Spring Game set for April 13th
January 19th, 2013 at 10:24 AM ^
Are you kiddin' me? I was just calling people at Mott like 5 minutes ago asking this same question and they said it wasn't released yet.
Errrbody better plan on attending because we're planning to have an event this year with it.

I don't see a post or release on MGoBlue.com. I don't really go to AA.com's site. Just get a headline email that's usually day old headlines. Wonder if they released this information before they were supposed to. But then they'd have had a lot of time to pull it down if that was the case.

It made the rounds yesterday on Twitter. It appears the news originated at the MHSFCA coaching clinic:
Michigan spring game April 13 according to Michigan info sheet here at MHSFCA

do some type of tailgate/ BBQ competition/ wacky wild stuff fun day type deal?
January 19th, 2013 at 6:45 PM ^
Seriously, I'd be more than glad to make a donation of any sort to a "Food and Beer" fund. Because I think a massive BYOB get together is just a headache waiting to happen. But I could be beveled for something centrally planned.

this needs to be kept on the front page somewhere, even if it's just the date somewhere to avoid the hundreds of threads between now and April asking if anyone knows when the game is.

Pin that one at the top.

I wonder...will we have enough depth for a two-team format? Third time's a charm.
January 19th, 2013 at 10:49 AM ^
the spring game. I wait months to see a scrimmage I am consistently underwhelmed with, but at least it's football!
January 19th, 2013 at 10:50 AM ^
I love having it to look forward to. Hopefully it's a nice day this year.
January 19th, 2013 at 12:50 PM ^
I'm really looking forward to this year's game. Seeing how the new receivers, offensive line, and d-line will particularly be interesting. Also I want to see how much DG improves. Should be great.

It's Michigan football, and it's spring! Which means winter is over with! Oh and it's Michigan football!

However, I don't expect to see Fitz back at 100% even by the fall. That was a horrible injury. I feel bad for the kid. Others will pass him on the depth chart.

for the game/scrimmage this year, I hope it's a game though. 3rd season for the staff, getting their imprint on the the program, a better indicator of what the future will look like.
I'm excited to see the guys who RS'd, like Chesson, Drake Johnson and the O-Linemen, etc., as well as freshmen who played sparingly last year like Darboh.

I coach HS baseball and only have 2 Saturday's with games this year, and of course one is scheduled for the 13th...kick in the scrote
January 19th, 2013 at 11:19 AM ^
Who is QB for the other team? Is Bellamy recovered from his "condition"? Didnt Jack Kennedy graduate?
(And by "condition" I dont mean "lacks talent").
January 19th, 2013 at 12:35 PM ^
Although, I fully expect Bellomy to lose that spot mid way through the year.
January 19th, 2013 at 11:39 AM ^
A kids day in the spring or is that somewhere around fall camp. My son will be 4 in March and I would like to give him his first trip to the Big House....I too coach baseball and probably have a game on the 13th, hoping kids day or something similar is in the fall.

spring games and despite my strong desire to be entertained, I have not been entertained. A friend of mine were discussing and it just seems like they don't really try and make it fun for the people that attend. I know that may not be the primary reason for the spring game, but it would have been cool to see something like a punting competition, or "long ball" - which QB could throw the farthest.
I realize these requests might be a bit juvenile/sophomoric, but it's just hard to get excited about the spring game when they run the ball up the middle 50 times in a row or just run short 5 yard pass plays every time.
January 19th, 2013 at 12:13 PM ^
Just make a day out of it in A2. If you just go there for the game then leave, yeah it won't be very fun. Spend the day down there. A2 is a great city.
January 19th, 2013 at 12:16 PM ^
It'll be interesting to see how the passing game looks during the spring game, especially if Darboh and Chesson can stretch the field some.
January 19th, 2013 at 12:29 PM ^
they should just stop the spring game until they are for sure doing a game not just practice. its a waste of a lot of peoples time the last few years, and frankly its sad compared to Ohio's spring game.
January 19th, 2013 at 12:55 PM ^
It builds interest by the fans and enables us to see what some of the new players look like in action. Plus, it's a good excuse to get down to the Big House. Apparently, there are at least 20,000+ people each year who don't think it's a waste of time. If you don't like it, don't go.
January 19th, 2013 at 3:01 PM ^
I drive 5 hours up for the spring game every year and spend the whole day up there . It's great to be in the Big House and to get excited about the team. It is also nice to be surrounded by fellow Michigan fans. I spend the rest of the year surrounded by UK and SEC fans. I also use the less crowded day to stock up on gear. And now we get to watch the Lacrosse game afterwards. I do hope it becomes an actual game this year or next.
January 19th, 2013 at 12:36 PM ^
Big day.
Michigan hosts ohio in lacrosse after the Spring Game in Battle at The Big House II like last season. And then baseball will host penn state over at Fisher.
Plenty of things to do that day. It's a 3 jersey changer for me.
January 19th, 2013 at 12:51 PM ^
I think lack of depth on the O and D-lines, were the biggest obstacles to doing an actual game, so hopefully this year we'll see more of a traditional game.
January 19th, 2013 at 1:04 PM ^
I think there is an element of intrigue to this year's spring game, even if just to get a glimpse of what the post-Denard offense will look like, at least in my case. Granted, it might not be the most informative event in this regard, but hopefully we see enough to get an idea what some of the depth chart battles will be. I am curious as usual, and I will definitely mark down the date.
Thanks for the information, incidentally - it's still amusing that no announcement yet exists on the official website and this news broke elsewhere.

What's Borges gonna do on 3rd and short without Vincent smith?????
:)
January 19th, 2013 at 2:15 PM ^
to have the game on my b-day. I'll bet they will make sure that Michigan wins too.
January 19th, 2013 at 3:07 PM ^
Last year, besides the horrible weather that I can't blame on Brandon or anyone that has to do with UM athletics, Denard ran one series and then sat the rest of the 1 hr scrimmage. We got to sit in horrible weather and watch Devin and Bellomy miss 5 yard passes over and over for exactly 1 hr and then were told to go home or to the lacrosse game...
and I got a ticket for parking...even though there was no sign where I parked prohibiting parking...
Oh yeah and the items that you received for donations to Mott were pretty lame unless you donated $500
Like was said, It would be nice if someone actually made an effort to make it fun
That being said, I and my group of friends will probably still go, get there at 7am, tailgate in sleet/snow/rain and 30 degrees with 50 mph winds and then head into the stadium and be irritated at the level of actual football that we get to see.
