Rumor: Ohio losing an OL
January 19th, 2013 at 12:53 PM ^
He didn't pass tryouts. This is not good. See Saban and Miles.
January 19th, 2013 at 12:57 PM ^
fine by me. miller won't be lasting very long from the onslaught of our defensive line anyway. thinking about pip, poggi, charlton, hurst and co. all on the same line makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
January 19th, 2013 at 6:29 PM ^
don't forgt about wormley, he's the one im most excited about
January 19th, 2013 at 10:16 PM ^
You're right about that. People have forgotten about him. He will have his time.
January 19th, 2013 at 12:58 PM ^
But transfers are a common issue for all teams between seasons. Hopefully, Michigan won't suffer any such losses.
January 19th, 2013 at 12:58 PM ^
Likely Joey O'Connor.
January 19th, 2013 at 1:07 PM ^
Yea I wasn't going to name names but...yea
January 19th, 2013 at 4:07 PM ^
Magnus got me blacklisted at Hop Sings.
January 19th, 2013 at 12:59 PM ^
I think he needs fast and lean OL to run his system, not unlike RR's scheme. I would imagine that this alleged transfer is most likely a behemoth mauler.
January 19th, 2013 at 1:08 PM ^
I'm not saying you're wrong because I don't know what kind of OL Urban prefers for his system but from his past two classes and his one 2014 OL commit they are all 300+ lbs save for Evan Lisle, Jacoby Boren (who will probably never see the field), and the aforementioned O'Connor. He hasn't brought near the numbers or quality of our OL in the past few classes but the ones they have snagged have been pretty damn big. Regardless, Poggi, Pee Wee, Taco, Hurst, Henry, Mario, Godin, Strobel. Wormley, and our gaggle of big and speedy LB'ers should have their way with them. I can't wait to see the battles between these teams in the years to come.
January 19th, 2013 at 2:29 PM ^
Not sure why you think Boren won't see the field, especially given that he was on the 2-deep at center as a freshman.
January 19th, 2013 at 8:31 PM ^
I was kinda giving you guys the benefit of the doubt because from everything I've seen about him, he's not very good. I guess I just assumed there had to be somebody better than him, glad to hear that there isn't.
January 19th, 2013 at 2:50 PM ^
But I think most osu fans would like two more lineman in this class. I really like UM's oline class and I really like our dline class. Should be some nice battles in the future. Sore subject but Jacoby will be our starting center next year (2014). All reports are that he is physical, nasty, and performing well. Sorry about grammar, typing on ski lift.
January 19th, 2013 at 5:00 PM ^
Bastards are there??
January 19th, 2013 at 6:01 PM ^
you are one dedicated Michigan fan
January 19th, 2013 at 6:55 PM ^
only osu alum that i knew well was one of my investigators years back and a very good guy. now you who seem like a regular guy too. cut that out....
January 19th, 2013 at 1:25 PM ^
Meyer's offensive line at Florida was MUCH different than what we saw from Rodriguez at Michigan/WVU. Meyer likes bigger guys. He also tends to run more traditional blocking schemes than Rodriguez does, instead of running mostly inside/outside zone.
January 19th, 2013 at 1:05 PM ^
This must be who they're talking about
http://ohiostate.scout.com/a.z?s=145&p=8&c=1&nid=5474611
They need a Michigan like haul of Olineman for 2014 or they're depth will be non-existant.
January 19th, 2013 at 1:14 PM ^
Yea he was their best guy according to Rivals ranked something like 104 nationally. There has been talk of moving one of their DTs (Price) to OL
January 19th, 2013 at 2:00 PM ^
After what David Dawson did to Billy Price last summer he is likely thankful.
January 19th, 2013 at 1:00 PM ^
Why is it not looking likely for them to bring in a lot of talent in 2014?
January 19th, 2013 at 1:12 PM ^
Well as of now they have 16 offers out with 4 commits: 3 elsewhere and 1 to Ohio. So if they continue that trend then they will bring in 4 guys but their other offers are to top tier guys like Prince, Cole, Smith, Brown etc. Basically they have a lot of competition remaining to fill up their class with Bama, ND, Us and other SEC/Southern schools
January 19th, 2013 at 1:35 PM ^
it's way, way too early for these kinds of comments to make sense.
based on our 2014 defensive line haul so far, this logic would project us to get zero commitments. same with our defensive back haul, quarterback haul, wide receiver haul, and on and on.
i expect osu to get some good 2014 o-linemen.
January 19th, 2013 at 1:45 PM ^
OL Damian Prince -
OL Kc McDermott - Miami lean
OL Braden Smith - Probably stays in Texas/Oklahoma/Kansas area
OL Mason Cole - ND or Michigan
OL Marcelys Jones - Ohio
OL Orlando Brown - Ohio has a decent shot
OL Natrell Curtis - Likely to stay West or Nebraska
OL Donell Stanley - Ohio not in top 4
OL Alex Bars - Probably Michigan
OL Sam Mustipher -
OL Andy Bauer - SEC probably
OL Jamarco Jones - Ohio has a decent shot
OL Quenton Nelson -
OL Roderick Johnson -
OL Denzel Ward - Michigan
OL Demetrius Knox - Texas
OL Jimmy Byrne - ND
January 19th, 2013 at 1:48 PM ^
here are our 2014 quarterback offers:
that doesn't mean that there aren't good quarterbacks out there or we won't get any of them. it's early.
January 19th, 2013 at 1:57 PM ^
That's impeccable reasoning I mean we have no chances at any qbs right? Who did Cornwell say would be in his top group if an offer came? Oh that's right Michigan. That is the worst comparison you could possibly make. Borges is out evaluating the top qbs ob the country and waiting to give an offer when he feels right. Ohio has sent offers to the top Olinemen in the country and have been rebuked thus far.
January 19th, 2013 at 2:14 PM ^
okay, i think i'll give up after this, but here's my last shot. here are just a few reasons why, more than a year before signing day, it's way too early to start the "OSU won't get good 2014 o-linemen" stuff:
(1) they already have a very good OL commitment, and you, yourself, say that they are in the mix for others.
(2) the state of ohio has some excellent 2014 OL prospects who OSU hasn't offered yet. guys like nathaniel devers, kyle trout, and nick richardson all seem like they'd be good gets for anyone. if OSU offers now, the kids might commit right away. it sometimes makes sense to offer your long shots first and then come back for the low-hanging fruit, if necessary, later.
(3) these kids still have a lot of high school football to play. we don't even really know who's good yet.
(4) offensive linemen are among the hardest prospects to project, so it's one position where good scouting and development can get you through not landing a bunch of superstar recruits.
(5) OSU will be recruiting offensive linemen with a very attractive looking depth chart. meyer and his staff are obviously good recruiters. i know that they haven't been killing it with offensive line recruiting so far, but small sample sizes are small.
i could go on, but if that's necessary, it wouldn't do me any good anyway.

