea what you're trying to say. What do you mean they only rank the top 20? Why would I need to subtract points for adding Green? The new rankings are out and our point total is already adjusted, so I'm not sure why we would have to subtract any points if Green committed. And Green would add exactly 224 points according to the formula Rivals uses.

One thing I did not consider in my original post is that Rivals only updated their Top 100. Later this week, the Rivals250 list will be updated, which will likely change our point total again. So I will have to redo the arithmetic in a few days.

When doing the team rankings, the point total only reflects the top 20 commits. So if we add Green, we need to bump off the #20 recruit in our class, then recalculate. At this time, that looks like Stribling, and thus we bump off Stribling's 90 points while adding Green's 224. This Green will add 134 points to our total, and bring us to just behind Bama at #4.

He means they only count the top 20 in any specific class towards the classes ranking. It's an attempt to combat teams like A&M who has like 35 recruits this class getting the number 1 ranking off of shear numbers.

Supposedly already was told he did receive his 5th year. I'm hearing around here in Cali by some college folks that its a done deal. I did some research and Rant Sports is also reporting this? Anyone know if this is true?

Most of the running backs looked bad in the UA game, not just Isaac.  The only one that looked halfway decent was Kamara.  The offensive lines weren't very good, and the defensive lines were pretty darn good.  That's usually how it works in these all-star games.  The performance of the East offensive line in the AA game was phenomenal, which is why Green ran for 48 yards and Henry ran for 53.  That type of performance is not the norm.

We have a solid and deep class, but it's not surprising to have 0 in the top 50.

Shane has a lively arm and Dymonte is athletic and Kugler is technically sound, but our class lacks the "physical freaks" usually in the top 50. Green has the size and speed to be a freak.

With a smaller class and clear holes for playmakers, UM hopefully lands 3+ freaks for 2014.

as odd as that sounds. Given that probably 25-50%(?) of the stadium will know that Shane Morris is the 5* QB, they would be clamoring for him to beat DG from day 1 and when he has his first 2 INT game the people would chant "BUST! BUST!"

Dropping to #81 should maybe temper your average mgoreader's expectations and let Shane be Shane a bit more. Maybe I'm crazy, but I'm just remembering when everyone chanted for Mallett in the '07 Oregon game

This class is not great but is pretty solid.  I believe it should finish around the 7-10 range on rivals.  Next class, I want to see some playmakers because we are in desperate need of them.