I declare that the winner of this debte is: uh...Turd.
January 19th, 2013 at 2:48 PM ^
I admire your effort turd.

That website hurt my eyes.
January 19th, 2013 at 1:08 PM ^
And hurt my soul as well
January 19th, 2013 at 1:07 PM ^
to Michigan. That is why the coaches told Hunt and Skipper they were done?
/baseless speculation. Wouldn't mind another OL if we can pick up D. Green and maybe another playmaker (WR?).
January 19th, 2013 at 1:07 PM ^
I still don't get how OSU has so much room for scholarships this year...I kept on hearing that it would be a small class by normal standards and now I see they have 22 commits with more possibly to come? SEC, meet B1G.
January 19th, 2013 at 1:10 PM ^
I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure they had a good amount of transfers and/or players "leave the team" once Urban took over.
January 19th, 2013 at 1:27 PM ^
Odd thing to say considering Michigan might take 28 this year.
January 19th, 2013 at 1:39 PM ^
not that odd considering Michigan doesn't have a scholarship reduction like some programs do.
January 19th, 2013 at 2:26 PM ^
A reduction of 3. So if 28 is ok without reductions, what's wrong with 25... or 22.
January 19th, 2013 at 1:13 PM ^
They're in decent shape to pick up Cameron Hunt or Dan Skipper. Maybe an OL defection allows them to pick up both. Urban seems to be doing pretty well recruiting, so I doubt this loss will hurt them too much.
If it is O'Connor, was he expected to be on the two deep next year?
January 19th, 2013 at 1:29 PM ^
I don't think so. I believe the only offensive lineman they're losing to graduation is Reid Fragel, and Fragel was a tackle. O'Connor is more of a guard. He wasn't on the two-deep in 2012, so I wouldn't expect him to be now...but that's just a guess based on logic, not inside info.
January 19th, 2013 at 1:29 PM ^
has to be because of a lack of family values in C'Bus, amiright?
January 19th, 2013 at 2:49 PM ^
That's pretty good.
January 19th, 2013 at 1:36 PM ^
Just doing a quick search it looks like they'll have 4 seniors starting next year and one junior, but the depth behind them will be young. They'll have 1 other junior backup and 4 rs freshmen backups if it's OConner who's leaving. As of now that would mean for 2014 they'd have 2 senior OL and 3 RS sophomores, with 1 RS sophomore backup, and 2 RS freshmen backups, plus whoever they take in the 2014 class.

1994 called and wanted their website technology back.
January 19th, 2013 at 1:43 PM ^
Kordell Stewart is gonna give us trouble this season.
January 19th, 2013 at 1:57 PM ^
Naw he won't. The defense is good enough. He'd need some miracle pulled out his ass to give us trouble this year.
January 19th, 2013 at 2:03 PM ^
They don't know about this.
January 19th, 2013 at 2:10 PM ^
To forget it.

Every time I click on a link to another school's fansite I thank God for MGoBlog. Their forums always look like they're living in 1996. I realize that this is the most trafficked fansite (think I heard that once), but geez we're way ahead of the game.
